Chapter 10 - Episode 10: The inevitable

Previously on Nathan's Journey... Nathan's quest to find more clues and clear his name came to halt as all he's left with is to hand himself with hope the phone logs will help his case but Nathan knows his path is riddled in darkness...

It resumes to Nathan driving in the security guards car.

"I'm glad the streets are empty..." He drives taking his time. "Well I better enjoy this beautiful night full of-" he looks up but he doesn't see any stars just bright moon light shining down on him. "That's a super moon, I'm glad I got to see it on my final moments of freedom." He grips the wheel. "I wish... I could've stayed... I wish I could be there for her. She's not going to survive without me, her Bipolar is gonna get worse! I don't want to do this!!" He yells crying. "Why is this happening to me?!" He yells out to anyone to his but his voice is muffled under his cries for help. "If I can't have her..." He looks to the gun he took from that guard. "Maybe... I can just end it all? I already know I'm going to hell..." he parks by the side walk. He holds the gun to his head. "It's better this way, at least they can't take her if I'm dead." But he sees her crying at his funeral. "No... I can't do that to her, she definitely couldn't beat losing me forever, she would most likely..."He imagines he hanging herself. "I don't want her to come with me to hell... I have to..." He starts the engine and drives faster. "Fight for her!!" He exclaims as he speeds through the silent night of North Shore straight to the police station.

Nathan sits in the car hesitant. "Do I do this? Actually hand myself in? Am I really knocking on Hell's door?" He looks to the doors and sees flames surrounding it. "I've always been brave, I've always taken the risk, I've always faced my challenge ten toes down... But this..." His heart beats violently as he hyperventilates as he grips the wheel about yo drive away. "NO!" He stops himself as he imagines the cops chasing him and Andrea for the rest of there lives. "If I run now I'll be running for the rest of my life. I can't give her a future like that!!" He steps out of the car full of conviction.

"Hey"

Nathan walks forward.

"Hey!!" A police officer next to Nathan shouts.

"Oh sorry I have hearing problems." Nathan reveals.

"What kind? You don't seem deaf?" The officer says in a of interrogative tone.

"I have a reduced volume perception. I can't hear quiet sounds I can only hear louder sounds I can't even hear my own voice unless I'm speaking loudly or shouting." Nathan fully explains his condition calmly to the officer.

"So kid, what are you doing here? And so late at night too?" The officer says looking at Nathan like he knows what he's doing here.

"I'm here to hand myself in and plead my case." Nathan says calmly with no intention of harm in his voice.

"Alright boy, I'll take your Statement and put you in holding." They walk into the station.

The scene goes to Nathan in the interrogation room and Nathan's explains everything that's happened so far in a calm manner.

"So let me get this straight, your turning yourself in for fleeing the crime scene, culpable homicide of Joseph Catling and being mugged by a drug addict and killed said Addict in self defense, then you trespassed into North Shore club's security room and crippling the security in a fight of self defense as the guard refused to listen to reason, oh plus grand theft Auto of that Security guard's car and his gun being on you doesn't help your case at all." He recounts the long long rap sheet Nathan's accumulated over his Journey so far. "So when did all this happened?"

"Last Night" Nathan says looking down as he realizes how bad this is.

"That makes no sense how did you do all this across the span of one day? You went from a clean rap sheet to a serial killer level crime spree?" He says genuinely confused.

"I know... I don't deny it, this is really bad but I swear I never had the intention to hurt anyone, so many things happened around me I can't explain, that I didn't kill Joseph Catling he shot himself in the head if you check the gun by his body you wouldn't find my finger prints on it, and with the security guard , I have footage of him and the boss setting me up. And finally with this phone I have proof that I didn't kill Emily Wilson she killed herself and it's framed like I killed her but if you look at the knife my prints Again aren't there. That is my proof that my charges should be suspended or shortened because there is clear evidence that I am not a murder but a victim of a set up." Nathan stating valid logical facts that genuinely makes his case valid.

"Okay boy... You can say all that but." As the officer looks him dead in the eyes. "You killed my daughter." He suddenly reveals.

"Wait what? Are you Emily's father?!" Nathan says

"Yes, her real name is Isabel Jameson but I disown her when she became a prostitute and she dragged the Jameson name through the dirt so she changed her name." He says a single tear sheds from his tough face covering it in the shadows.

"Look sir, I know this sounds crazy but I didn't kill her you have to believe me!" He desperately says.

"Alright then take a polygraph test." Officer Jameson says.

"Fine I'll do anything just to show you I didn't do it." He leans into the light above table with nothing to hide.

"Fine boy." He goes and takes the lie detector machine. "This machine can detect when your lying by the fluctuation of your heart rate, if your lying your heart rate will spike, if your telling the truth it will remain the same." He leans in close. "You better hope your telling the truth, if your lying to me, I won't hesitate to shot you right here and now. Because scum don't deserve to get off easy with jail, they deserve to burn in hell." His eyes look to Nathan with no remorse or care if Nathan lives or dies.

"That's fair, and when you see I'm not lying will I be let off with no charges?" He tries to negotiate for his freedom.

"I can't do that, you'll be taken to trail but your odds will be a lot better that you get your suspended sentence or shortened sentence as this is your first offence with all this evidence that shows your not the culprit." He shows that he's a fair cop unlike all the other cops we've seen.

"Okay I'll take that." He says to Officer Jameson.

"Then let's get this started..." he hooks up the machine to Nathan's torso. "We'll first see what your heart rate is when your telling the truth."

"Yes sir..." Nathan says calmly.

"Just reply Yes or No. Is your name Nathan Marcus Sanders?" Officer Jameson asks.

"Yes." He says calmly withput hesitation.

"Okay 100bpm is his heart rate when he's telling the truth. If it goes over 120bpm he's telling a lie." Officer Jameson thinks while keeping a plain expression on his face.

"So what's the next question?" Nathan asks.

"Wecre you at the scene of Emily Wilson's murder?" He asks Nathan.

"Yes..." Nathan says honestly.

The machine read 100bpm.

"Truth." Officer Jameson says.

"Okay what's the next question?" Nathan says keeping his calm composed demeanor.

"Did you murder Joseph Catling?" Officer asks.

"No." Nathan says calmly.

Nathan's heart reads 105bpm.

"Truth." Officer Jameson says.

"You see I didn't kill him. That's one charge down" Nathan says.

"Fine, the culpable homicide charge is overturned. Now did you run away these scenes because you knew you committed it or because you were afraid?" The next question is way tougher on Nathan.

"Well I ran because I was afraid no one was going to believe me." Nathan says not happy about it.

Nathan's heart rate reads 100bpm.

"Truth. Why did you come to the police station as soon as you could?" He digs deeper.

"Because I knew you guys wouldn't believe me if I didn't bring evidence that proves my case like right now." Nathan says honestly.

Nathan's heart rate stays the same.

"Truth. So tell me how did the whole ordeal with that security guard?" Officer Jameson digging deeper into the club mishap.

"Well I wanted more proof, and I talked to the bartender and I got him to give me the code for the security room, I know I was trespassing but I needed the proof. So as I go in I get the flashdrive full of what happened the night before, which I brought as part of my case." Nathan says admitting it clear his heart rate remaining the same.

"So how did that gurad end up crippled?" Officer Jameson asks.

"I didn't hear him coming until it was too late, then he held me at gun point and in the footage you can see I tried to reason with him and defuse the situation, I was gonna hand myself in here but this guard wasn't going to listen and he wanted to kill me, so I had no choice but to defend myself, I didn't want to hurt him so I tried to tackle him down, but the door was right behind him and unfortunately he was crippled for life..." Nathan says shedding a tear or remorse.

Nathan's heart rate reads 100bpm.

"Truth... Of all those charges you were initially charged with, the murder, culpable homicide, murder, trespassing, assault, and grand theft Auto. Your testimony proves that the only crime you actually committed intentionally was Trespassing and Grand Theft Auto. You'll probably at most get 2-5 years in jail at most or even get a suspended sentence because your case along with this polygraph you have all the evidence needed." Officer Jameson says calmly.

"So I can leave?" Nathan says with a so much hope in his eyes as this is so close to being over.

"Your not allowed to go unfortunately you've still got to get a verdict for how long your sentence should be. So if things go right across these 2 weeks you'll a free man." Officer Jameson says fairly.

"Yes!!" Nathan exclaims.

"Okay your coming with me to the holding cell and you'll be able to get visited start tomorrow until your trial.

"Alright." He smiles walking with Officer Jameson.

"You'll be in this cell." He point to a dingy dark cell with pee stains on the walls and a terrible stench.

"That's just disgusting! You guys are animals!!" He exclaims in disgust.

"Well take this single cell that stinks or have room mate like him." He points to a big black dude in cell next to him.

The big black guy making kissing faces at Nathan.

"What's he in for?" He asks the Officer.

"Rape of his brother sister and father." Officer Jameson says disgusted at the man.

"And I'd do it again!!" The man is clearly without a conscience.

"Do they stay in there cells?" Nathan asks scared for his life.

"Yeah, but if you don't bother them they won't bother you." Officer Jameson assures.

"Alright..." Nathan sits in the dirty cell and goes to bed.

"Night kid..." Officer Jameson says.

"Night." Nathan says trying to close his eyes and sleep. "This is terrible... I want my freedom!" Nathan thinks as he stares out at the supermoon.

It cuts to black
