Chapter 33 - Crimson Oath

Setting: Velaris – Throne Hall of House Norwyn, Training Grounds, and Shadow Crypts

Theme: Betrayals bloom, tempers ignite, and destinies unravel.

---

[Scene 1 – The Clash of Princes]

The morning after the storm tasted of steel. Fog clung to the castle grounds like a warning.

Kaelrin stood at the center of the Velaris training yard, stripped of all titles, just a man with a sword.

Across from him stood Thorne, bare-chested, rage burning in his eyes.

The duel had not been sanctioned. It was born of unspoken grief, fury, and something far more dangerous — jealousy.

Lyra stood at the edge of the ring. Silent. Torn.

> "This won't end the way you want," Thorne growled.

Kaelrin lifted his blade.

> "No. It ends the way it must."

They charged.

Steel met steel.

Not a spar — a war.

Thorne struck with abandon, driven by heartbreak. Kaelrin countered with cold fury.

> "You lied to all of us," Kaelrin spat between strikes.

> "And you hide behind your honor like armor," Thorne roared back.

A blow landed. Blood spilled.

And Lyra screamed, "Stop!" — but neither heard her.

Only when Kaelrin's blade hovered inches from Thorne's throat did the world breathe again.

> "Do it," Thorne panted. "Prove you're no different."

Kaelrin hesitated.

Then dropped his sword.

> "You're not worth the ruin," he whispered.

[Scene 2 – The Queen's Gambit]

Far beneath House Norwyn, in the Shadow Crypts, Lady Isolde — a secret council member of Velaris — kneeled before an enchanted mirror.

Selaria's face appeared.

> "Is the seed planted?" Selaria's voice echoed.

> "Yes," Isolde replied. "They believe Thorne is the storm. They've missed the earthquake beneath them."

Selaria smiled.

> "Good. Begin Phase II."

[Scene 3 – Lyra's Choice]

In the Velvet Council Room, Lyra was summoned by the High Table.

Seven Lords. One Duchess. And a sea of accusations.

> "Lady Lyra," boomed Duke Renneth, "you consorted with a bloodline of traitors. You danced with the Crimson Pact."

> "I danced with a man," she replied coldly. "Not a war."

> "The court sees no difference anymore."

She stood, spine straight.

> "Then the court is blind."

Gasps echoed.

Kaelrin rose from his seat.

> "She speaks with more honor than most of you."

But Lyra turned, eyes locked on the council.

> "If you strip me of title — I'll survive. But if you strip truth from justice, you doom us all."

In the silence that followed, the council hesitated.

But the damage was done.

She was suspended from council duties. Her family name — marked for review.

[Scene 4 – Crimson Emissary]

That night, as snow fell over the Velaris main gate, a figure approached on a crimson horse. Cloaked in silk and shadow.

The guards readied their blades — but froze when she lifted her veil.

> "I come under parley," said the emissary. "By order of Queen Selaria of the Crimson Pact."

She carried a scroll.

A seal of ash and blood.

And an offer:

> "Surrender the heir. Surrender the Duke. And we spare your people."

> "Or?"

> "Or we bring back the old gods — and bury your thrones beneath their feet."

---

[Scene 5 – After the Fire]

Thorne lay alone in the ruins of the garden pavilion.

A letter crumpled in his hand. Written by Lyra.

> "I cannot love a man at war with himself."

He didn't cry. He didn't rage.

He just lit the letter — watched it burn to ash.

And then… he left the castle.

No horse. No words.

Just a blade, a cloak, and the whisper of vengeance.
