Chapter Forty-Five: Eavesdropping
Isabelle still didn't move or open her eyes. She wasn't even flinching when Violet gently fixed her blanket or when Reign brushed her knuckles with his thumb.
The doctor entered with a clipboard in hand. His glasses sat crooked on his nose, he had this weirdly calm voice.
"I'm sorry, but visiting hours are over. She needs complete rest."
Reign looked up at the doctor fast. "I'm not leaving her."
"You have to," the doctor fixed his glasses. "She's stable, but unconscious. She won't be alone. Nurses will monitor her. You can come back tomorrow."
Violet stood with a sigh. "Let's go. We'll come early."
Maxx nodded, though he didn't look thrilled. "Fine. But if she wakes up screaming, blame yourselves."
Simon leaned against the wall, and bit his inner cheek. "I'll stay a bit longer."
Reign raised his eyebrows and his eyes darkened immediately as if he was giving him an angry look. "No."
"It's just five minutes."
"She doesn't want you here."
