Chapter 7 - 7

"Do you think Miss might be tired of us and want to replace us? I don't want to be sold. Servants like us who have been given medicine since childhood would probably end up in small inns for men's entertainment." Attendant Sean grew more afraid as he thought about it and was almost crying.

Attendant Sam was also a bit worried. Actually, following Miss was not bad. Miss was different from other ladies who often hit or scolded their servants.

Their life was almost like living in paradise, just serving Miss well. Young Master Xavier was kind and never bossed them around too much. He steadied his mind and said, "Let's just do our jobs first."

"I don't think Miss wants to sell us. If things get bad, we can ask Young Master Xavier for help. Even if we have to do cleaning, it's better than being sold."

At that moment, a voice called them from inside. They quickly answered and ran in.

Pushing open the door, they saw Yaelle dressed loosely, slowly walking out from the misty room. Her hair hung down her back, the ends still dripping water.

Some drops ran down her neck and soaked into her clothes, looking very lazy and charming. Attendant Sam quickly lowered his eyes to avoid looking at the scene. He took a handkerchief from the screen and helped Yaelle sit by the dressing table.

He carefully wrung out the water drops from her hair. Actually, she had secretly washed her hair once in the space and used a hairdryer to dry it. But if she always washed her hair in the space and never outside, wouldn't others think she never washed it and didn't care about cleanliness?

Plus, her hair never got oily, which was strange. So she planned to wash her hair every two days in the space and once every five or six days outside.

Attendant Sean noticed this too and quickly went inside to pour out the hot water from the bath bucket. He also took out Yaelle's clothes to wash by hand. Their mistress's clothes were always washed by these two.

But recently, Miss had stopped letting them wash her underwear. In fact, these days Yaelle wore a bra and underwear, with a loose stomach band that gave no support or beauty. She still preferred modern clothes but couldn't let them see.

Also, she was not used to others touching her underwear. Every time she changed, she threw the clothes directly into the space to wash and dry secretly at night.

In ancient times, there was little entertainment. People slept early once it got dark, so they woke up early too.

Yaelle woke at seven in the morning. She knew the exact time because she had a clock in her shop. She took the clock out, set it right, and locked it in a drawer to check secretly.

There were still two boxes of Nanfu batteries left in the supermarket, each with 50 cells. One cell could last at least two years, so if the clock didn't break, she would never run out in her life. She couldn't rely on ancient time tools.

After breakfast, the man Michael asked for arrived. He was about 30 years old and called Helper Beau. He came just at the right time because most crops could be planted then.

Yaelle quickly led him to the back garden and told him to clear all the plants and turn the soil. Some servants helped with the cleaning.

With many people, the work went fast. In a day and a half, the land was ready. She arranged it into neat rows as she wanted.

Helper Beau had never seen the things from her space, so she had to guide him. He was honest and didn't ask unnecessary questions, just worked hard. She had to admit the man her brother Richard Xia found was reliable.

There were only five or six potatoes in her space. After cutting them into small pieces, they planted just two or three squares sparsely.

Sweet potatoes need to be planted more. Three jin of watermelon red sweet potatoes, each one buried in the ground, will grow many vines. When the vines grow long, they can be used for cuttings.

There are also two baskets of vines already grown long in the space. These can be cut and planted now.

There are many tomato seedlings too. A few days ago, some tomatoes were forgotten and two rotted. Yaelle threw them into the ground, and a large patch of seedlings grew.

These seedlings are not as good as carefully bred varieties. They do bear fruit, but fewer. Still, any fruit is better than none.

The biggest area is for corn. Two ears of corn have nearly 1,500 seeds. I counted: 16 rows per ear, 46 seeds per row, two ears total 1,472 seeds.

I broke the seeds off to plant. The germination rate is high. Almost all have sprouted. According to the ideal spacing of 3,500 plants per mu, this can plant about half a mu.

Two jin of peanuts were planted on three plots. Two jin of taro was sparsely planted on less than 10 square meters. Other plants like beans, peas, and cucumbers have only a few seedlings.

The bitter melon was only left for seed. The poorest is the Buddha's hand melon, only one seedling. It has a large frame for support.

It was carefully transplanted. Hopefully, it will give a good harvest.

A very large frame was set up for grapes, the Kyoho variety. Yaelle likes them a lot and plans to grow a large area to have grape freedom.

Watermelons need to be started as seedlings first. Luckily, when eating watermelon before, seeds were kept. There are 300 seeds to plant half a mu.

There are also a dozen seedlings already sprouted that can be planted early as early watermelons.

There are seven chili pepper seedlings. These are my life-saving medicine and need a separate plot.

Suddenly, Yaelle remembered the kitchen wall still had over half a jin of dried chilis and more than a jin of dried Sichuan peppercorns.

She learned how to make hot pot base after much practice because she loves eating it. No matter the effort, she had to learn. This skill is very useful; with one base, anything can be cooked in hot pot.

There are several special pots in the kitchen for hot pot. The yuan-yang pot has two types: one is bagua shaped, the other like a donut with a small round pot in the middle.

These dried spices were bought a long time ago and mostly used in the past two to three months. They are old stock, so the seed germination rate is uncertain.

During a noon nap, Yaelle went into the space and carefully cut open the chili to get seeds. She sneezed many times.

The result was promising. Although the seeds are small, there are many, about twenty thousand. Hopefully, they will sprout.

Otherwise, with only seven seedlings, when can hot pot freedom be achieved?

Collecting Sichuan pepper seeds is simpler. Using a sieve, hundreds of seeds were obtained. Even if only ten sprout and grow, I will be satisfied.

In the afternoon, Yaelle gave the chili and pepper seeds to Helper Beau to start seedlings. After finishing this, the backyard farmland was almost fully used.

When these seedlings grow, more land will be needed. There is no room left here to plant them all.

Planting all these crops took four or five days. After arranging Helper Beau to live in the room closest to the field, she carefully explained the care methods.

She told him to patrol every day and report any abnormalities immediately. Then she left the room.
