I got back home to see mum kneeling on the ground outside the mansion. I scoffed, my heart rate increasing with every step I took closer to her. She noticed my presence and turned her head to face my direction. Her face was soaked in tears, she had cried her eyes out.
"Why did you do it?"
"Do what, mum?" I asked defensively. I don't think the news would have quickly reached them.
Before my mum could respond, my grandma stormed out of the house. "You ratchet girl! Are you trying to ruin the image I have built for 58 years?" Her words were followed by a resounding slap.
I burst into tears. "Is that enough reason for you to have my mother on her knees knowing her condition? Do you not also have any conscience?"
I was hurt and tired of everything. But seeing my mum in that state, in front of the guards and the maids and even that wretched Felicia and her daughter. How could grandma be so heartless?
"You think that means anything to me? Your face is all over the news. You dare to mess around on your engagement day? Do you think that will stop you from getting married?"
I remained silent. Memories of how I woke up won't stop flashing through my head and hearing her talk about it kills me even more. I made the biggest mistake of my life thanks to this witch. I hope at least it would be worth something now by making Theodore stop his crazy son from marrying me, if not I might just die.
"Yes. It will stop me from getting married. I will not marry a crazy man and end up like my mother did, enduring so much torture from someone like you." I answered through tears.
Her face changed into a big frown, and she slapped me again. My mum rushed up to stop her attack but she pushed her to the ground, and tried slapping me again. I caught her hand in the air, and threw it aside. "Enough grandma! Enough!"
Sniffling I ran to my mother who was hurt from the push and helped her up.
My grandma scoffed "If you don't get married to Theodore's crazy son. You and your mum would get out of this house. And you won't leave with even a pin."
"Yes, grandma. We would leave. Nothing here is worth holding onto anyway."
"No, No. We can't leave! Violet please. We can't leave. Who would take care of your father. I would never be able to see him again." She looked helpless, like she had looked for the past 20 years.
"Mum can you please stop. Wake up please! How can you keep loving a man who ruined you to this state. It's time to let go, mum."
"No, No. I will never let go of Sebastian." She shook her head back and forth. Her hair scattered over her face.
She lost her mind the day she found out he had married another woman. Some days she comes around, some days she's in her bubble, only mumbling my father's name, Sebastian. A cursed name that didn't just ruin her but has now ruined me.
"I wonder what is so bad about marrying a crazy man when you have an experience with one already." My grandma muttered and turned on her heel as she strode into the house.
I stared in rage, hoping she falls and dies.
"No, Vi, Please. If I don't see him I will kill myself no." My gaze shifts back to my mother.
I cried silently, as I stared at the helpless woman.
______
Theodore didn't cancel my wedding with his son even after hearing the news. He instead had the articles taken down from every site, and flagged it as a rumor, promising jail time to whoever circulated such news. I wonder how crazy his son has to be for him to not mind the fact that his wife to be was in a hotel with another man.
Now the wedding was happening even sooner than expected. My mind wants to run far away from here, but my mother would never go with me, and I would also never leave her here alone.
I heard a knock on the door and immediately pretended to be asleep. After a few seconds I heard my uncle's voice.
"Vi, come on. I know you are not asleep."
I sighed and removed the duvet from my head.
"How are you feeling?"
All my life, uncle Pete is the only one who has asked me that question and meant it genuinely. It's funny because he was dad's younger brother but he was so different from him. He was kind, and the only person who truly looked out for me and mum.
"Fine." I sighed
"I know what you mean when you say that. I heard about what happened and I am very sorry I wasn't around to.." He sighed and looked at me.
Exactly. Even though he was around there wasn't much he could have possibly done. Grandma never showed him love, and made it obvious Sebastian was her favorite son. It was only after he had a stroke she started letting uncle Pete handle the major affairs in her company.
"It's fine uncle. Thank you. Will you be present at the introduction dinner today?"
"Not at all. I wish I could but I will be at the office sorting a few things. I am so sorry." He patted my hand.
I nodded and forced a smile. I was having an introduction dinner today where all families meet. So that meant the so called psycho to be husband of mine would be present. I wish I could talk him out of the marriage even though he is also being forced to do so.
