Chapter 241: The Great Sword, Samehada!
Uchiha Kagami finally understood why the Three-Tails Jinchuriki had been fighting with such suicidal abandon. He had never intended to return to the Hidden Mist alive. To unseal the Three-Tails on the battlefield and use the rampaging, wild Tailed Beast to destroy the Konoha front—this was Kirigakure's true strategy. Samehada, the Seven Swordsmen, the entire Kiri army... they were all just support for the main event.
The life of Kirigakure's Three-Tails Jinchuriki had already been nearing its end. Even if the Third Great Ninja War had never happened, he was fated to die soon. Rather than letting him pass away quietly in the village, it was better to let him "shine" one last time on the battlefield, offering the last embers of his life for the glory of the Mist.
Kagami looked down at the roaring Three-Tails, his heart heavy. The Jinchuriki's power had already been formidable. But a wild, untamed Tailed Beast... its destructive potential would be even greater.
'How do I deal with the Three-Tails? Fire Style, or genjutsu?'
But the Three-Tails, Isobu, gave him no time to think. Having been sealed away for so long, its heart was filled with a deep resentment and rage. Now free, its first instinct was to vent that fury on the swarms of ninja around it. It retracted its head, limbs, and three tails into its spiked shell and, like a giant, demonic wheel, began to roll towards the most densely packed area of the battlefield.
"Shadow Crush!"
It made no distinction between friend and foe. Both Kiri and Konoha shinobi were in its path.
Seeing this, Kagami cast aside his thoughts of tactics. He commanded his Susanoo to drop from the sky, planting itself directly in Isobu's path.
BOOM!
The two colossi collided, and another heaven-shaking roar echoed across the land. The wild Isobu's power was far greater than the Jinchuriki's. Under the force of its charge, deep cracks spread across the surface of the Susanoo, and the giant was pushed steadily backward. Kagami, without a thought for the cost, poured a torrent of his "infinite" dōjutsu into the construct, repairing the damage and reinforcing its strength.
Under this endless supply of power, the Susanoo finally managed to halt the Tailed Beast's charge, locking them in a stalemate.
Just as Isobu's rotation began to slow, Suikazan Fuguki, who had been waiting for this moment, rushed in. "Samehada! Eat!" he roared, a crazed smile on his face as he swung the great blade, taking a massive bite out of... the Susanoo's calf.
The chakra drain was immense. The bright yellow Susanoo, as if a hole had been punched in it, began to visibly shrink. At the same time, Samehada's own body swelled, and Fuguki siphoned off a portion of the stolen chakra to replenish his own energy.
The Susanoo's power waned. Isobu felt the shift immediately. Though it didn't know why, it stopped its rolling attack, unfurled, and slapped the giant with its massive, grey hand.
"Coral Palm!"
WHAM!
The physical blow was one thing, but from the point of impact, a layer of grey-white coral began to spread at an incredible speed, encasing the Susanoo's entire upper body and even its wings. Kagami tried to break free, but the coral was far harder than he had imagined. He was trapped. And all the while, Fuguki and Samehada continued to feast on his chakra.
Forced into a corner, Kagami had no choice but to dispel the Susanoo, using his Yatagarasu to fly into the air.
'Samehada!' He glanced down at Fuguki. If it were just him and his sword, Kagami could have easily sent them both to meet the Sage of Six Paths. But he couldn't ignore the rampaging Tailed Beast. And if he focused on the beast, Samehada would just keep harassing him. He felt like a frog in a pot of slowly boiling water.
He was caught in a dilemma, but he had not forgotten his primary mission: stop the Three-Tails.
He flew through hand seals. "Fire Release: Dragon Flame Release Song Technique!" Four dragons of intense fire shot from his mouth, two aimed at Isobu, two at Fuguki.
Isobu simply tucked into its shell and tanked the attack.
Fuguki, however, had no such natural defense. 'Damn it! This fire jutsu is too fast! No time for seals!' He raised his sword. "Samehada! You just ate all that chakra, now it's time to work!"
Screeech—
The blade let out a sharp cry, but Fuguki ignored its protest and used its massive body to block the two fire dragons.
BOOM!
The flames scorched Samehada's spiny, shark-like skin, and the blade visibly shrank under the assault, but it held, protecting its wielder.
Isobu, unbothered, curled up again, preparing for another charge. Kagami sighed and was about to re-summon his Susanoo to intercept it.
But at that moment, a thunderous roar approached from the distance.
Nara Keisuke and the Five-Tails, Kokuō, had arrived at the Kiri front.
