BET ON MY HEART

A bright morning that has not posed any challenge for me yet. I just know it's waiting for a time when I least expect it. Administrations in our school is on going. I sit in my class scribbling on my drawing book until I get lost in the fine lines and delve into my thoughts. I can't stop missing them yet they are the once who distance themselves. My old classmates will forever be out of sight but never out of mind. A loud bell alarm rings in the hallway and I snap out of my thought and into a cruel reality that I will never see them. An alarm that meant freedom for many just meant more time to trap my self into work. As I am just about to open my book my friend Lily busts through the door and rushes to where I am sat."Omg I just saw a cute boy passing in the halls" she said barely catching her breath. "Okay relax first then tell me" I said in a soft voice while chuckling. " Okay I am calm, but I saw two friends in the hall way and I must say they have a striking presence, I see them becoming this years heartthrobs." She says while smiling at Me. I tell her I am not interested to meet them. I know very well were this topic is headed to so I try to avoid it, Until she mentions that one of the boys came from a school that I was very well acquainted with. I had promised my self to leave all the memories behind but this new discovery might just be a turning point. Lily tells me that I must know him since we were in the same school together. I, not wanting to explain that we were probably in different branches cause I have never heard of him before, just said yes. But that was the beginning of something more bigger than it seemed. She told me to tell her all about the guy but fan fact is that I barely knew him. Explaining everything to her would just lead to more questions that I was too busy to answer so I ran along with the play. " He is kind, sporty, smart and cool guy" I said with a smile as fake as a Barbie doll's. Lily will always be Lily so she believed me and told me to introduce her to him so that she could get close to his friend who was the real hype in the school. I told her I was busy and that I will introduce her once they had settled in our school but really I just needed time to actually know him cause yeah I completely made up a story about a stranger I barely knew. As the day went by the story of the two friends became even more popular among people. My other friend Briana came to me the following day. She told me that the new guys are just like any other students and people should stop hyping them up. Me clearly knowing Briana was actually shocked because she is the one who was hyping up Lily until she went to their class." I actually thought of the same thing too" I said in a seemingly convincing voice. I asked her why the sudden change of heart. That is when she dropped a bombshell on me. One of the guys was actually her cousin. After that shocking discovery I knew that Lily probably knew the truth by now but surprisingly even Briana didn't know that I didn't know him. She asked me if I we were in the same class before and I told her probably but I can't remember. We chatted for a while with her then she left but I knew that I had to find out more about this guy. Then it just hit me that I barely knew his name. I asked a group of girls who were chatting next to me but in an indirect way. I told them if they knew all the new admissions and of course they started of with the two heartthrobs. They told me that the people being admited to class 9A were two friends known as Kareem and Liam. So I instantly knew his name because he was Christian which meant his name was Liam. Now after school, during PE, Lunch break and Leisure I had one agenda and I named it "Operation Liam". One day I was in the cafeteria and I almost got to him but I had that he had left for football practice with his friends and I had just missed him by a few minutes. So I headed to the football field and I also missed him cause he had been called by the principal to fill in a few paperwork. I was going to class when bumped into someone and dropped all his books. I said sorry but he didn't and he just gave me death glares. I told him to come back because I was not the only one who wasn't paying attention to where I was going. He just looked at me then left. There were some girls sat at the front desk and they told me that His name was Kareem. I couldn't believe it I was so close yet too far from actually knowing who Liam was. Kareem was good looking I ain't gonna lie but my first impression of him was that he is a very arrogant person. Feeling defeated in my search I waited for the lesson to end then went behind the hall for some alone and quiet thinking time. When I got there I started to think about all the memories I had with past friends and all of the .moments we shared as a class. Suddenly a football ball hit me smack on my head and brought me back to reality. It was some boys who were playing football and one of them apologized and took the ball. I was watching them play when Briana joined me. "Look at him acting all perfect even though he is a big jerk" Briana said angrily while looking at a boy playing football. I asked her who she was talking about then she pointed out to a boy and said "Liam who else would I be talking about." At that time I was so overjoyed because my long search had finally come to an end. Briana seemed to notice my joy so she asked me why I was so happy and I answered nothing. I could tell that she had made up her own conclusionNow that I finally knew who he was. After football practice I went to him and his arrogant friend Kareem. I started the conversation by getting to know them more but I could tell that Briana wanted to leave already so I told her to please stay a little longer for my sake. She agreed and we chatted mostly with Liam. Kareem was so mean that it immediately started a roasting battle between us. The roast battle went a bit too far that even the cousins had to intervene. I think it was safe to say I hated Kareem already. Unfortunately my main mission out of all this was to introduce Lily to Kareem but I had seen no hope in that already. So now Lily had to work on her own. As days progressed we had grown closer as friends well except Kareem and I. We used to go home with each other. Wait up on each other and did more things together. Kareem and Lily actually became really good friends but it was evident that Lily had a thing for him. One day I found Kareem all alone and I couldn't care least about him. I wanted to leave him there alone but my caring heart could never allow me to. So I found my self going to ask what's wrong. He was hesitant at first and I was about to angrily storm out of there but he finally told me what was up. He said that he missed his old school and classmates every single day but ever since the admission, everyone seems more distant nowadays. That really got to me and for once we could both agree on the same thing. I told him my story and we both agreed to make life in this school a good environment for the both of us. Also it was okay for us to still miss our old classmates but we had to move on. From that day Kareem and I became good friends and the four of us who included Lily, Kareem, Liam and I became inseparables. You may ask were was Briana? Yeah she still despises her cousin and try to convince us otherwise. As always with tight friendships came ships. People shipped Kareem and Lily, and Liam and me. Unfortunately I never really liked Liam to begin with so that didn't affect me that much but Lily was all in it. The only people who knew about Lily's crush on Kareem were Me and Briana. So we emphasised the ship even more. But our bond was truly unbreakable. One day news arrived that we were going to go for a 3 days trip to a resort. We all agreed to go. The day of the trip was so close and We were all excited at least Liam and I were. Kareem and Lily had bad news. Kareem had to attend her cousins wedding on that day and Lily had to visit her grandma who was sick. Which meant that only Liam and I were going alone. This was devastating indeed. I but it was okay cause we promised to bring pictures. So the day of the trip was finally here. We were all packed and ready to go. I sat with Liam in the bus. That day Liam was kind of strange. He kept on asking questions that were a bit too weird for me. He asked if I found him attractive and I just laughed it off as one his jokes. A few minutes later he asked me what if I told you I liked you. I still laughed it off as a prank and he did too. After that we chatted and caught up in old memories of our past classmates and took a lot of pictures. At night we were all in our hotel rooms. Liam called our room and my roommate picked up the call. Liam told her to sleep early thinking it was me then ended the call. When I came back my roommate had a grin on her face and told me what Liam said and I was like okay but she thought I was dating Liam and for some reason she looked am upset. Those three days went so fast. I never got to speak to Liam because he was with some friends. The last day as we were in the bus I could tell that Liam didn't want to sit with me but he still did. As we were going back Liam still asked the same question again from last time but this time he was serious. I just told him sorry I don't know but once we go back to school I will tell you. That day was a rollercoasterSo when we went back to school I told all my friends about it. That included Briana and Lily. At first they were all okay with it. I still never gave Liam my answer cause I never really thought of ever liking him. So I just kept quiet but Liam started acting weird. He didn't talk to us as usual, he stopped walking with us and also just kept to himself most of the times. He went to parties that weren't even his vibes. Kareem started distancing himself from him and so did we because he refused to listen to us. During that time some girls came to me and we would chat with them. I came to find out that Liam wasn't really who he seems to be. He dated a lot of girls and dumped them for no reason at all. He was basically a player and a cheat. I started to hate him more after I found out that the same time he asked me out was around the same time he was with my roommate and some other girls he hanged out with. I was utterly shocked by this. I went to confront him and he admitted everything. He said he never really liked me, that doesn't even concern me cause I also never did. But he added that I was a bet he made with Kareem she we used to be enemies. I felt crushed by his words. That was so mean of him and Kareem to make a bet on someone as if they were an object. I cut all ties with Liam from that day. I went and confronted Kareem and he said that he tried to talk him out of it bit he refused cause money was on the line. Kareem apologized sincerely saying he was dumb to have done so. I forgave him but I was too disgusted to continue our friendship. Last person I had to confront was Briana because she knew everything and I could tell. She admitted that she knew that her cousin was a player and a cheat but didn't know about the bet. I asked her why she agreed when I told her what he had said. She said that she thought he had changed for the best after meeting us but that was not the case. I felt betrayed by everyone. I thought I knew them better but I guess I was wrong. After all that I don't think I can trust so easily again. He bet on my heart
