Chapter 244: So, I Was the One in Desperate Straits?
POP!
Qilin's head exploded again. A cloud of dark, malevolent mist erupted, and in the next instant, his head had regenerated.
"Gaaah!" he shrieked in agony. The regeneration didn't cost him any stamina, but the pain... the pain was very real. He had been able to endure it at first, but after being blown apart so many times...
Just then, he heard Kuma's voice, low and calm: "791."
"What?" Qilin gasped.
POP!
His head exploded again. He stumbled back, his eyes finally filling with terror. "You... you madman! What are you counting?!"
"792," Kuma said, his voice a low rumble. "The total is eight hundred. The number of days you Celestial Dragons tortured Ginny. Every day, every night... I remember all of it. Today, I will return that pain to you."
"793."
Another blow. Qilin's entire midsection was obliterated.
"794... 795... 796..."
With every number, another blast. The intervals grew shorter, the attacks faster. Qilin's body was a constant cycle of destruction and regeneration, his screams echoing across the battlefield.
"Stop it, you commoner!" Gunshi shrieked, riding an arrow to his rescue. "This has nothing to do with us! I've never even heard of this Ginny!"
Kuma turned his head and looked at her.
"What are you looking at?!" she snapped.
Kuma said nothing. His face was calm, his eyes were calm, but a chill ran down her spine. In the next instant, he was gone.
Behind me!
She loosed a volley of arrows, but it was too late. A massive hand was already clamped around her head.
"797."
POP!
Her head exploded.
"798."
Her torso.
"799."
Her legs.
"800."
The numbers were a death knell, each one accompanied by a devastating blow. Her screams turned to whimpers, then to sobs.
"He's a madman! A complete madman!" Qilin shrieked, but he didn't dare to move closer.
"Eight hundred," Kuma said, his voice low and final. He raised his hands, and two giant, transparent paw-prints appeared in the air, slamming down on the two Holy Knights and pinning them to the ground. They were completely exhausted, the constant regeneration having taken its toll. They had no strength left to resist.
"It's over," Kuma said, his expression calm. "Your immortality is troublesome, but not unbeatable. Now, we just have to wait for the captain to finish his fight."
"You... you commoner!" Gunshi gasped, her eyes filled with a venomous hatred. "Don't think this is over! Lord Shamrock's power is beyond your comprehension! When he is done, you will all die!"
"?" Kuma tilted his head, a confused look on his face.
BOOM!!!
Just then, a figure was sent flying through the air, crashing to the ground beside them. It was Shamrock. He was a bloody, tattered mess, a far cry from the arrogant god who had descended just a few minutes before.
"Impossible!" Gunshi and Qilin stared in disbelief. Lord Shamrock... was second only to the Commander-in-Chief... how could he be...
"Nothing is impossible," Shane's voice came from above. He landed gracefully beside Kuma. He knew Shamrock was strong, but without his three-headed hellhound, he was just a low-tier Admiral. And Shane... had just gone five days and five nights with the "World's Strongest Creature." A pampered flower like Shamrock... was no match for him.
He glanced at the two broken Holy Knights, then at Kuma's silent, grim face. He understood. He clapped his friend on the back. Kuma said nothing. Nothing needed to be said.
"What's wrong with you?" he asked, turning to Jack, who was staring at Kuma with wide, terrified eyes.
"N-Nothing, Boss," Jack stammered. "I just... I've never seen Big Brother Kuma like this... it's a little scary..." To blow them up eight hundred times... The gentle, fatherly man he knew... was a terrifying monster.
...
"You're quite something," Kizaru said, lazily dodging another one of Kuina's slashes. "Not even twenty, and you're already this strong. No wonder Gion was so impressed. A few more years, and you might even give me a headache."
Kuina didn't reply. She was pouring everything she had into her attacks, but Kizaru was just... toying with her.
"Alright," he said with a yawn. "This has gone on long enough, don't you think?" He vanished.
CLANG!
His light-speed kick sent her flying, and she coughed up a mouthful of blood. She stabbed her sword into the ground to keep from falling.
"Is that all you've got, old man?!" she gasped, a defiant grin on her face.
"You really shouldn't try to copy your captain's bravado. Are you going to give up?" he said, strolling toward her. "I really suggest you do. Because..."
He froze, a cold sweat breaking out on his brow.
"Because what?" a cold voice said from right behind him. "Finish your sentence, Borsalino."
