"Tony, take care of my mom. Leave the rest to me."Clark walked up to Tony and handed Mary to him. After dealing with this mess for so long, Clark felt like he would explode if he didn't vent somehow.
"Hey! I didn't come here to babysit your family."As he caught Mary, Tony finally realized Clark wanted him to play bodyguard. But that wasn't why Tony had come—he knew that once Clark flew off, there was a chance he wouldn't come back.
Freed from his burden, Clark immediately turned and flew toward the fighter jets behind him. But the moment Clark handed Mary over, Diggle—sensing something was wrong—ordered the jets to scatter. He had just received word that a Trident missile was en route.
All they needed to do now was stall Clark a little longer. Diggle believed that when the next missile hit, they'd recover Superman's corpse.
Though Diggle's team dispersed, that only made things slightly more troublesome for a fully aggressive Clark. At Mach 10, he reached Diggle's jet in less than a second.
Overhearing the chatter, Clark knew that the man in the lead jet had to be the commander of this operation.
Clark landed on the nose of Diggle's jet, stared through the canopy at the man inside, and mouthed the words:"Are you ready to die?"
Diggle didn't even have time to process the question before Clark grabbed the jet and hurled it toward another one. The extreme G-forces overwhelmed Diggle, leaving him gasping for air. In his final moments, he spit one last sentence at Clark:
"You'll be joining us soon!"
Clark ignored him. He went on to destroy every jet chasing him. But then he spotted a massive missile streaking toward him from the distance.
"Is this the Trident?"
Clark looked at the incoming missile and gave a faint, mocking smile. He didn't dodge. Instead, he looked skyward—his enhanced vision locking onto a satellite hovering above.
He wanted the people watching to know: with current human technology, there was no way they could harm him.
"Clark!"Far away, Mary could only watch as the giant missile struck her son.
"Bingo!"In a secret base, a group of people stared at the satellite feed showing Clark standing motionless as the missile hit him.
At the point of impact, a mushroom cloud bloomed into the sky.
"Send a team to retrieve Superman's body. With it, I can develop a serum far more powerful than the Super Soldier formula," ordered Sitric to his subordinates.
"Wait!"Just as his men were about to leave, Sitric stopped them."No… he's not dead. What?! He's not dead?!"
On-screen, the image showed a man emerging from the still-dissipating mushroom cloud—none other than Clark, the same man hit point-blank by the missile.
To Clark, the impact felt like a regular punch to a normal person. It hurt, sure, but he could bear it. He didn't even get knocked back. The heat from the explosion was nothing to him.
Once the blast faded, Clark figured he'd acted weak long enough. He shot up toward the satellite that had been spying on him—he needed something to smash to vent his rage.
So Sitric's final image was a fist coming at the satellite—then the screen went black.
"Damn it!"Sitric slammed his fist onto the table in frustration.
"Didn't you say he couldn't survive a missile strike? Do you know how many people we sacrificed just to launch that missile?"
That wasn't a regular missile—it was an intercontinental ballistic missile, each costing tens of millions. Worse, firing one meant S.H.I.E.L.D. would definitely detect them. They'd only taken such a huge gamble because they believed they could retrieve Superman's corpse.
Based on their research, Clark resembled the Superman from planet D—they believed he drew power from Earth's sun. The longer they waited, the stronger he'd become, so Sitric and his men acted fast once they confirmed Clark's identity.
What they hadn't expected was that Clark was already this powerful. Ironically, Sitric had used Nick Fury's own anti-Superman contingency plans as a blueprint for this ambush—but Sitric's attack had already far exceeded the intensity Fury had proposed.
Now, Sitric could only conclude one thing: he'd been tricked by that bald bastard Fury.
"Damn it… That crafty Nick probably suspected there were traitors inside S.H.I.E.L.D. all along. He just used this Superman to flush us out. Damn it!"
Sitric's rage was bitter and nauseating—like swallowing a cockroach.
Meanwhile, in S.H.I.E.L.D., after the ICBM launch, Fury looked to Agent Coulson who was walking toward him.
"Did you find everything?"
"Yes. Didn't expect we had so many spies in our ranks."Coulson sighed, glancing at the list in his hands.
"This is just the beginning."
After destroying the satellite, Clark returned to Mary.
"Mom, are you okay?"
Mary rushed into his arms and hugged him tightly.
"I'm fine. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. I didn't want to worry you, but Mom, I think someone wants to see me."
Nearby, Tony was watching another helicopter approach and called out to Clark:
"Heads up. Looks like someone's coming for you."
When the helicopter landed, Clark recognized someone stepping out: Phil Coulson.
"Hey, Coulson. I've seen you before."
"What are you doing here?"
"Director Fury wants to see you. Tony, you're coming too."
"No thanks. I don't like your place. If Fury doesn't need my help, I'm out. I'm not holding a grudge, but I'm not staying either."With that, Tony waved at Clark, activated his Mark armor, and flew away.
"Since he's not going, let's go."Clark had plenty of questions for the bald egg—like how he knew someone was planning to target his parents, and where Senator Stern was now.
Clark had watched Marvel movies for decades, so he didn't actually know who this Stern was. But based on what the others had said, he was clearly part of Hydra.
And if Hydra dared come after him, they'd better be ready for the consequences. Clark originally planned to follow the plot like a live-action movie, but only now did he realize—this wasn't just some story.
This was real.He had people he cared about. People he wanted to protect.
From that moment on, Clark finally felt like he wasn't just an observer—he was part of this world now.
"Stern committed suicide."
After arriving at the S.H.I.E.L.D. base, Clark met Nick Fury, who clearly knew what Clark was going to ask.
"When?"
"Right around the time you smashed our 50-billion-dollar satellite."
