Sphinx's office was exactly as you'd expect it. Ancient Egyptian figurines lined his desk. In his window was a trio of deck boxes with flashy art and shiny exterior.
"I was wondering when you'd come by." He was sorting some cards on his desk. "Come in. Take a seat."
I did. His seats were so uncomfortable, I decided to stand up instead.
"Before I give you a reward, I have a few questions for you."
I gulped. "This isn't another quiz, is it?"
He laughed. "Perhaps."
I decided to sit down.
"How long have you been playing KING'S RULE?"
"Two months."
"And yet you know so much about the game. How is that possible?"
I gulped. Then I told him the truth. "As soon as I got into the game, I found myself addicted. This whole summer, I've done nothing but log hours at an LGS. It was there that i was sponsored by-"
"Dont care!" he hissed. "I've heard all I need to know. My next question is what decks do you play? I think I heard you say you got sorted into Wizard, but that's not much to go off of."
I frowned. "Can't you tell by pulling up my results from the sorting test?"
He shook his head. "Only Headmaster Hail has access to the results of those."
"Oh." recalled how he mentioned Headmaster Hail was judging a tourney. I wondered if it was the same tourney the kids from Sorcerer were attending. "I play a Nimueh deck and a Hundred Handed One deck."
His brows raised. "There are only three Hundred Handed Ones decks printed. Briares, Gygus and Cottus. How on earth did you get your hands on one?"
"My sponsor. He owns all three. When he saw me playing at the LGS, he donated it to me."
Sphinx rolled his eyes. "I guess I'll ask. Who is your sponsor?"
When I told him, his ear to ear grin returned. "Really? He must have liked you."
"I hope so."
Sphinx found that funny. "One last and final question. I promise you I'll give you your reward before you answer. But tell me, how do you feel about having a game in the next few minutes?"
I gasped. I hadn't played a game all day! "When?"
"As soon as you leave my office, I can escort you to your opponent." he said through his grin.
He reached into his drawer and slid a card across his desk. I took it and stared at it. For the first time all day, a devilish grin spread across my face. "Can I add this before the match?"
"Of course." he grinned back.
