Chapter 1 - The Body That Wasn’t Mine

Cold, it's cold, why is it cold? Am I on solid ground?

Are my eyes closed? Why is it so dark? Am I dead?

Was it because I had been too careless with working? I knew it, that job wasn't worth it. What would a couple of extra bills even get me?

A dark and cold grave apparently.

As time went on, the young Nameless criticized his past job, blaming it for his current situation.

Gradually, the nameless began to feel something move inside his body.

The thing was slimey and wet, like a tentacle moving upwards through his body.

The tentacle made its way up towards his heart, wrapping itself around the heart and applying pressure towards his heart before releasing it and repeating.

Dunk! Dunk!

The nameless heart gradually began to beat again, filling his body with warmth once again.

Once his heart rate reached the appropriate levels, the tentacle made its way down his body, and out.

Nameless could feel every bit of movement the tentacle made, it was uncomfortable and painful for him.

Once the tentacle left his body, the boy gradually began to feel his senses coming back to him.

His hearing was soon restored and he could hear the slight movements of the wind.

He could taste again, feeling his mouth and how it tasted.

And finally, the young nameless' vision was restored.

The nameless got up out of his lying position with a gasp and started coughing violently.

He gripped his heart in pain, feeling his heartbeat rise and then return to normal again after a few minutes.

After having finally calmed down, the young nameless looked around himself to get a better idea of where he was.

He found himself to be in a dark and dimly lit alleyway, only lit by an old European style gas lamp.

Catching whiff of blood, he looked down to see a wound on his chest.

The wound was not that deep, and he could see it rapidly heal. After a couple of seconds, all broken or dead tissues were replenished.

Nameless stared wide eyes as he watched the entire process. He felt his heartbeat increase again with unease.

"What the actual–" he stopped mid sentence, not recognizing his own voice.

Nameless was quick to search around for a mirror or any reflective material that he could use to inspect himself.

He found a glass shard in a corner and picked it up from the damp ground and stared at his new self.

A young boy's face reflected of off the glass shard.

The boy had long jet black hair that reached down towards his chin, a striking pair of red eyes and a pale look.

Who… who's this? The young nameless thought to himself, failing to recognize his own appearance.

What, what happened to me? Why did my face change? The young nameless' mind whirled with confusion and fear.

After having spent a couple of minutes in rumination, the young nameless decided to recall his latest memories.

As usual, I went to work. After work, I was worn out and decided to go to bed early.

There seems to be no specific reason as to how I ended up here. Am I dreaming? Nameless pinched himself in the cheek to check.

No, I am not dreaming, so then how did I end up her? Just as Nameless had that thought, he suddenly recalled a memory that was quite hazy.

Oh yeah, I woke up in the middle of the night to take a glass of water, and then? It took a few seconds trying before he finally recalled one special detail

Oh right! I found that necklace on the counter and decided to wear it to 'enhance' my sleep or whatever. I wore that necklace when I slept! Could that have been the reason?

That necklace that I brought for a penny to enhance my sleep? Is that what it meant by "You'll be taken to another world" note on it? I thought it was just exaggerated puffery!

The young nameless couldn't help but sigh in acknowledgment.

So that's the reason, I was taken to another world because of some necklace? Nameless thought in a depressed tone.

Wait, where is that necklace anyway?

The nameless began to pat himself down in search of the necklace.

He quickly found it to be in his left pocket of his worn and torn oversized jeans.

He held the necklace in his right hand and let it dangle in front of him for inspection.

The necklace featured delicate silver wings encircling a vibrant red ruby at its center. The detailed wings cradled the gemstone, making it an elegant piece of jewelry.

The necklace was beautiful, but there was an obvious missing detail.

It does not have that slight red glow anymore. The nameless mused.

He thought of it to have been a battery installed into the necklace, but now Nameless was left to wonder if it was because of its enchanting qualities.

He put the necklace in his right pocket this time as he felt it had no holes and decided to further scrutinize himself.

Looking at the glass shard again, the nameless saw that he was wearing a white t-shirt with a gabbing hole on his chest and a pair of oversized, torn jeans.

I seemed to have inhabited the body of a dead man…child. And this child must've been attacked.

Looking around in the narrow alleyway he found himself in, he concluded that must've been chased.

Or he was homeless he mused.

Wait, I am a he, right? Nameless looked down at his chest and saw no stumbles. But just to make sure, he also checked inside his pants.

Phew The nameless let out a relieved breath.

At least some things hadn't changed.

Checking his surroundings once more, Nameless found a trail of blood leading deeper into the alleyways.

Nameless deduced that this must have been a trail left behind by the old owner of this body.

Wait, could he have been killed by someone? If so, then did the killer already check if the owner of this body was dead or not? Will he be coming here to check if not?

The nameless decided to not follow the trail of blood and went on the opposite way, just to be safe.

After having taken a couple of steps, the nameless found himself at a crossroad.

He didn't think much of it and turned right.

After walking for a while, the nameless finally managed to get out of the alleyway and arrived at the city.

He checked the buildings and was relieved to find out that this world was also in the 21st century.

But there was one odd thing about this world.

There was no one present in this city.

There were many buildings, but none of them had their lights on. All of the curtains were drawn.

The empty streets made the nameless feel increasingly uncomfortable and fearful.

Even the lights on the road Nameless was standing on were not on.

It was nighttime, it was quiet, it was empty. This made it extremely difficult to not become paranoid.

It was not that dark as there were no clouds to cover the bright stars.

While looking at the stars, the nameless noticed something amiss.

Wait, why are there so many stars? There were more stars on the sky then what he remembered.

Perhaps due to their not being as many lights on? The nameless made an uneducated guess.

Suddenly, the nameless grew tense, his facial expression change to that of fear.

His eyes darted around the starry expanse but one thing was missing in this clear night

There's no moon…

No, no, that can't be possible!
