Chapter 10: A Kiss Of Love And Sorrow
The night was cold in the secret walls of the palace, tension was thick as blood and gore laid bare in front of two children panting heavily, like they had just escaped hell.
" I'm sorry you had to experience this. You mother and father didn't expect that your first kill wouldn't be on a beast nor an enemy, but the same people who once protected you," Lora said, her voice breaking through the silence like a clean sword slicing through a veil.
" It's not your fault. It's mine. We're in this mess because I trusted someone I shouldn't. We all trusted a snake," Sol said, looking deeply at the bodies of the soldiers on the ground with a sunken frown. Let us not be mistaken, although it seemed like they had worked hand in hand to defeat the soldiers, most of the death had been caused by Lora, with two only being in the hands of Solarien.
He wasn't really battle hardened, so it was expected that he couldn't easily kill a man. And also, unlike Lora and the soldiers, he hadn't awkened yet, meaning he was clearly at a disadvantage right from the start. It was a miracle that he had even been able to kill two soldiers, even if they were weak. In any other case, he would have died.
But thanks to Lora, he was able to get away with just a few scratches.
" Well at the moment that snake is at the advantage. We need to leave quickly. Once we're gone. We'll go look for your parents and return to kill Henry," Lora said, as she wiped the blood off her face and turned around to leave.
Sol calmly followed her behind. He was a bit worried. He remembered clearly that Henry had spoken of Alzuras going to kill his parents.
He was outraged and spoke out of tounge. But what if he was wrong, what of Alzuras was actually not in the know about what was happening?
He just couldn't believe it. Deep down, he wanted to believe so much that what Henry said was just to scare him. And hopefully, that was all it was. To Scare Him.
••••
Thunder rolled in the sky as three figures fought above the clouds, every single one of their attacks would cause a massive shockwave, as thousands of beast and animals were wiped out.
" Not bad Micheal. It seems you didn't only break through to the Vessel realm, but even surpassed it. Now your have eleven awakened veins, meaning that you're now a Host of the Divine. You're able to call onto the power of the universe to help you fight," Alzuras said, as he blocked an attack from Micheal, a smile of amazement appearing on his face.
" But it still seems like it's unable to match the prowess of a god!" Micheal said, his voice clapping like thunder.
" That's right! A God is above all of that. You were a fool to think that you've surpassed mortal limits and become a god. The truth is, you're nothing but a frog in a well,"
" How dare you!" Nivea exclaimed, as she threw a ball of energy straight at Alzuras, her expression burning with rage.
No one had ever dared disrespect her husband like that, and she wasn't going to accept anyone saying such to him. Not even from a God!
" How insolent!" The god ragingly smacked the energy ball away with an enraged look, mirroring Nivea's.
" What kind of insolent swines are you?!" He said, looking at the two humans acting as arrogant and disrespectful as gods.
" You think that because you've become a heavenly host you're strong? And you, a measly little ascendant? How dare you attack me! I am the mighty sun God Alzuras, even if this is not my real body and just a host of my divine powers, I'll still burn you to ashes!" A burning red light began to pierce through the clouds and unto the king and queen.
As the light landed on them, they both felt a great wave of pain overcome them. It was almost like they had just been dipped in pan of hot oil. The worst part? This wasn't even his real body, the real Alzuras mist still be seated on his divine throne while using this body as a host for a part of his divinity to take control.
" Alzuras! I saw you as my God! My father! But now you come here to take a treasure your son wanted to use to make his kingdom and your glory great! You decided to side with a worm over me? And the worst of it all? You want to kill me and my child! " Michael gritted hi teeth and spoke, rage burning more and more in his heart!
" I promise you! If I don't die today, I will become a true god! And I will end you!" The smell of burning flesh began to waft in the air, as the mighty sun god stood towering in the air, looking down on the two burning humans.
" Alzuras! Forget about what Micheal has said! But if you hurt my child, I'll be back from the depths of hell and make sure I use the power of the sun to kill you! You will die in your own hands!" Nivea said, as her pristine white skin began to peel off her body.
" You both will never have the chance. A mortal will always be a mortal. You and I , are from different worlds. Even if I let you keep the weapon, it would be useless and would only bring more troubles as the other gods would even break the rules to get hold of it once they find out about it," the mighty sun god then intensified the rays of the sunlight, making Micheal and Nivea both scream in pain.
But they weren't screaming because they were in pain, but for the very fact that they wouldn't be able to protect their child anymore.
Their only child would die alone in the palace that he once called home.
••••
Back in the palace, the night air was thick as thunder and Lightning danced in the sky. Rain poured out from the heavens and unto the land below.
In the depths of a forest, a large stone door which seemed to have been there for thousands of years without moving an inch...finally moved.
It rolled to the side, as two figures, one male and one female strutted out, both panting like their life had just flashed before their eyes.
" We made it!" Lora said, her voice filled with excitement and relief.
They were in the forest behind the palace. No one ever came here as it was a restricted area. Although there were no beast, kings of old had deemed it restricted, not to be mysterious or because of any form of danger, but so as a safe escape route would be available in case of any need for the royal family to flee.
" Yes, now we can go and find my parents. They're the only ones who can stop this farce," Solarien said, heaving out a sigh of relief.
" Alright then, let us get going," she then gestured for Sol to lead the way, and they immediately began their journey.
But unknowingly to the two, a man with blue venomous eyes was standing atop a palace tower looking straight at them.
Beside him, two others stood beside him. One was with a sword and the other was with a bow and arrow.
" Kill him," that man with the blue eyes was Henry. He had remembered that the king had shown him the escape routes of the palace once, in case of an emergency.
So he had already known where they would be coming out from to escape. He then asked for a sword man and a bow expert to accompany him to the top of the tower where they had the best view of the palace. And immediately Sol and Lora came out of the expected route, he knew he had won.
The expert with the arrow aimed straight at the former crown prince. His eyes were filled with coldness. It was the kind of eyes that a hawk would have when about to strike it's prey.
" Goodnight, your highness," he said, as he stretched the bow string even more farther backwards and then...
Swooosh!
He released it.
The arrow travelled with the speed of sound, it's top tearing through the fabric of space as it had it's target in perfect lock.
" Sol!" Lora's voice immediately alerted him that something was wrong, but before he could react...
Thwip!
The arrow landed on target....but it wasn't Sol!
"Lora!"
He turned just in time to watch the arrowhead bloom from her stomach. It was meant for him—but she had taken it.
His heart immediately crumbled as he came face to face with the arrow that was meant for him embedded into her back, with the tip protruding out from her stomach.
" S-Sol," blood dripped out from the corners of her mouth as she fell down to her knees.
Immediately, Sol caught her and stopped her from falling, his eyes red as tears unceasingly flowed out from his eyes.
Rumble!
Thrunder crackeld in the sky, as if in remorse.
Thwip!
Another arrow was shot, and before it hit Sol, somehow, Lora's hands came out of nowhere with newfound energy, as it blocked the arrow from hitting Sol again, but she was unable to stop it from embedding itself into her palm.
Tears.
Tears.
And more tears.
He couldn't stop it, and soon it was almost as if Sol was crying in accordance to the rain dripping out from the sky.
" Lora," he whispered again, his voice hitched as he saw blood once more.
Thwip!
Thwip!
Thwip! Thwip!
.....
More arrows kept on falling from the sky, and just like every other time, Lora would somehow find strength to block it from hitting Sol.
He tried his best to try and push her away from further killing herself, but everytime he was unsuccessful and everytime, the arrows we're successful in hitting her.
Soon, the arrows on her body numbered up to seventeen.
She was dying, and nothing could save her now.
NOOO! NO! NO! NOOOOOO!
LORA PLEASE!!
Sol kept on crying, as he buried his head into her blood soaked body. He couldn't stop it, and as if in mockery of him, Henry turned around.
" He's already broken, let us leave. He wouldn't last long before he died anyways, " Henry said with an evil smile, as he left the tower, closely followed by the Archer and swordsman.
....
Under the gloomy sky of the kingdom, rain unceasingly poured out from the heavens like the endless tears of a man for his lover.
" Sol, stop crying. You look ugly when you cry," Lora, even with seventeen arrows in her body somehow was able to land a smile on her pale and beautiful face.
" D- don't say anything. You'll be fine. I'll get you to a physician. Just stay with me. Don't go!" He sobbed some more, raising her body in a princess carry and was about to leave, when her soft hand brushed on his face.
He turned his head to look at her, tears unrelentingly flowing from his eyes. He saw her shaking her head.
" Sol, don't take me anywhere. Just stay here with me. I want to ask you a question," she said weakly, her face becoming even more pale as blood slowly dripped out of her body.
Sol didn't say anything, the only answer to her words were more tears as he nodded slightly.
" Sol, who am I to you?" Her words were weak and low, but he clearly heard it, even if it was drowned by thunder.
He looked deeply into her dimming eyes as he stopped his tears," you're the love of my life. You're my wife,"
She smiled. Both with happiness and regret.
She was happy that he called her his wife, but she was sad that she wouldn't get to spend anymore time with him.
" Sol, kiss me. I've always wanted to share my first kiss with you,"
And without saying another word, he placed his lips gently on hers, interlocking their tongues as the taste of love and sorrow mixed with regret and blood filled their mouths. Lora felt her heart pounding with his, as she became lost of breath.
The kiss lasted for a few seconds, but by the time he let go of her lips, she no longer breathed.
