Chapter 3 - The Hidden Heir Steps Into the Light

The gates of Tengxin's private executive drive slid open with a low hum. Heads turned as a sleek black Maybach limousine rolled silently across the marble driveway.

Employees slowed their steps, whispering, tilting their heads, trying to see who might be inside. But the windows were tinted to impenetrable darkness, shutting out every curious gaze.

"Whose car is that?" someone whispered.

"I've seen this one a few times before," another murmured. "Never saw who stepped out, though."

Security moved in a practiced line, cutting off anyone who lingered too close.

When the car finally came to a stop before the private entrance, the atmosphere shifted, heavy with unspoken anticipation. A door clicked open with quiet precision.

First, a polished leather shoe touched the ground — then a long stride, the tailored cut of midnight fabric catching the light. Fingers adjusted gleaming cufflinks, smooth and deliberate. His lips came into view, followed by the sharp line of his jaw and the steady set of his shoulders.

At the entrance, Manager Zhao stepped forward, bowing deeply.

"Welcome back, Young Master Wang. The board is assembled."

Without a word, he moved toward the private elevator reserved for the Wang family, disappearing from sight before most employees could do more than whisper.

The boardroom gleamed with polished wood and glass, a chandelier casting golden light across the long table. At its head sat Madam Wang Lihua — elegant in a cream silk suit, her smile warm, eyes soft as if they carried endless patience.

Beside her loomed Wang Jianhong, COO & Senior Board Director— Yifan's father. His jaw was set, brows drawn in permanent disapproval, the kind of face that silenced a room without a word.

Around the table, board members whispered, the tension palpable.

The board secretary stood and spoke clearly, his voice steady over the quiet room.

"Thank you, Directors, for assembling today. With all members present, we will now proceed with the agenda. The next matter concerns the appointment of Tengxin's new Chief Executive Officer."

Director Liu, head of finance, was the first to speak. "Before we proceed to a vote, I must raise my concern. One successful deal does not make a leader. Tengxin needs stability, not impulsive risk-taking."

Director Chen from operations leaned forward. "With respect, Director Liu, the Nexa global gaming deal succeeded because of Wang Yifan's quick thinking. Without his decision to pivot at the last minute, we'd have lost our place in the market."

Liu's frown deepened. "And if it had failed? We would've lost billions. Leadership demands restraint, not instinct."

At the other end of the table, Director Wang — Yifan's father — finally spoke, voice measured but conflicted.

"I raised him to respect structure. Reckless decisions could jeopardize everything."

The room stirred, quiet murmurs passing among the directors.

Director Chen countered, "Boldness built Tengxin's legacy. Playing safe might preserve us, but it won't take us forward. Yifan's leadership reflects the next generation's drive — not recklessness, but readiness to act when others hesitate."

Then Director Chen continued, his tone sharper now.

"And let's not ignore the facts. Two months before the Nexa negotiations, Yifan was the only one who predicted the market dip in Asia-Pacific. He built a full contingency model — alone. The pivot you call 'impulsive' was a scenario he'd prepared long before the rest of us even noticed the shift."

A moment of silence followed — until Madam Wang finally spoke, her tone calm but firm.

"Director Liu, Director Wang — caution has its place, and it's one Tengxin has respected for decades. But we must recognize that Yifan's actions weren't impulsive. He studied the data, reviewed every projection, and made a decision when others hesitated. That is not recklessness. That is leadership."

Her words settled heavily in the room, quieting further debate.

The debate continued — sharp opinions, shifting alliances, papers sliding across the table as numbers and arguments collided. Hours passed in steady tension until the air itself seemed heavy with expectation.

At last, the board secretary gathered the folded ballots, handing them to the male assistant seated beside him. He opened each slip with practiced precision, his face giving nothing away, the soft rustle of paper echoing through the room.

"One vote… Wang Yifan."

"Another — Wang Yifan."

A beat. "Wang Yifan."

He continued, voice steady as the pattern grew unmistakable.

"Yifan… Yifan… Director Liu's abstained… Yifan."

By the time the final slip was unfolded, nearly two-thirds of the ballots carried Yifan's name.

The assistant passed the tally to the secretary, who rose again and adjusted his notes.

"After due discussion, the majority stands in favor. Wang Yifan is hereby appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Tengxin."

A restrained applause followed — formal, deliberate, carrying the quiet pulse of change.

His lips curved into a slow, confident smirk.

Congratulations circled the room. Even those who opposed him quickly changed their tone.

Director Liu forced a smile, bowing slightly.

"CEO Wang, please don't hold it against us. We only thought of the company's stability."

A calm, almost dismissive reply came from Yifan.

It's already behind us.

His voice carried quiet confidence — as though the outcome had been inevitable. Like he knew no one could ever stop him.

Chairman Wang Speaks

From the head of the table, Wang Jianhong, the chairman, leaned forward at last. The severity in his face softened into something rare — pride. A small smile curved his lips as his eyes rested on Yifan.

"Yifan," he began, his voice steady yet warm, "all this time, you've been coming to Tengxin quietly. At your request, we kept you hidden, letting you learn in silence, away from the public eye. You wanted to understand the company not through ceremony, but through effort."

He glanced at the directors, his tone gentle but resolute.

"Now the time has come. Tengxin no longer needs to hide its heir. The world deserves to see its new CEO."

His smile deepened, proud and unshaken.

I will hold a banquet — to formally introduce Yifan to the company and to the public as Tengxin's new leader."

The room stilled, not with thunder, but with reverence — a sense that they were witnessing the quiet turning of an era.

The boardroom emptied slowly, chairs scraping softly against the polished floor. Only three remained: Yifan, his mother Madam Wang, and his father, Wang Jianhong. Silence stretched between them, thick and deliberate, every unspoken word weighing heavier than the last. Eyes flicked, measured and calculating — a family, bound by blood and ambition, standing on the edge of something that could not be undone.

Madam Wang came to yifan saying congrats my son im so proud of you

Yifan's smile sharpened as he turned toward Madam Wang.

"You tried so hard to stop me but poor you… seems like things aren't in your control anymore."

"Watch your tongue!" his father barked, fist slamming against the table. His glare was molten fury. "All these years, and you still haven't changed!"

Yifan smirked lazily, eyes half-lidded.

But some things really don't change…

He tipped his chin at her.

At least he's still under your control.

Madam Wang only smiled gently, her tone soft, almost motherly.

"You think me wrong, Yifan. I have always wanted the best for you."

Her words, tender and flawless, made her seem the picture of grace.

Wang Jianhong rose, both hands protectively on his wife's shoulders, his voice rough with scorn.

"Don't waste your breath on him, dear. He'll always be the same — a spiteful brat who knows only how to wound and trample others."

And just like that, the air in Tengxin shifted — no longer a celebration, but the quiet beginning of a war no one was willing to admit had already begun.

few hours later…

Despite weixiao concentration, something wasn't clicking.

The logic wasn't lining up.

No matter how many times she adjusted the event parameters, the outcome refused to trigger correctly. The PvP modifier wasn't applying, and the event reward logic kept skipping entirely. She frowned at the screen, muttering to herself.

"Why isn't the event condition firing properly…"

"Because your trigger's tied to the global cooldown state instead of the match instance," came a calm, confident voice behind her.

She jumped slightly, then turned to see Zhou Yiming, one of the devs from their own Game Dev division, leaning casually beside her chair, hands in pockets, signature half-smile on his face.

Sharp and clever, with real technical chops, he talked like everything was just a chill conversation, even when solving problems most people had to Google twice. Somehow, his casual vibe only made his expertise stand out more.

"Oh."

She made the fix. The logic clicked into place.

A pause.

"…Thanks," she said quietly, eyes still on the screen, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

Zhou didn't press. Just gave a short nod and a small smile of his own before wandering off like it was nothing.

Just then, a voice called from a few desks over.

"Hey, Zhou! Can you help me too? I'm stuck with this error."

Zhou walked over, friendly as ever. "Sure. What's the issue?"

Mei Yan turned her screen toward him. "The blend tree animation won't transition smoothly. I thought I set the parameters right."

He scanned the setup, then nodded. "You missed a condition flag in the animator state machine."

A few keystrokes later: "There — fixed. It wasn't registering the idle exit properly."

Mei Yan beamed. "Thanks, Zhou! You're a lifesaver."

Zhou stood up and stretched. "Alright, folks. Time to feed the team—lunch break. Who's in?"

Chen looked up. "You guys go ahead. We'll catch up. Ling's still wrapping up something."

Ling waved without looking up.

Almost done! Save me a spot.

Zhou leaned toward Wei Xiao.

You coming?

Wei Xiao shook her head lightly.

I'll go with them.

Alright. Come on, Mei Yan,Zhou said as he headed out.

Mei Yan lit up. "I'll come with you!" she said quickly, already halfway to standing. "Let's try that iced matcha today .

She practically skipped to the door beside him.

As they left, Chen glanced at Wei Xiao. "Did you see her face?"

"She definitely saw you laugh with him earlier,"

ling added with a smirk. "Probably marked you for assassination already."

Wei Xiao rolled her eyes. "Relax. I have zero interest in becoming part of her soap opera."

Next stop — Tengxin's cafeteria.

Calling it a cafeteria felt… inadequate. It looked more like a luxury hotel buffet crossed with a tech billionaire's private dining hall. Sleek white marble floors, soft jazz humming in the background, chef stations sizzling behind glass, and a waterfall — yes, a literal waterfall — running along one wall. You could grab handmade sushi or go for wagyu beef bento boxes, plated to perfection on the spot. Every dish looked Instagram-worthy.

The team walked in casually, but even casual had class here.

Wei Xiao picked a grilled eel rice bowl while Ling poked her chopsticks at a mountain of colorful vegetables, building her plate like an artist at work.

Even with the bustle of employees coming and going, the place didn't feel crowded. The air smelled faintly of miso and fresh bread, the kind of comfort that made you forget you were still inside an office building. For a moment, it was easy to mistake lunch break for a small escape.

They saw Zhou and Mei Yan slide into the seats beside them, trays clattering softly. Without a word, the two unwrapped their chopsticks and started eating, as if they'd been racing against hunger itself.

Wei Xiao was halfway through her grilled eel when a girl at the next table leaned toward her friend, voice just loud enough to carry.

"Did you hear? he is our new CEO."

"Who?"

"Wang Yifan."

"Yeah. They just sent the official email."

The words bounced from table to table—whispered, repeated, twisted—gossip igniting like sparks on dry kindling. Murmurs swelled. Heads turned. Eyes widened. The cafeteria was suddenly alive with speculation.

Ling frowned, chopsticks paused midair. "What are they even talking about?"

Zhou shrugged. "No idea. But everyone's been buzzing since we sat down."

Right then, their phones buzzed at once.

A company-wide email.

Notifications popping up everywhere.

New email.

Subject: Leadership Announcement.

Mei Yan checked her screen, opened the message, and read through it quickly.

Zhou leaned closer. "What does it say?"

Mei Yan read it out loud.

"…Effective immediately, Mr. Wang Yifan is our new Chief Executive Officer."

Chen looked at her own phone and let out a small breath.

"Guys… the gossip group was right."

Wei Xiao's phone lit up next—an HR notice: Welcome Wang Yifan as the new CEO.

The table went quiet.

So did the people around them.

Phones, screens, messages.

No rumor now.

Just the announcement settling in.
