Chapter 240: Susanoo VS The Three-Tails!
In the southeast of the Land of Hot Water, under the cold moonlight, the forces of Konoha and Kirigakure were locked in a battle to the death. At the very center of the conflict were two "colossi" that would make any ordinary ninja tremble with fear.
Uchiha Kagami had long since activated his Mangekyo Sharingan. His bright yellow Susanoo stood proudly on the battlefield, a pair of black wings on its back and a strange spiral spear in its right hand. When a being reached a certain size, even the simplest of moves could unleash the most terrifying power. He thrust the spear forward, and the Yin-chakra construct tore through the air with a piercing shriek.
But facing him was a giant creature of no lesser stature. Its entire body was covered in a thick, grey, spiked shell, and three massive tails trailed behind it. It looked like a mutated, grey turtle.
This was the Tailed Beast of the Hidden Mist, the Three-Tails, Isobu. Or, to be more precise, it was the Three-Tails Jinchuriki in his perfect Tailed Beast Transformation.
Faced with the Susanoo's charge, the Jinchuriki expertly retracted its head and limbs into its shell, using its nigh-impenetrable armor to block the attack.
BOOM—SCREEE—
The spiral spear ground against the hard shell, producing a deafening roar and sending a shockwave rippling outwards. For a moment, the two giants were locked in a contest of strength, the sound of the spear grinding against the shell setting everyone's teeth on edge.
'Is the Three-Tails Jinchuriki trying to get himself killed?!' Kagami thought from within the Susanoo, his brow furrowed. 'In my reanimated state, I can use my chakra without restraint. But for a living Jinchuriki to be so reckless... he's treating his own life like it's nothing!'
By his estimation, even if the Jinchuriki was exceptionally talented and had a powerful life force, he could not maintain this state for long. But Kagami also knew that he couldn't afford to get bogged down in a battle of attrition. As he wrestled with the Tailed Beast, his eyes scanned the rest of the battlefield. He caught a glimpse of a strange, pufferfish-like, deep-blue monstrosity rapidly approaching. And wielding it was a giant, orange-haired man.
'The great sword, Samehada!'
And its wielder, one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, Suikazan Fuguki.
Kagami immediately had his Susanoo beat its black wings, using his Yatagarasu ability to take to the sky.
Samehada, one of the seven legendary blades of the Mist, had the unique ability to absorb chakra. It didn't just absorb raw chakra; it could even "eat" elemental ninjutsu. It could then feed that chakra back to its wielder, healing their wounds. Against a reanimated ninja with near-infinite chakra like Kagami, it was the perfect counter. Fuguki's job was to support the Jinchuriki and wear him down.
However, Samehada was a picky eater. It didn't like fire.
Having figured this out in their previous skirmishes, Kagami immediately formed the hand seals. "Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation!"
A heaven-covering sea of fire rained down, the orange flames so bright they almost outshone the moon. Though he had trained under the Second Hokage and was a master of Water Style, he was still an Uchiha. How could he not know fire jutsu?
"This move again!" Fuguki cursed, swinging Samehada in frustration. "I hate Fire Style! And so does Samehada!"
The fire was descending too fast. Normally, he would have had to just tank it, but he wasn't alone. The Jinchuriki, seeing the inferno, aimed the Three-Tails' mouth at the sky and spat out a colossal ball of water.
"Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique!"
The B-rank jutsu, when used by a fully transformed Tailed Beast, was astonishingly powerful. The rising sphere of water slammed into the descending sea of fire, and the two forces exploded in a violent cataclysm.
BOOM!
Under the continuous supply of chakra from both Kagami and the Jinchuriki, the two jutsu clashed in mid-air, fire evaporating water one moment, water extinguishing fire the next. A thick, dense cloud of steam began to spread across the battlefield.
Kagami knew he couldn't let this happen. Fighting in the mist was Kiri's specialty. He immediately canceled his fire jutsu and molded water chakra instead.
"Water Release: Water Severing Wave!"
A thin, high-pressure jet of water shot from his hand, slicing towards Fuguki's last known position. In the mist, Fuguki heard the attack coming and cursed again, leaping out of the way. Samehada could absorb the jutsu, but not before the high-pressure blade scraped a layer of "skin" off it first.
Kagami, unable to see his target, redirected the jet and aimed it at the Three-Tails.
CLANG—CLANG—
The attack, which could easily slice through the earth, struck the beast's shell with the sound of metal on metal. It couldn't break through the defense. But through the sound of the impact, Kagami now had a lock on his opponent's position. He kept up the attack. While it couldn't pierce the shell, it was forcing the Jinchuriki inside to burn through his chakra at an alarming rate.
The man inside, an old, white-haired ninja, could feel his life force draining away. He remembered his final orders from the Third Mizukage, and a last, lingering look of longing for the world flashed in his eyes. He stopped trying to maintain the form, and instead used the last of his chakra to forcibly break the seal within his body.
The Perfect Tailed Beast Transformation vanished, revealing the dying old man.
And in his final, desperate act, the true Three-Tails, Isobu, was unleashed upon the battlefield.
"A full Tailed Beast Transformation? No—" Kagami stared in disbelief at the enraged beast roaring below.
"The real Three-Tails?"
