At that very moment within the Hun Clan, Hun Dai'er—who had been secluded in cultivation—also sensed that Xiao Yan had finally returned. Of course, unlike Xiao Chen who could sense it via his Dou Di bloodline, she had no such innate link. Instead, she relied on a special external item that allowed her to monitor Xiao Yan's every move in real time.
In her possession was a crystal relic left behind from the ancient era. In terms of classification, it was undoubtedly a divine artifact, though it wasn't made for combat. Its function was surveillance. Once activated, it could observe anything happening to any person on the Dou Qi Continent—even a Dou Di expert could be spied on. However, the moment a Dou Di was targeted, they would immediately sense something was amiss.
In her previous life, Hun Dai'er had relied on this artifact's unique ability to track Xiao Yan persistently, allowing her to lay countless traps and ambushes. In the end, she even intercepted him at the Peak of Annihilation.
However, using this thing wasn't simple. It had harsh prerequisites for both strength and bloodline purity. One had to reach at least Five-Star Dou Zun and possess a divine-tier bloodline; otherwise, the crystal would show nothing. If not for those limitations, she would have used it much earlier in this lifetime to track him down.
Through rigorous cultivation, Hun Dai'er had finally broken through to the Five-Star Dou Zun level. Compared to Xiao Yan—or even to the women in his "harem"—her pace was certainly slower. But considering that she was only sixteen years old, achieving the Dou Zun level was nothing short of monstrous—so long as no one compared her to that freak, Xiao Yan.
After all, Xiao Yan's cultivation path was beyond human. And as for Qing Lin, Xiao Yixian, and the others, their unique constitutions granted them talent on par with divine-tier bloodlines.
Especially after Xiao Yan established the Heavenly Demon Phoenix Slaughterhouse, Xiao Yixian and company had been bathing in Ancient Phoenix blood, sipping Phoenix bone marrow broth, and roasting Phoenix wings every day. These divine resources rapidly improved both constitution and Dou Qi cultivation. With that kind of support—and top-tier techniques—anyone could soar to the heavens.
In contrast, Hun Dai'er's resources were pitiful. Although she was now the Hun Clan leader, the clan's top alchemists had been killed by Xiao Yan, and their heavenly treasures completely looted. Aside from basic provisions, the Hun Clan was now impoverished.
Worse yet, due to the self-imposed isolation of the Hun Clan, they couldn't even venture out to gather more resources. This half-year had been incredibly trying. Many in the clan were growing restless, but any discontent was swiftly crushed. Hun Dai'er, however, didn't care. In fact, she wondered if she'd been too merciful—perhaps it was time for a purge.
Now that her strength met the requirements, Hun Dai'er eagerly brought out the crystal. Yet when she infused it with Dou Qi, the crystal remained completely inert. That was understandable—after all, Xiao Yan hadn't been on the Dou Qi Continent at the time. He'd been in another plane, decades ahead in the timeline. No matter how powerful the artifact was, it couldn't observe someone across planes and timelines.
At first, Hun Dai'er thought the artifact might have broken. But when she tested it on someone else, it worked flawlessly. Clearly, the crystal wasn't the issue. The problem was with Xiao Yan.
Normally, when a target couldn't be observed, it meant only one thing: they were dead—and thoroughly so. But Hun Dai'er refused to believe that. In her mind, Xiao Yan was the cockroach of fate. Even if he fell into lava before her eyes, he'd likely resurface later doing the backstroke.
Moreover, he was a peak Dou Sheng. Who on this continent could possibly kill him?
So for the past six months, Hun Dai'er had poured Dou Qi into the crystal whenever she had spare time, hoping for a glimpse of Xiao Yan. But she was met with disappointment again and again. Her own cultivation reached peak Dou Zun in the meantime, but the crystal remained dark.
Today, just as she was about to set the crystal aside and resume her training, it suddenly lit up for the first time in half a year. And then, a projection of Xiao Yan appeared.
What annoyed her, however, was that he wasn't alone. Sitting across from him was a woman whose face felt oddly familiar to her.
"Is that… the Heavenly Poison Woman?"
Hun Dai'er narrowed her eyes.
She remembered this woman. In her previous life, the Heavenly Poison Woman had also been part of the Hall of Souls and was among those assigned to hunt Xiao Yan. She'd given him quite a bit of trouble before suddenly disappearing—presumably due to her body's outbreak of the Woeful Poison Body, which had likely killed her.
So how was she now sitting cozily with Xiao Yan?
'Hmm?' Hun Dai'er's thoughts were interrupted when she noticed Xiao Yan suddenly raise his head and glance around, as if sensing something. For a split second, she felt as though he'd detected her peeking.
But she quickly dismissed the idea.
This crystal was a divine artifact from ancient times. Unless Xiao Yan had already become a Dou Di, it was impossible for him to sense its gaze.
As for Xiao Yan becoming a Dou Di?
Hun Dai'er scoffed inwardly. Impossible. The Origin Qi at the Peak of Annihilation was in her hands. Without the Tou She Ancient Emperor Jade, he had no way to open the Ancient Emperor's mausoleum.
So she was certain—Xiao Yan hadn't noticed anything.
"What's wrong, Xiao Yan?" Xiao Yixian, sitting opposite him, tilted her head curiously.
"Nothing," he replied with a smile. "Just thinking about when we first met. I never imagined we'd become friends back then."
"Mm…" A soft smile appeared on Xiao Yixian's lips. But what she recalled wasn't their first meeting—it was their reunion in that quiet valley, after she had discovered her Woeful Poison Body. At her most desperate and lonely moment, it had been Xiao Yan who brought warmth and hope back into her life…
'So… just friends, huh?' Hun Dai'er let out a small sigh of relief.
'Of course. There's no way Xiao Yan would like that type of woman. I'm overthinking it.'
But then… something felt off.
'If they're just friends, why are they taking off their clothes?'
