Chapter 251 - Equality of Sun and Moon

Liebe said, "What the hell is wrong with that guy?"

Abel said, "Just ignore him."

Hedin said, "Not like we can do anything."

Abel said, "Well, I guess we can practice combat or something."

Liebe said, "Sounds boring. How about we start our game now?"

Hedin said, "But how, exactly? We don't have a ball."

Liebe said, "Dark Magic: Dark Orb!" Liebe said, "Problem solved."

Abel said, "Cool. You literally just made what you needed from magic, and it's perfectly spherical."

Liebe said, "Thanks, but the bounciness might be a bit off. Well, nothing to do."

As they went to the ground floor and just played, Abel said, "You aren't bad."

Liebe said, "Thanks."

Abel said, "But somehow, I'm better." As he beat both Hedin and Liebe in soccer.

After a few minutes, Licht and Alysa were watching.

Licht said, "Should I tell him?"

Alysa said, "No. I love to watch. This moment is far too precious to ruin."

Licht said, "You just want to see him sweaty."

Alysa said, "Yeah, yeah, now shush. I'm watching."

Licht said, "Sorry I asked, but again, it's best to enjoy the moment."

Gaia also came and ended up joining the game. As they stopped, Abel said, "Who is she?"

Liebe said, "Our healer, but like a little sister."

Abel said, "Is that so?"

Professor Obsidian said, "Oh, a game of soccer? Interesting."

Licht said, "Looks like it."

Liebe said, "Sorry, sir."

Obsidian said, "It's all right. Looks like you are enjoying yourselves. Mind if I join in?"

Liebe said, "Sorry, sir, but are you serious?"

Obsidian said, "Of course. Since it's lunch time, I have nothing else to do. And I don't mind if young miss Gaia Morningstar joins us, too. And since it isn't matching, how about young Licht also joins us?"

Licht said, "Sure, sir."

Obsidian said, "So, the teams are simple. Team One is Liebe, Licht, and Hedin, while Team B is myself, Abel, and Mrs. Gaia. And Alysa, I certainly hope you don't mind being the referee."

Alysa said, "Of course, sir."

Obsidian took off his coat and rolled up his sleeves as they headed into their match.

Hedin said, "You sure, sir, are immature to join us and take it this seriously."

Obsidian said, "That's where you are wrong. You can take this as my second youth."

Liebe said, "Well, no point in holding back."

Obsidian said, "Uhh uhh, little Liebe said, 'Use magic.'"

Liebe said, "I don't plan to. Look, professor, 30 degrees. It's the principle."

Obsidian said, "Where?" As he looked, Liebe scored a goal.

Meanwhile, in the hallway, as Rayleigh stopped to see, Otiz stated, "So, you can actually look your pupils in the eyes."

Rayleigh said, "Why wouldn't I be?"

Otiz said, "After what you did, I didn't think it would be so easy for you."

Rayleigh said, "I don't consider half-breeds as pupils."

Otiz said, "Good luck with that."

Rayleigh said, "You are the one who should be ashamed for seeing them as humans."

Otiz said, "Knowing what kind of a person you are, I can assure you if you consider yourself a teacher, then you might as well consider terrorists as saints."

Rayleigh said, "Do whatever you want, but they can't be considered human. No point in wasting time on creatures forsaken by God."

Otiz said, "Of course. Good luck in your goal to cleanse the world from such creatures. Let's just hope someone doesn't come out of nowhere to show you the taste of earth."

Rayleigh said, "Say that again."

Otiz said, "Oh, sorry. Slip of the tongue."

As they continued to play, as the sun was setting, Obsidian said, "Guess it's been that late, huh?"

Licht said, "Well, sir, you were quite insistent when you lost."

Obsidian said, "Makes sense. Second, as fun as my second youth was, unfortunately, it will hurt worse in the morning."

Liebe said, "Possible."

Obsidian said, "You all wait right here. Give me a minute."

Liebe said, "Ok."

As Obsidian ran off, Licht said, "That was strange."

Alysa said, "I have to engrave every second of today into memory."

Licht said, "Please don't."

Gaia said, "That man is funny."

Liebe said, "Looks like it, but please be a bit more respectful."

Gaia said, "Ok, Liebe."

Liebe said, "That's more like it."

As Obsidian returned with a bunch of cans, he threw everyone a can.

Obsidian said, "I was able to get the good stuff. Soda really does hit the spot after a hard day."

Liebe said, "Can't argue with that, sir."

Licht said, "Teach me your wisdom."

Obsidian said, "Work hard, and then play a thousand times harder. That's the secret to dying young with a smile."

Alysa said, "I definitely needed this."

Obsidian said, "After how you were staring and sweating today, you are definitely dehydrated."

Alysa said, "You noticed, sir?"

Obsidian said, "Of course. You looked at him instead of the ball. And sorry, I was using mana resonance, but again, who wasn't?"

Abel, Hedin, and Gaia raised their hands.

Obsidian said, "No offence."

Liebe said, "Makes sense. Licht and I were doing the same."

Hedin said, "Can I ask a question?"

Obsidian said, "Of course."

Hedin said, "Why are you so kind to everyone, sir? Even half-breeds like us."

Liebe said, "Hedin."

Obsidian said, "That's easy, really. I'm far too lazy to consider who is what. Seems like a lot of unnecessary work to think that, isn't it?"

Liebe said, "It isn't really easy, now is it?"

Obsidian said, "You tell me. You have already experienced this first hand several times, young Liebe."

Liebe said, "I mean, yeah, I have, but that can't be all of it."

Obsidian said, "Well, it isn't. The unfortunate reality is that when you become a knight for the people, you won't live long. Most are fortunate to make it past 30, and retiring seems impossible. Every day, someone you know will be gone. That's the life true knights lead: fighting day in and night to protect the homes of civilians. In the middle of it all, you meet many people: nobles, royals, half-breeds, commoners. And you share battles through life and death, and at one point, while fighting, you lose the meaning of a tag. Who is royal or commoner, noble or half-breed? And if you get the chance to retire, you start trying to convince others of the same."

Hedin said, "But still, sir."

Obsidian said, "We all receive the light of the sun and moon equally, now don't we? That's the truth."

Liebe said, "When did you learn the truth, sir?"

Obsidian said, "Exactly 20 years, 3 months, 4 days, 2 hours, 19 minutes, and 7 seconds ago, when I lost my team. Every one of them, along with my heart. That moment, my only regret was not being able to say goodbye to her, not anything about her status or matter. And since she wanted to be a teacher here, I'm—"

Abel said, "So, that's why you are a teacher."

Obsidian said, "Of course not. That was her dream, not mine. And I thought about it. I'm an educator, not a teacher. That's my path, so that when I die, I can laugh at her and say, 'I was Hvíldarráð for my pupils,' and laugh at her for being able to live on."

Liebe said, "Sir, who exactly is Hvíldarráð?"

Obsidian said, "I'm sorry to state our class on youth ends here for now. So, please, save all your questions for the next demonstration class. Thank you. Now, bye."

Liebe said, "But we just reached the good part!"
