Chapter 245: Even Gods Will Die When They Are Killed!
The news of Shane's arrival on Sabaody spread like wildfire. All across the world, people gathered around projection snails, their eyes glued to the screen.
"He's really going to do it..." Belo Betty, the commander of the Revolutionary Army's Eastern forces, said, a wild grin on her face. "He's actually taking on the Celestial Dragons, in front of the whole world! This is the kind of thing we've only ever dreamed of!"
"Indeed," a man in a hooded cloak said, his eyes fixed on the screen. It was Dragon. "What a terrifying man. To have come this far in just over a year... A shame. Such recklessness... he is on the path to becoming another Rocks."
"Don't be such a downer, Dragon-san!" Betty snapped. "The Curtain Call crew is nothing like the Rocks Pirates!"
"The path is different, but the destination is the same," he said. Then, "Send word to the other armies. Tell them to make their move. And get a message to Ivankov. Tell him to cause a stir in Impel Down."
"Sir?"
"We may not be on the same side, but we share a common enemy," Dragon said, his face calm. "The man who is toppling the throne of the gods should not have to bear the backlash alone." He looked at the screen, his gaze settling on the figure of Kuma. It's been a long time, old friend. Go on, Kuma. Let them feel your pain. Let them feel your rage.
"How much longer?" Shanks asked, his gaze fixed on the horizon.
"Two or three hours, at best, Captain," came the reply.
"It's strange," Yasopp said. "How did they even get there?"
"A man who has come this far is bound to have his secrets," Benn said, lighting a cigarette. "The real question is, what are you going to do when we get there, Shanks? Do you really think he's going to listen to you?"
"...It'll be difficult," Shanks said. "But I have to try. As long as no Celestial Dragon has been killed, there is still a chance for negotiation." It's too soon... Why can't he just wait a few more years? Luffy...
Aboard the Moby Dick, Whitebeard was also watching the broadcast. "Gurarara! That little brat is really stirring up a hornet's nest! And he's got my old crewmate with him! Zehahaha! This is the greatest show on earth!"
On Amazon Lily, Hancock was staring out her window, a bored look on her face. "Is the new paper here yet?" she asked, a hint of impatience in her voice.
On Onigashima, Kaido and Yamato were watching the screen in silence. "Look," Yamato said, her voice cold. "The battle... is about to end."
Back on Sabaody, the battlefield was a wreck. Sentomaru and the Pacifistas were down. Kuma had brutally and systematically dismantled the two Holy Knights, destroying their bodies 800 times, once for every day Ginny had been a slave. Fujitora was holding off Z and the entire Marine fleet. And Kizaru... was surrounded.
"Well... this is a problem," he said, a pained look on his face.
Galaxy Impact!
Shane's fist, crackling with black-and-red lightning, slammed into Kizaru's chest, driving him into the ground. Shane planted a foot on his chest. "You can't run, Kizaru. Not this time." He looked up and saw that Shamrock had taken the opportunity to flee. "Coward," he sneered.
He dragged the two Holy Knights and the two Celestial Dragons to the center of the plaza, and forced them to their knees.
"Still think you're immortal?" he said to the spitting, cursing Gunshi. "Let's test that theory." He turned to Kuma. "Now."
Kuma placed a hand on her arm, and with a pop, a dark, five-pointed star of energy was ejected from her body. It screamed and writhed in the air before dissipating.
"W-What did you do?!" she shrieked, staring at her now-unmarked arm. In the next instant, the mark reappeared. "Hahahaha!!! Did you see that, you commoner?! You can't erase the mark of a god!"
"Is that so?" Shane said, and as Kuma ejected the mark a second time, he enveloped her in a thick, crushing layer of Conqueror's Haki. This time, the mark did not reappear.
"The mark... it's gone..." she whispered, her eyes wide with terror.
Shane did the same to Qilin, then looked out at the silent, watching crowd. He drew his sword, and his voice, like a thunderclap, rolled across the archipelago and out into the world.
"HEY, WORLD! YOU'RE ALL WATCHING, AREN'T YOU?! THEN KEEP WATCHING! THE REAL SHOW IS JUST GETTING STARTED!!!"
...
In Marineford, Sengoku smashed his fist on the table. On a whale-ship in the New World, Crocus and Rayleigh stared in stunned silence. In the Sakura Kingdom, Kureha took a long swig of her drink and smiled. In Water 7, Iceburg's jaw dropped. In his airship, Morgans was screaming with a joy so profound it was almost painful. "He's really going to do it! The madman is really going to do it!"
...
"You've seen it with your own eyes," Shane's voice boomed. "These so-called gods... they bleed, they scream, they beg for their lives. And yet... there are still those of you who believe they are special, that they are divine!"
"What a joke!" he roared with laughter. "Then open your eyes and watch! Even gods will die when they are killed! And a pig that dies so easily... is it still worthy of being called a god?!"
He swung his sword.
"NO!!!" Gunshi screamed.
SWISH!
Her head flew from her shoulders, and a fountain of blood erupted from her neck. Her headless body twitched, then collapsed to the ground. There was no dark mist. No regeneration.
"GUNSHI!!!" Qilin shrieked, and was silenced by another swing of the blade.
The world was silent. The Celestial Dragons... had been publicly executed. For the first time in 800 years.
"N-No..." Shalria and Rosward were now a sobbing, pathetic mess.
"Please, my lord! Spare me!" Rosward wailed, banging his head on the ground. "I'll give you anything! Money, Devil Fruits, my wives, my collection... I'll even bring you my mother and father in chains!"
