Chapter 28 - The Thorns Return

Setting: House Norwyn – Secret Council Chamber, The Forbidden Crypt, Moonlit Courtyard

Theme: Betrayal, forgotten bloodlines, temptation vs. loyalty, rise of the Crimson heir

---

[Scene 1 – The Escape Trail]

Rain slammed the ancient rooftops of House Norwyn. Lightning illuminated the bloodstained walls as Kaelrin, soaked and furious, strode through the south wing where Thorne had escaped.

> "No magic was used," Darien muttered. "He had help. Someone who knew every ward, every blind spot."

Kaelrin's voice was like steel cracking:

> "Which means… a traitor in my inner circle."

They reached the outer tower. One last set of boot prints faded into the rain.

A single feather remained — crimson and black.

Kaelrin clutched it tightly. "He's going to the Crypt."

---

[Scene 2 – Lyra's Choice]

In her private chamber, Lyra stood before two things:

Her father's journal

A small wooden box, untouched for years

Inside the box — a blood-sealed crest of the Crimson Pact. Her family's hidden legacy.

> "I'm not one of them," she whispered.

But blood remembers. And the Pact had always planned to return.

Suddenly, the mirror in front of her shimmered. An old voice echoed from within — her mother's voice.

> "The Pact was born of survival, not cruelty. But monsters wore our mask."

> "And now the child of thorns must decide: burn the garden… or rule it."

---

[Scene 3 – The Secret Council of Norwyn]

Meanwhile, Kaelrin descended into the ancient council vaults beneath Norwyn, where seven elders in masked robes sat waiting.

> "You summoned us without permission," one hissed.

> "There was a breach," Kaelrin snapped. "Thorne escaped. Vael is dead. And the Crimson Pact was here."

> "Then it has begun," said the oldest among them.

Kaelrin's eyes narrowed.

> "You knew?"

The council exchanged glances.

> "We feared. We buried truths to protect the realm. But the heir walks among us again."

> "Who?" Kaelrin demanded.

> "Your future queen... or your executioner."

---

[Scene 4 – The Crypt of Thorns]

In the forest beyond Norwyn, Thorne entered a hidden cavern, lit only by eerie red flame.

Ancient stone doors parted for his blood — a forgotten heirloom hung around his neck.

Inside, candles formed a circle of symbols — and in the center stood a woman in robes of deep scarlet.

> "You came too soon," she whispered.

> "I had no choice," Thorne replied. "The Duke suspects. Lyra's waking up."

> "Then we must awaken the others."

From beneath the stone floor, coffins began to stir.

The Crimson Pact... was rising.

---

[Scene 5 – Moonlight Confrontation]

Back in the moonlit courtyard, Lyra stood waiting. She had summoned Kaelrin herself.

He arrived, blood still on his gloves.

> Lyra: "You know what I am now."

> Kaelrin: "No. I know what you were born into. Not what you've chosen."

> Lyra (quietly): "I don't know what I'll choose."

He stepped closer.

> Kaelrin: "Then let me give you a reason to choose me."

He kissed her.

Not gentle. Not rushed.

A promise. A claim. A plea.

> "If you fall into darkness, I'll follow you," he whispered. "But don't make me your enemy."

Lyra's eyes shimmered.

> "Then help me burn the Pact down. Even if my blood fuels the fire."

---

[Scene 6 – Endgame Approaches]

From the highest tower, Darien watched the clouds spiral unnaturally above the forest.

From deep within the Crypt, the Pact's leader whispered her prophecy:

> "By the 40th day of this storm, either the Pact shall rule... or the crown shall bleed."

And inside Lyra's room, the final letter appeared on her window:

> "One crown. Two heirs. No mercy."
