Chapter 3 - Saving the Holy Maiden

Aglaea quickly put on her clothes and left the Hero's Bath.

Castorice, on the other hand, stayed beside Tribbie, Trianne, and Trinnon, never leaving them for even a moment.

She could do nothing but bring death, so beyond that, she was powerless and could only pray for the three in her heart.

At this moment, Tribbie, Trianne, and Trinnon all shared the same dream.

In their dreams, they saw their homeland, their mother, themselves, and a mysterious young man.

Meanwhile, at the Temple of the Three Fates in Janusopolis, countless people gathered together, waiting for the prophecy ritual.

However, what made this time different from the previous ones was that the ritual would be presided over by Grand Councilor Dannalio.

Lucian stood among the crowd, wearing the same local attire as everyone else.

It was almost laughably easy for him to use the power of Emanator to weave a set of clothes.

"Everyone, please be quiet!"

An old woman, who was none other than Dannalio, stood at the entrance of the temple and called out in a loud voice.

In an instant, everyone fell silent.

"Today, we are here to hold the prophecy ritual, where the holy maiden will listen to the Titans' prophecy and bring lasting peace to Janusopolis!"

"Everyone, please pray for the holy maiden!"

As soon as she finished speaking, the believers pressed their hands together and lowered their heads in silent prayer.

Before long, Lucian heard a string of chattering noises in his ear and could not help but raise his hand to scratch it. He could feel a tingling sensation, as if his earwax was being pushed around.

While all the believers bowed their heads in prayer, only Lucian raised his head, observing his surroundings, searching for the figure of Tribios.

Janusopolis was a city-state built into the mountains, surrounded by towering cliffs, and the place for the so-called ritual happened to be on a cliff.

As Lucian looked up, he saw a group of people standing at the edge of the cliff.

Ten guards held long spears.

Two priests held scriptures.

And a beautiful woman with long red hair.

"Holy Maiden Mortis, please begin the ritual!"

Dannalio shouted toward the red-haired woman, her voice echoing against the surrounding cliffs.

All the believers then raised their heads to gaze at the altar at the edge of the cliff.

'Mortis?'

Upon hearing the name, Lucian was stunned for a moment, then searched his memory for relevant information.

From what he knew from the game before he transmigrated, he recalled that Mortis was Tribios's mother, as well as the previous high priest and the Holy Maiden of Janusopolis.

During a certain ritual, she had been plotted against by the regime's politician, forced off a cliff, and died.

However, that event had happened in the Year 3750 of Amphoreus's Light Calendar.

'At that year, Tribios was still just an eight-year-old child, right?'

Realizing this, Lucian could only take things one step at a time.

Given that the System had not given any specific requirements for completing the script, he could only improvise for now.

In the end, Lucian silently looked up at the red-haired beauty as she ascended the altar at the edge of the cliff, waiting for the right moment.

"Holy Maiden, please begin the ritual as soon as possible."

By the altar, one of the two priests impatiently urged Mortis.

At the same time, the ten guards behind also moved forward, as if threatening her.

Mortis calmly looked at them, then glanced at the believers gathered below the cliff.

She knew there was no way she would leave alive today, because everyone behind her was Dannalio's people.

Knowing that the officials and priests wanted to fully control the power to deliver prophecies, they would definitely never let her live.

And this ritual was the perfect opportunity to make her death seem reasonable and legitimate.

"Tribios..."

Mortis softly whispered her daughter's name.

She was not afraid of death—she only worried for her daughter's safety.

Thankfully, before she left, she had already arranged for her most trusted person, Codex, to take her daughter and escape, hoping it would go smoothly.

Remembering her daughter, Mortis walked up to the altar.

Given that the altar was built at the edge of a cliff, even a small accident could send someone plummeting to their death.

Just as Mortis stood upon the altar, preparing to commune with the Titans, a man's voice suddenly came from behind.

"You think we'd let your daughter escape? Codex should have been caught by now."

As one of the priests said this, Mortis's heart trembled violently!

Codex was the only helper she could trust now, so she had entrusted him with leading her daughter through a secret passage to escape.

However, now that the enemy had seen through her plan, it meant her daughter couldn't escape.

"No! You're not allowed to hurt her!"

Exclaiming in panic, Mortis's expression changed drastically as she tried to escape from the altar.

Knowing her daughter's future fate, she couldn't die yet!

Unfortunately, at that exact moment, the altar began to shake.

*Rumble—*

In just two seconds, the altar shattered into several pieces and tumbled off the cliff.

"Eh?"

Mortis, unable to escape in time and losing her footing, fell along with the stones.

It was a drop of several hundred meters, but falling from such a height could mean only one thing—death.

An endless wave of despair, unwillingness, fury, and regret surged through Mortis—various negative emotions instantly filled her mind.

At this moment, she knew she was utterly powerless and could only accept the fate of dying from the fall.

"I'm sorry, Tribios..."

""AAAAAAHHH—!!!""

At the same time, near the entrance to the temple, the believers, witnessing the holy maiden's fall, could not help but scream.

Dannalio, on the other hand, curled her lips in a barely noticeable smile upon seeing Mortis's fall.

Because the city was built into the mountains, accidents involving people falling from the cliffs were not rare throughout history, so for this reason, Mortis's death would be seen as an accident, and no one would be held accountable.

In the end, she would have total control over the right to deliver prophecies.

As for the content of the prophecies... was it not up to her to decide?

As she thought this, Dannalio found the sight of Mortis falling even more beautiful—her figure plunging at breakneck speed truly looked like a gift from the gods.

However, in the next second, a dark shadow suddenly shot up from the ground, and in the blink of an eye, it soared a hundred meters into the air!

At the very instant when Mortis fell and the dark shadow rose, the two met and, surprisingly, stopped in midair!

Everyone looked up in astonishment as they saw an unknown young man holding the holy maiden in his arms.
