The sigil pulsed above the river surface like a living glyph: "Waterline contract void if name stolen." I stared through the faint mist, heart hammering. The Weaver's signature burned through the current.
Moon Priest stepped back, voice shaking. "They've embedded a contract echo beneath the water, if river guardians trace names to him, our interim bond dissolves."
Biat grabbed my hand, silent fear in his eyes. "That's next season gone, we lose grip on water rights before spring."
I gulp. "Then we need to purge echo control, I have one chance."
He looked at me. "You mean…"
I nodded. "We replicate true contract into river, then seal it with my blood imprint. Let inkfire test the bond...only true names survive."
Moon Priest whispered a warning. "Only rush ruins slower steps, but the water clock slides... spring audit day nears."
