Chapter 244: Beating Down the Three-Tails!
The dust gradually settled. The sole survivor of the Hidden Mist forces, Suikazan Fuguki, stood stubbornly amidst the wreckage. He had only survived the ferocious gale from the Flame Uchiwa by relying on the endless supply of chakra from Samehada. He had used the chakra he'd stolen from Kagami to continuously heal his wounds. Even so, his body was covered in cuts, and he was soaked in his own blood.
'Escape!' was the only word in his mind. He had used up almost all the chakra stored in his blade. He would not survive another attack.
The main target of the storm, the Three-Tails, Isobu, had simply tucked its head into its shell and weathered the blast without a scratch. Hearing the wind die down, it poked its head out of the Swamp of the Underworld and looked towards the Konoha forces. It didn't care in the slightest that the Kiri army had been nearly wiped out. Its attention was fixed on the strange fan in the Konoha ninja's hands.
The Tailed Beast Bomb was its ultimate attack. For that ninja to block it with a simple fan... the shock was immense. 'It can absorb a Tailed Beast Bomb? What is that fan?!' Its massive eyeball stared at the Gunbai. 'And I feel like I've seen it somewhere before...'
It had seen techniques that could stop a Tailed Beast Bomb before. That man, Hashirama Senju, had once caught one in his bare wooden hands. But how many Hashiramas were there in the history of the world?
A few small question marks floated over Isobu's large head. It gave up and turned its attention to the Five-Tails. While it had been forced to fire its own Tailed Beast Bomb quickly, Kokuō had been charging its own, completely unhindered. The black sphere floating in front of it was now so large that even Isobu was beginning to feel uneasy.
'I have to stop it! But first, I have to get out of this swamp...'
Though it was a Tailed Beast, it didn't want to get hit by another Tailed Beast Bomb. Once it got to dry land, it could use its rolling attack. Then, whether it chose to fight or run, it would have options. However, the Swamp of the Underworld was a jutsu specifically designed to restrain large creatures. The more Isobu struggled, the deeper it sank into the viscous mud.
Keisuke, of course, had no intention of giving the big turtle any time to move. He looked up at the sky. The thick, dark storm cloud that Kokuō had been feeding with its steam was ready, lightning crackling within it. But, considering Isobu's natural armor, he decided to add a little "insurance."
"Kagami!" his command echoed across the battlefield. "Use your largest-scale Water Style!"
Largest-scale? Does he mean 'Weeping Marsh'? But against the Three-Tails... Kagami hesitated for only a moment. An order was an order. He flew down, gathering chakra for his Mangekyo's dōjutsu.
"Weeping Marsh!"
A long, narrow waterspout erupted from in front of him, slamming into the trapped Isobu. Fed by Kagami's immense chakra, the waterspout grew, and in a moment, had completely engulfed the Tailed Beast.
At first, Isobu was overjoyed. As a water-based turtle, the attack was like a cool shower. The water also began to wash away the swamp's mud, and it felt the binding loosen. It prepared to escape.
But at that moment, Keisuke's attack arrived.
The instant Kagami's waterspout had covered the Tailed Beast, Keisuke had leaped back onto Kokuō's head, raised his hand to the sky, and began to guide the endless lightning within the storm cloud. Just as Isobu was about to break free...
"Kirin!"
He swung his hand down. The natural power of the heavens was molded into the form of a lifelike lightning-Kirin.
"ROAR—"
The beast let out a deafening cry and, with a flash of brilliant light, descended from the sky at the speed of light, striking the water-logged Isobu with perfect accuracy.
BOOM!!
A blinding flash of lightning lit up the world. The powerful electrical current, conducted perfectly by Kagami's waterspout, spread in all directions, turning the "water turtle" into an "electric turtle." The nearby Suikazan Fuguki was caught in the blast and died without a sound.
The Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, after this battle, were officially delisted.
Kagami and the other Konoha ninja watched the descending god of thunder and the helpless Tailed Beast it was suppressing, and their understanding of the "Shadow of Darkness's" power reached a new level. Perhaps... even the legendary God of Shinobi was only on this level...
As the lightning faded, Keisuke patted Kokuō's head. "Kokuō, now!" he said, looking at the paralyzed turtle. "Use the Tailed Beast Bomb!"
Kokuō fired. Isobu, still reeling from the Kirin, had no time to dodge.
The last thing the Three-Tails saw before it was knocked unconscious was the brilliant flash of the massive black sphere, and the figure of the ninja standing atop the Five-Tails' head.
With a heaven-shaking roar, a giant mushroom cloud rose into the sky.
The Three-Tails, Isobu: out of commission.
