Lucas stood completely still, barely even breathing.

He was hiding in the shadows just outside the castle gate, and luckily, the two guards at the entrance only glanced in his direction briefly. They didn't notice him and soon turned their heads away, resuming their original posts.

"Just as I thought... these guards are on high alert," Lucas thought. "This is a stealth assassination mission. It wouldn't be a challenge if they were deaf and blind."

He narrowed his eyes, analyzing the situation calmly. "They must have a certain detection range. If I get too close, even with stealth active, they'll sense me."

To test this theory, Lucas didn't move for a full minute. He watched carefully. The guards weren't statues—they looked stiff at a glance, but if you paid attention, their eyes were darting around, scanning the area outside the gate.

"So, they're not as still as they appear," he muttered under his breath. "Let's put this to the test."

With half his stealth duration remaining, Lucas made his move. He crept sideways, approaching one of the guards from an angle.

Twenty meters
 fifteen
 ten
 five

Suddenly, one of the guards turned his head sharply toward Lucas.

"I've been spotted!" Lucas thought, alarmed. "So five meters is the limit. Any closer and they can detect me even while I'm invisible."

Instead of panicking or retreating, Lucas dashed forward with lightning speed. Before the guard could raise his spear, Lucas struck twice with his twin daggers.

833!

8214!

Two massive damage numbers floated above the guard's head. He collapsed instantly.

Lucas's new Level 20 gear had greatly increased his attack power—his output had nearly doubled since the first time he entered a nightmare-level dungeon.

Before the second guard could react or shout for help, Lucas activated his Level 20 skill—Backstab!

In the blink of an eye, he appeared behind the second guard, plunging his dagger into the man's vital spot.

A huge 20,000-damage figure popped up. The second guard didn't even have time to scream before dropping dead.

"Not bad," Lucas said, flicking blood off his dagger. "That was a good test. I've got more than enough damage to complete this mission."

He could tell now that he didn't need to play it safe. Even without stealth, his damage output was enough to overwhelm the enemies.

"Hiding isn't my style anyway," Lucas smirked. He had come out of stealth automatically after the battle, but if he'd just gone in swinging, he wouldn't even have needed that second strike.

With a bold grin, he pushed open the heavy wooden doors of the castle.

"Time to stop sneaking and start slaying. The mission officially begins now."

But the castle wasn't going to make things easy.

As soon as he stepped inside, two spears shot toward him from either side.

There had been two more guards waiting just behind the entrance, a trap meant for careless players.

Lucas didn't flinch. With swift, clean moves, he took down both guards before they could raise an alarm.

But just as he relaxed—

"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"

—one of the guards had already triggered the alert before dying.

From the corridors and rooms beyond, the sound of boots pounding against stone filled the castle.

More castle guards were coming. Dozens of them.

"So I've been discovered," Lucas muttered. Any normal player would be sweating by now. The right thing to do would be to retreat and try again later. Once alerted, the castle guards usually grouped up to overpower any intruder.

But Lucas wasn't just any assassin.

His mission wasn't to sneak in and stab a single target. It was to eliminate every guard in the castle.

"Perfect." He grinned darkly. "More enemies means less hunting for me."

As the footsteps drew near, Lucas stood in the glow of moonlight pouring through the doorway.

Daggers in both hands, arms outstretched, his silhouette looked like a phantom bathed in silver light.

"Come on, then," he said with a devilish smirk. "Let's make this a night they'll never forget."

The guards arrived in force. Spears raised, they charged without hesitation.

But Lucas's movements were like smoke and shadow—untraceable, unpredictable. He weaved through their formation, and every time he paused even for a split second, another guard fell lifeless to the floor.

One hit, one kill.

Ten seconds.

That was all it took.

The entire wave of castle guards was gone.

"This
" Lucas whispered, stepping over the bodies, "is how an assassin walks through the front door."

He laughed as he continued walking deeper into the castle halls. "If no one survives to tell the tale, then it still counts as an assassination, doesn't it?"

His cold, confident laughter echoed through the stone corridors.

This castle, drenched in darkness and history, was used to silence and shadows. But tonight, it had welcomed something else:

A hurricane dressed as a man.
