Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: This Money Is Not Easy to Earn

Wen Dong drove very fast on the winding mountain road. If one looked outside the car, one might be scared the car would fall off the cliff at any moment. But Wen Dong drove fast and steady. Despite this, many cars going up the mountain saw Wen Dong's Buick and pulled over, afraid this madwoman would crash into them.

The reason Wen Dong drove so fast was because Ye Mo remained calm and indifferent the whole time. Driving so dangerously fast on the mountain road was her way of trying to surprise Ye Mo and make him worried so he would tell her to slow down. Once Ye Mo said that, she planned to lecture him, saying: "What do you call fast? You haven't seen real speed yet. Since you're so timid, I'll slow down."

But halfway up the mountain, Ye Mo hadn't said a word. Wen Dong glanced back, surprised to find Ye Mo had closed his eyes, apparently resting as if sitting leisurely in a café rather than in a car on the edge of a cliff.

Wen Dong was completely speechless. Even if he wasn't afraid, driving so fast on such a steep mountain with no guardrails should at least require watching the road. Yet he was sleeping.

Was he just thick-skinned? Or was he overly confident in his driving skills? How could he know he was that good? In fact, even Wen Dong herself was a bit nervous driving so fast on this mountain.

Recalling Ye Mo's fearless personality when they first met, Wen Dong finally understood him a bit. Put nicely, he was a fearless young calf before the tiger. Put bluntly, he was a bit of a fool. But that kind of person was exactly what she needed right now to help her. Otherwise, doing the deal alone would be difficult.

Seeing Ye Mo not concerned about speed, Wen Dong slowed down gradually. Driving fast on such a winding mountain was still dangerous. She planned to speed up after getting off the mountain and onto the highway.

At that moment, Ye Mo opened his eyes and casually asked, "How far is it?"

Wen Dong immediately answered, "About six hundred li (roughly 300 kilometers)."

"Still that far? You're driving this slow? How long will it take?" Ye Mo frowned.

Hearing this, Wen Dong almost drove off the cliff. She thought she was already driving fast, so how could this be slow? No wonder he hadn't spoken earlier — he must have thought she was too slow.

"This is the mountain road. I'll drive faster once we get on the highway," Wen Dong replied helplessly.

Fortunately, Ye Mo didn't continue to question her speed and closed his eyes again. If it weren't for the slightly dissatisfied tone in his voice just now, Wen Dong might have thought he was teasing her.

Once on the highway, Wen Dong accelerated. Ye Mo felt the car swaying slightly, glanced at the speedometer — the speed was just over 200 km/h, yet the car was already drifting.

Less than two hours later, Wen Dong drove into Tandu. Instead of entering the city center, they stopped in front of a large detached villa in the suburbs.

Ye Mo glanced at the villa — very grand, surrounded by a large bamboo forest and an enormous artificial lake. The yard was spacious, with seven or eight luxury cars parked, and the lawn was large enough for two soccer fields. Clearly, the owner was very wealthy.

"Carry the small box, I'll take the big one," Wen Dong said as she got out, picking up the large box from the back seat. Ye Mo knew the big box contained an AK rifle, the small one some documents and a model.

Seeing the villa's scale, Ye Mo knew the owner wasn't just rich but had connections; otherwise, having such a large estate on the city outskirts was rare.

Thinking this, Ye Mo took out a purchased baseball cap and sunglasses from his backpack and put them on, then wore a mask. Finally, he picked up the box Wen Dong asked him to carry.

Wen Dong saw Ye Mo's outfit, mouthed something but said nothing. She didn't understand why Ye Mo dressed like this. To her, he seemed thick-skinned and unlikely to imagine being chased or retaliated against. Yet Ye Mo was doing exactly that, and she didn't know why.

However, Ye Mo looked very cool like this, giving off an indescribable vibe.

"Not bad at all," Wen Dong murmured, picked up the boxes, and walked into the villa. Her car didn't enter.

Two guards stood at the villa's entrance. Ye Mo glanced at them. Seeing Wen Dong enter, they didn't stop or question her, let alone check. They just let Wen Dong and Ye Mo enter.

Ye Mo's spiritual perception was limited — only able to see within five or six meters, and somewhat blurry — so he couldn't inspect the villa.

"Haha, Miss Wen, even after leaving Beisha, your heroic spirit hasn't diminished. Gong has been waiting a long time. Come, let me pour you some tea," a somewhat aged but loud voice sounded as they entered the hall.

"No need for tea. I need to do the deal immediately. Once done, I'm leaving, no future ties," Wen Dong said decisively, waving her hand.

Ye Mo looked at the speaker — a man in his fifties with some gray hair but energetic. He gave off a cold murderous aura; though smiling, his eyes were sharp and flickering. Not a simple man, definitely suspicious.

But to Ye Mo, this man was at most on Wen Dong's level, possibly inferior; he didn't put him in his eyes. No matter how suspicious, strength made all that irrelevant.

Two men stood on either side of the man. Unexpectedly, no one guarded the main door they entered through.

Ye Mo immediately knew this cold man was not easy to deal with. No guards at the door didn't fit his cold demeanor.

Using his spiritual perception, Ye Mo scanned and found four more men: two standing outside the door, one crouching on each side. They all held guns, though those crouching were cleverly hidden behind a screen. The two at the door had hidden outside after Ye Mo and Wen Dong entered.

The screen was semi-transparent with many holes, allowing clear view through from one side. The bottom part was hollow.

Ye Mo could tell because of his spiritual perception. The screen looked like a simple canvas, hollow inside, but the side near the interior was three-dimensional. The placement was clever — walking through the door, one would only see a plain screen; without spiritual perception, Ye Mo wouldn't have noticed.

Even without knowing one side of the screen was hollow, Ye Mo sensed something was wrong. Wen Dong hadn't noticed because the screen was fixed to the ground near the door — an unusual setup.

The hollow side of the screen hid a person dressed to blend in perfectly. Many holes on the screen allowed partial view, but cleverly only showed half to those entering.

A normal person would ignore such a common screen and wouldn't suspect anything.

It seemed Wen Dong's deal was not simple at all. Indeed, earning 50,000 yuan was not easy money.
