Chapter 162 - Chapter 162: Side Effects

The Other Side

After escaping the building, A Fei ran wildly in a single direction.

"Damn Akatsuki Organization! I'll never forgive you!" he roared, seething with rage.

The thought of being ganged up on by their members made his blood boil.

"Damn it... I'm still not strong enough. If I'd known, I would've spent more money on the Plath version that the boss recommended…"

He glanced down at the jade ring on his finger, his eyes narrowing.

"But it's not too late to buy it now," A Fei muttered.

This jade ring wasn't just for decoration—it was a storage ring he'd purchased from Peter at a steep price. The reason Nagato and the others hadn't found his vault was simple: A Fei had already stashed all his money inside the ring long before they arrived.

Everything he owned was in that storage ring. Over time, his savings had ballooned to tens of billions. If he hadn't spent so much on building his company's headquarters, he'd have had even more.

Suddenly, a sharp, searing pain tore through his body.

A Fei stumbled to a halt, gasping. "Wh-What's happening to me…?"

Then he remembered Peter's warning:

> "A Fei, listen. This gamma ray treatment can temporarily boost your strength, but once it wears off, you'll suffer serious backlash.

I highly recommend the plus version. It comes with a gene enhancer that boosts your physical foundation and cancels out the side effects. With it, you won't just transform—you'll become stronger permanently.

Wipe out the entire ninja world? Totally possible. And it's just 1.5 billion! What are you waiting for?"

Back then, A Fei's blue pill business had just launched. His funds were limited, and although he wanted the plus version, he simply couldn't afford it.

Instead, he settled for a much cheaper alternative—the flashlight version of gamma rays, priced at just 100 million. But it came with heavy side effects.

Originally, he had planned to upgrade once he earned more. But after hiring bodyguards and expanding his operations, he forgot all about it.

He never thought he'd be desperate enough to actually use the flashlight version.

"Oh no… I forgot about the backlash," A Fei groaned, dragging himself toward a nearby tree. He leaned against it, breathing heavily.

"ARGH!!" he screamed in agony. His muscles felt like they were being torn apart, and his bones cracked audibly under the strain.

He didn't know how long the pain lasted—minutes? Hours? Time became meaningless.

When it finally ended, his entire body was drenched in cold sweat. He collapsed at the base of the tree, his breath ragged.

"Hah… It's finally… over…" he whispered weakly.

But his body wasn't done yet.

His eyelids grew heavy, like mountains were pressing down on them. He tried to stay awake, but eventually, he passed out.

As he lost consciousness, his massive, mutated form began to shrink. His green skin faded to pale white, and his muscular frame deflated back to its original size—only thinner, frailer, more hollow than before.

He looked emaciated.

Shortly after A Fei collapsed, Nagato and the others happened to pass by.

Luckily for him, the tree he was slumped against completely blocked their view. They walked right past without ever noticing his presence.

If they had… A Fei might've never woken up again.

---

Time passed…

A Fei's fingers twitched slightly. Then his eyes fluttered open.

It was already nighttime. Everything around him was dark.

"How long… was I out?" he muttered groggily.

He sniffed the air and frowned. There was a strong, acrid smell—like something burning.

"What's on fire?"

He turned his head to locate the source of the smoke, and his expression changed instantly.

In the distance, an entire building was ablaze. The flames reached high into the sky, lighting up the night like a beacon.

"Tsk. That's a massive fire. Whoever owned that place… it's toast," A Fei muttered, clicking his tongue in sympathy.

But something about the building felt... familiar.

He squinted, studying the burning structure more carefully.

"Wait a minute... Why does that building look like—" His eyes widened in horror. "NO WAY!"

He jumped to his feet, all weakness forgotten.

"THAT'S OUR COMPANY!"

A Fei screamed. His legs barely worked, but he ran toward the burning building anyway, stumbling and sobbing.

"MY COMPANY! DAMN YOU, AKATSUKI! WUHUHUHU...!"

His tears flowed freely as he sprinted toward the flames, grief and rage tearing through him.

He had invested tens of billions into building that headquarters—and now it was gone, reduced to ash.

---

After what felt like forever, he finally reached the building.

It was still engulfed in flames, roaring in the night air. He fell to his knees in despair.

Tears streamed down his face, hitting the ground—only to immediately evaporate from the heat.

"This has to be a joke…" A Fei choked. "How could they do this…?!"

He began punching the ground, again and again, even as his fists tore open and bled. He didn't stop.

The Akatsuki had destroyed everything he built.

But… not everything.

Thankfully, he had hidden most of his money in the storage ring. Though his company was destroyed, his wealth remained untouched.

It was a small mercy—a blessing in disguise.

"As long as I still have money… I can rise again."
