"Ten thousand yuan?" I studied Chloe's nervous expression. She was fidgeting with her hands, avoiding eye contact.
"I know it's a lot to ask," she said quickly. "But I really need it."
"What for?"
Chloe's face flushed. "It's personal."
"How personal?"
"Family stuff. I can't really explain right now."
I could tell she was hiding something. Her breathing was shallow, and she kept glancing toward the door. But I had over a billion yuan sitting in my accounts. Ten thousand was nothing.
"When do you need it?"
"Today, if possible."
I pulled out my phone and opened my banking app. "What's your account number?"
Chloe's eyes widened. "You're going to lend it to me? Just like that?"
"It's just money."
"Ten thousand yuan isn't just money to most people."
"I'm not most people."
Chloe gave me her account information. I transferred the money immediately.
"Done," I said.
Chloe stared at her phone as the notification came through. "I can't believe you just did that."
