Chapter 364 - Chapter 364: Forging the Puppet

Xiao Yan possessed several puppet refinement techniques, most of which he had brought with him from the Dou Qi Continent. Although he wasn't certain whether they would work in the Great Thousand World, his logic was simple—since his Dou Techniques and cultivation methods were still effective here, then puppet crafting should be no different. Besides, the physical body of a Heavenly Sovereign was incomparably tough. Even if the process failed, it wouldn't be a total loss. He could just try a different approach.

At the moment, Xiao Yan still lacked sufficient means to confront true Heavenly Sovereign-level enemies. Though he had the Dragonbone Guard and the Battle Will Flame, the former wasn't yet fully under his control, and the latter had only one use left. Once it was consumed, it would be gone forever. Under such circumstances, possessing a Heavenly Sovereign-grade puppet would dramatically improve his safety.

While the Tianluo Continent didn't appear to be under the influence of any known Heavenly Sovereign, it was still one of the ten great supercontinents, likely teeming with hidden experts. Even though Xiao Yan had enough confidence to challenge a Perfect Earth Sovereign, it was best not to underestimate the unknown. Hence, he began seriously considering the creation of a powerful puppet.

Fortunately, over the past weeks, he had looted numerous treasures, among which were some of the required materials. As for the remainder, he planned to gather them en route to Tianluo Continent. Luckily, he still had plenty of Sovereign Spiritual Liquid on hand, so he didn't need to worry about financial constraints. Otherwise, he might've had to rob the auction houses scattered across the continents.

This time, Xiao Yan didn't choose the Heavenly Demon Puppet method he typically used. Instead, he adopted a technique known as the Ancient Human Puppet, which required forcibly extracting a soul and implanting it into a puppet. This granted the puppet a certain level of sentience and the ability to wield divine arts or magical abilities. It was a rather mysterious and powerful method.

Xiao Yan naturally didn't have any spare souls lying around, but the divine artifacts he carried—such as the Spirit of the Ancestral Stone—had all developed spiritual consciousness. When the time came, he could simply implant those spiritual bodies into the puppet to produce the same effect as an Ancient Human Puppet. What he needed to focus on now was refining the puppet's body to perfection.

A few days before reaching Tianluo Continent, Xiao Yan finally gathered all the required materials. It had cost him nearly tens of millions in Sovereign Spiritual Liquid. He dove into the Heavenly Tomb and laid out everything he had collected over this period, then let out a long breath.

The materials were exceedingly expensive, many of them rare metals that could easily be used to craft Saint Artifacts. Infusing these metals into the corpse of Long Nixian would significantly elevate the puppet's power. Although these metals were extremely tough, melting them posed no challenge for Xiao Yan, who wielded the Emperor Flame.

While melting down the materials with full effort, Xiao Yan also began refining the corpse in front of him. The refining process wasn't short. If he hadn't already stepped into the Earth Sovereign realm and possessed the Emperor Flame, it might have taken him a year or more just to temper the body. Even with his advantages, it still took him over a month to refine Long Nixian's skeletal remains to his desired standard.

"That should do it." With a flick of his finger, Xiao Yan poured the liquefied metals over Long Nixian's corpse, coating every inch of it. Under the influence of the liquid metals, the corpse turned a smooth, jade-like white—resembling a flawless statue.

Once the transformation was complete, Xiao Yan formed a series of intricate seals with his fingers. A strand of soul imprint separated from his forehead and merged into Long Nixian's body. As the imprint fused, Long Nixian's eyes slowly opened. However, they bore no trace of life—only empty, soulless voids.

"You actually pulled it off…" the Spirit of the Ancestral Stone exclaimed in astonishment as it looked at the newly awakened puppet. "A Heavenly Sovereign-grade puppet—this is something not even ancient clans might be able to produce!"

"It's only a partial success," Xiao Yan said with a tinge of regret, shaking his head. "This guy doesn't seem to possess the full strength he had in life." In life, Long Nixian had been at the Immortal-grade Heavenly Sovereign level, but this puppet only displayed the power of a Spiritual-grade Heavenly Sovereign. And that was after Xiao Yan had infused it with countless precious resources. Without them, it was uncertain whether the puppet could even be considered Heavenly Sovereign-level.

"A Spiritual-grade Heavenly Sovereign is already quite remarkable," the Ancestral Stone Spirit said reassuringly. "After all, your puppet crafting methods originate from a lower plane. Typically, puppets are far weaker than they were in life. Besides, this guy's body is that of an Immortal-grade divine beast. With your enhancements, even an Immortal-grade Heavenly Sovereign might not be able to defeat it easily."

Xiao Yan didn't doubt that. Still, he couldn't help but feel it was a bit of a waste. After all, obtaining a Heavenly Sovereign corpse was no easy feat, and not being able to fully utilize its potential was unfortunate. For some reason, his thoughts drifted to the creation method of the Dragonbone Guard. That method clearly surpassed any puppet technique he had used in the lower planes. Unfortunately, he didn't know how to replicate it.

"Wait… If I remember correctly, this kind of puppet can absorb thunder energy to enhance itself. Maybe someday…" The thought had just surfaced in his mind when Xiao Yan immediately dismissed it. After all, thunder powerful enough to strengthen a Heavenly Sovereign puppet was rare in the Great Thousand World. If he did encounter any, he'd probably need it to refine spiritual energy himself—there was no way he would waste it on a puppet.

However, he vaguely recalled a superpower in the Great Thousand World known as the Thunder God Palace, which was rumored to house vast amounts of thunder energy. If he could make a trip there, perhaps the puppet could be upgraded to Immortal-grade Heavenly Sovereign strength.

"Forget it. I'll worry about that later. For now, this is already a reliable companion. It should suffice for the Tianluo Continent." With a sigh, Xiao Yan casually stowed the puppet away. With a Heavenly Sovereign-level puppet by his side, he now had far more confidence in roaming the Great Thousand World.

Of course, he also knew better than to flaunt such a treasure recklessly. Unless absolutely necessary, it was best not to use the puppet. After all, even the superpowers of this world would be tempted by a Heavenly Sovereign puppet. If word spread, his future might once again descend into a familiar cycle of pursuit and escape.
