The following day, as Alysa, Liebe, Elizabeth, and Licht were leaving Lilith's office, they encountered Gabriel.
Gabriel said, "Good day, Vice Captain Licht—or should I say, former Vice Captain? What a joke. Look, it's the new Vice Captain and his dogs.
Oh wait—the Vice Captain himself is a hybrid, and the loyal dog of the captain."
Liebe replied, "Please kindly respect my subordinates, Mr. Gabriel."
Gabriel scoffed. "Do you really think a hybrid like you can speak to me as an equal?"
Liebe said calmly, "No. I think a hybrid like me can speak down to trash like you.
My loyalty is to the captain. And being her husband doesn't automatically make you worthy of that loyalty."
Gabriel growled, "We'll see about that," and walked off.
Afterward, Liebe entered his new office, with Elizabeth, Licht, and Alysa standing before him.
Licht said, "You dumbasses."
Liebe said, "Thanks."
Licht smirked, "Sure."
Liebe said, "As Vice Captain, there's a matter I want to investigate."
Licht asked, "What is it?"
Liebe said, "I'll need you two—Alysa and Elizabeth."
Alysa blinked. "Us? But where are we going?"
Liebe replied, "The Red Light District. That's where."
Alysa said, "The place where lust and prostitution rage on all night?"
Liebe said, "Yes, exactly."
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "Basically, you want to make us prostitutes?"
Liebe said, "No. I want to make you the servant of a prostitute."
Elizabeth groaned, "I never thought someone would ask me to serve beneath a prostitute, but here we are. What exactly are we investigating?"
Liebe answered, "I don't know exactly. But whenever I'm within a 20-kilometer radius of that place… I get a feeling.
It's like something in there is calling to me—pulling me in."
Licht said, "For me, it's the exact opposite. I feel like whatever happens, I have to avoid that place at all costs."
Elizabeth asked, "Did you inform the Captain?"
Liebe said, "I don't want to bother her. Not now, especially since she's pregnant. It wouldn't be right."
Everyone nodded. "Yes, sir."
Licht asked, "But what exactly are we investigating?"
Liebe replied, "A demon."
Licht said, "Dumbass. That whole place is full of demons."
Liebe said, "Do you know the difference between a normal demon and one from the Underworld?"
Licht said, "Yeah. They have black horns and a dark tail. That's it."
Liebe said, "Yes, but the one I'm planning to investigate has pale skin."
Licht's face paled. "No. God, no. That means—"
Liebe nodded. "Yes. It's a demon from the Underworld. Someone might have used forbidden magic to bring one here.
But crossing the border between worlds isn't easy."
Licht said, "If it's hiding in the Red Light District… it's feeding."
Alysa asked, "Feeding on what?"
Licht answered, "Lust. Anger. Sorrow. Hatred. All the negative emotions. And to grow even stronger—it'll start feeding on people themselves."
Liebe continued, "Demons from the Underworld aren't like the demons from here. They feed on negative emotions—and sometimes the people producing them.
They don't respond to words or reason. They're beyond that. If we let one roam freely in a place like the Red Light District… it'll eventually grow stronger than even the Captain."
Alysa asked, "When do we start?"
Liebe said, "Tomorrow."
