Chapter 141: Looks Like Shrek Will Have to Suffer
While registering the Tianshui Six and Qian Renchuan for the tournament, Qian Xunji observed everything with his spiritual sense. He was a bit surprised—Ye Lingling seemed to be a masochist.
Her gaze told him that if Tang San pursued her now, it wouldn't take more than a few days to win her over. With her submissive tendencies, she might even fall to a bit of "overbearing persuasion."
This was a romance-driven continent after all. Love ruled everything. Despite Tang San leaving the Heaven Dou Imperial Team battered and injured, Ye Lingling showed no concern. Yet the original story emphasized that she cared most about her teammates.
At the arena entrance, all six injured Heaven Dou members stood before Qin Ming, their teacher—except for Ye Lingling.
"I'm sorry, Teacher Qin. We lost." Yu Tianheng stopped in front of him and bowed his normally proud head.
Qin Ming said nothing, only staring silently. Yu Tianheng was his most promising student—his pride.
Yu Tianheng continued, "Today's defeat is entirely my fault. I miscalculated, charged ahead alone, and fell into the enemy's trap. If there's punishment, let it fall on me."
Nearby, Dugu Yan was crying. Ever since her grandfather Dugu Bo died, she'd been alone. Though blessed with the Jade Phosphor Serpent and innate rank 7 soul power, her life had been smooth—so long as she avoided offending the powerful.
Before he passed, Dugu Bo warned her to stay out of trouble and live quietly. Ideally, she should marry someone with a powerful background and excellent talent while studying at the academy.
After that, she pursued Yu Tianheng, a direct heir of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. But he only saw her as a teammate. Instead, he was more interested in Ye Lingling.
If Yu Tianheng knew Dugu Yan's thoughts, he'd scoff. Everyone knew the Dugu clan's martial soul was cursed—users poisoned themselves. Why risk dating her and dying from residual venom? Not to mention reproducing—did she want their kids to grow up in a poison swamp and die young like Tang Zhen?
Anyone with sense would choose the Nine Heart Begonia Clan's Ye Lingling—not a walking poison bomb like Dugu Yan.
"All done. Please confirm."
The clerk handed the completed forms to Qian Xunji, sneaking glances at the Tianshui Six—all beauties far beyond her own looks. No wonder they were from the legendary beauty academy.
Level 50 at age fourteen. Level 46 at twelve. Were these people even human?
Tianshui Team:
Shui Bing'er – Level 50 Power Attack Soul Ancestor, Martial Soul: Ice Phoenix, Age: 14Xue Wu – Level 37 Support Soul Elder, Martial Soul: Celestial DanceYu Hairou – Level 37 Power Attack Soul Elder, Martial Soul: Coral PikefishShui Yue'er – Level 33 Agility Soul Elder, Martial Soul: DolphinQian Renchuan – Level 46 Healing Soul Ancestor, Martial Soul: Blue Silver Grass, Age: 12
Qian Xunji hadn't paid much attention to the other five before—only Shui Bing'er. Originally, Xue Wu and Shui Bing'er could use the fusion skill "Snowfall," but after Shui Bing'er's Ice Phoenix evolution, that was no longer possible.
Looking at the cold numbers now, he realized the gap between Shui Bing'er and the rest of her team was vast. No wonder Huo Wu had opened the fight with her ultimate move aimed directly at her.
Still, he thought, "There are no perfect soul masters, only perfect soul teams." That only applied to average talent. True prodigies followed their own cultivation paths, choosing soul rings aligned with their soul's origin. No genius would waste talent on team-focused compatibility.
Teams could also restrict individual brilliance. Take Tang San, for instance. If he went all out with his Eight Spider Lances, he could have wiped out the entire Heaven Dou team solo. His teammates wouldn't even get assists.
Elsewhere in the Advanced Soul Master Points Exchange Hall, the Shrek Seven had come to redeem points—only to be intercepted by Manager Ao, who personally led them to a private room.
He handed a black gold coin card to Dai Mubai—part of the reward for defeating the Heaven Dou team at the arena.
Dai Mubai pocketed the card. "Manager Ao, can we get our points now? We're exhausted and want to rest."
"Of course. But just now, a team arrived at Soto's Great Spirit Arena. After hearing of your exploits, they demanded to challenge you. They want to see what makes you 'monsters.'"
Ao's face showed a hint of guilt. Tianshui's team had Soul Ancestors and should only challenge teams of the same level. The Shrek Seven were mostly Soul Elders, so this match was technically unfair. But Tianshui had a powerful backer the arena couldn't afford to offend—so Shrek would have to suffer.
Dai Mubai grinned. "Oh? Someone wants to challenge us? What's their team called?"
"Tianshui Team."
"Tianshui Team…"
The Shrek Seven looked at each other. In their past lives, they'd left for Heaven Dou City after beating the Heaven Dou team. They never met the Tianshui team.
"Fine. We accept the challenge. We'll be at the arena tomorrow."
None of the Shrek members objected. In their memory, Tianshui had three Soul Ancestors, the rest Soul Elders. They were far weaker than the Heaven Dou Imperial Team. Maybe they had a decent martial soul fusion skill like Snowfall, but back then, Shrek had only used 80% of their full strength.
And really, that 80% was 70% Tang San alone. The remaining 30% came from the rest combined.
Even if a group of beautiful girls challenged them, it would end the same as before.
