Chapter 213 - Chapter 213: Speechless Tony, Gone Again?

Then

Light once again shone down on several people.

Just like the middle-aged man before them,

they too vanished—leaving not even a trace behind.

A faint voice drifted through the air.

『Carl』: "Alright, those who were deliberately causing trouble have been dealt with."

『Carl』: "As for the rest of you"

『Carl』: "You're not far from New York City. Walk back yourselves."

It was only then that the group came back to their senses.

However

When they looked up in search of Carl,

the Superman who had been hovering in the air…

was already gone.

The crowd immediately erupted in panic.

『Reporter A』: "Mr. Superman? Mr. Superman?"

『Student』: "He's gone! Superman disappeared!"

『Man』: "Yeah, but what now? How are we supposed to get back?"

『Woman』: "I don't know."

『Man B』: "There aren't even any houses here—let alone passing cars!"

『Student B』: "Don't tell me he actually expects us to walk all the way back?!"

『Man C』: "No way… we didn't even offend him!"

『Woman B』: "Yeah, and we're not Hydra either!"

『Reporter C』: "So why'd he dump us out here?!"

『Man D』: "Serves you right for poking your nose where it didn't belong. You came here looking for trouble!"

『Reporter D』: "You should be grateful he didn't kill you!"

『Man E』: "Ugh, I regret it so much… I shouldn't have come. All this for a bit of money—what was I thinking?"

『Man F』: "Now look at us, walking home on foot."

『Woman C』: "It's fine, isn't it? We still have the payment Hydra gave us earlier."

『Man F』: "Yeah, we can walk until we find a road and call a cab."

『Reporter A』: "True, but do you realize how much that's going to cost?"

『Man G』: "Then walk. No one's stopping you."

『Man H』: "No way! I can't handle that!"

『Reporter B』: "Wait—did you manage to film it?"

『Reporter C』: "What, Superman killing those Hydra guys?"

『Reporter B』: "Yeah, that!"

『Reporter C』: "I did! Got it all!"

『Reporter B』: "Perfect! Even if things didn't go as planned, this footage will go viral. Ratings will skyrocket!"

『Reporter D』: "…Crap, I didn't get it."

『Reporter C』: "How could you be so stupid?! You should've been quicker!"

Some of the photographers who accidentally caught footage of Carl obliterating Hydra operatives were ecstatic.

After all, no matter who those people really were

Superman's actions would stir up massive controversy.

Those who failed to capture the scene, however, were crushed with regret,

cursing themselves for missing the chance.

After leaving the outskirts, Carl didn't head home.

Instead, he made his way to Stark Industries.

Originally, he'd planned to track down Alexander Pierce

after all, as Hydra's highest-ranking agent within S.H.I.E.L.D.,

Pierce surely had answers about today's events.

But as Carl used his super vision to locate Pierce's whereabouts,

he noticed something strange near Stark Tower.

Numerous official task forces were converging from every direction,

surrounding the building

even deploying armored vehicles, tanks, and aircraft.

Carl frowned.

He didn't remember any plotline like this in the Marvel universe.

Stark Tower surrounded by government forces?

That was absurd.

Before Tony became Iron Man, Stark Industries had been one of the government's largest weapons suppliers.

Afterward, Tony himself was a publicly recognized hero—his reputation with the people rivaled that of the government itself.

And given his close ties with S.H.I.E.L.D., there was absolutely no reason for them to lay siege to him.

Yet here they were

Stark Tower, under military lockdown.

Something was definitely off.

Carl decided to take a closer look.

When he arrived, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts were still inside.

In fact, they were just about to return to the office.

『Tony』: "Mr. Superman?"

Seeing Carl, Tony was taken aback.

『Tony』: "Where did you go just now? What about those reporters and students?"

『Carl』: "I sent them to the outskirts."

『Carl』: "Couldn't let them interfere with Stark Industries' operations."

『Tony』: "…Right. I… guess that works."

Tony had no idea how to respond.

He didn't expect Carl to solve the problem by simply removing hundreds of people.

Crude, sure—but effective.

At least the crowd was gone.

Then

Whup-whup-whup!

The sound of helicopter rotors filled the air.

Everyone turned to see two military choppers heading straight toward them.

『Tony』: "Helicopters? Military ones?"

He frowned, surprised.

『Tony』: "What are they doing here? Pepper, did I have a meeting with any government officials today?"

『Pepper』: "No, there's nothing like that on the schedule."

『Pepper』: "And it's nearly the end of the workday."

『Tony』: "Right, that's what I thought. So why are they here?"

Carl smiled faintly.

『Carl』: "Probably because of me."

『Tony』: "Because of you?"

Both Tony and Pepper looked confused.

They didn't know Carl had any connection to government agencies.

『Carl』: "Yeah. Because of me."

With a nod, Carl raised his hand—space rippled around him.

In an instant, the two helicopters, along with the tanks, armored vehicles, and soldiers surrounding Stark Tower,

vanished without a trace.

『Pepper』: "Mr. Superman…?"

Pepper's expression turned strange.

Carl had just arrived—and not even a minute later,

he disappeared again.

Tony, however, seemed thoughtful.

He had noticed that as Carl vanished,

the helicopters outside had disappeared too.

That could only mean one thing

Carl had taken them with him.

Given what Tony had seen earlier—Carl teleporting the crowd away—it wasn't hard to guess.

Those soldiers were clearly there for Superman, not him.

And judging by the situation,

they weren't here to talk…

but to fight.

Jason, a major general in the U.S. military, had received an unusual order earlier that day.

His superiors had contacted him directly, requesting that he send troops to Stark Industries.

At first, Jason assumed it was for a standard negotiation with Tony Stark.

But the moment he heard the real objective

to attack Superman

he froze.

He wasn't stupid.

He knew full well what kind of power Superman possessed.

Even if he sent every soldier under his command, they'd be wiped out instantly.

So, naturally, Jason refused.

But his superiors didn't seem surprised by his hesitation.

They already knew what Carl was capable of.

Their proposal changed

they only wanted one squad to engage Superman.

Victory wasn't required.

And in return?

They promised Jason a promotion.

For a major general, that was no small temptation.

Promotions at his level were almost impossible to earn.

Yet all he had to do was send a single squad into a hopeless battle.

How could he refuse?

Jason agreed immediately.

He dispatched a strike team,

knowing full well they would likely be annihilated.

But he didn't care.

The outcome didn't matter—only the promotion did.

He didn't even bother to participate himself.

Yet, as he sat comfortably at home, watching television

in the blink of an eye,

he found himself standing in the middle of a dense mountain forest.
