Elena, now, agreed with her mother's words completely. In fact, she regretted that she hadn't listened to her mother's advice in her previous life.
She just had one friend in her life who was Vanessa Quinn. She felt that she didn't need more friends and Vanessa was enough for her. This was because she felt that Vanessa was a very wise person which made her follow Vanessa everywhere.
Back then, it was also because Vanessa told her that she should not socialize with people whose status was lower than her because it would ruin her family's reputation. And because Elena trusted Vanessa, she agreed to whatever Vanessa said. This made everyone think that the heiress of the Ashford family was arrogant and self-centered.
Moreover, the fact that she was so rich made people hate her more. Some people were jealous of her while others despised her for being arrogant. This was the reason why Elena had no friends other than Vanessa in her previous life.
However, Elena today had already seen the true colors of her "best friend" and would not be manipulated by her.
"Miss Elena, you have a visitor." As Elena's mind was occupied by these thoughts, a maid came to her and announced.
"Who is it?" Elena asked calmly. Although she was irritated by this visitor, her bearing didn't allow her to show her feelings on her face.
"It's Miss Vanessa," said the maid.

Elena thought that it was a pity that Vanessa was here. She didn't want to see her on the first day of her rebirth but she had no other choice. Elena didn't want Vanessa to suspect her as of now.
So, Elena stood up and walked to the living room. Vanessa was there. Elena looked at her face which was delicately shaped, with gentle curves and smooth skin that gave her an air of innocence. This look of hers didn't allow anyone to see her in bad light, but Elena knew what the reality was.
Elena couldn't forget Vanessa's face on her last day in her previous life and her viciousness made Elena grit her teeth in hatred. However, she couldn't reveal her plans now. So, Elena took a deep breath and a smile appeared on her face.
"My dearest Vanessa, how are you?" Elena smiled as always. However, even though there was nothing different about Elena's behavior, Vanessa felt that something was off. But she couldn't pinpoint what was off.
"Elena, I'm fine," Vanessa came forward and hugged Elena. The latter felt disgusted by Vanessa's touch but she still tried her best to suppress the urge to push her.
Vanessa released Elena and sat down on the couch with her.
"Elena, would you like to hang out this Tuesday?" Vanessa asked with anticipation.
Elena shook her head with a smile, "Sorry Vanessa, but it's my father's birthday on Tuesday. We've arranged a party as always and I need to be present."
"Oh, is that so?" Vanessa pretended to be disappointed. "I guess we can't hang out then!"
Elena's heart was cold. Vanessa acted so well that if she wasn't reborn, she would surely be deceived by her. But now, Elena knew why Vanessa was here. She just wanted Elena to invite her to the party.
The same thing had happened in her previous life and Elena had invited Vanessa to the party genuinely. She didn't think that since she and Vanessa were old friends and the Ashford family threw a party every year on the birthdays of the family members, considering how smart Vanessa was, she would definitely remember the birthdays. This was just an act of hers to get invited to the Ashford family's party and to get a chance to associate with the wealthy people.
Elena knew everything and decided to play along with Vanessa. "Vanessa, why don't you come too? This way I can attend the party and we can hangout too."
Elena's invitation made Vanessa's face lit up. But Vanessa pretended to hesitate, "Elena, that's not good, right? It's your family's party. How can an ordinary person like me attend the party?"
Elena was disgusted by Vanessa's act but she didn't show it on her face. Instead, she held Vanessa's hand and said, "Vanessa, what are you talking about? You're my best friend. I can invite my best friend to my family's party. Who dares to question me? And who dares to look down on me?"
Vanessa smiled on hearing Elena's words, 'Elena, oh Elena! You're so stupid! Now that you've invited me, I'll also give you a nice return gift at the party!'
"Elena, you're so good to me," Vanessa hugged Elena tightly while a smirk appeared on her delicate face.
