Instead of responding, Apollonia handed Perris a small, slender bottle filled with clear liquid.
Perris extended a trembling hand to accept it.
“What is… this?” he asked.
“What do you think it is?” Apollonia replied with indifference, her gaze urging Perris on.
His focus returned to the glass bottle, and as he slowly uncorked it, a peculiar scent wafted out.
‘So it’s poison.’
He realized that Apollonia had offered him poison as a means to end his life, instead of having him beheaded, whether from a last-minute act of compassion or at Amoretta’s request.
“…Very well, then.”
Perris took a deep breath and swallowed the entire contents of the bottle, feeling the bitter taste all the way down his throat.
“Aaah…”
Perris exhaled, his breath escaping his body.
His vision blurred, and soon enough, he collapsed onto the field.
His throat throbbed with pain as he clenched his lips tightly to endure the agony.
