Rustle.
Apollonia and Uriel were taken aback by the rustling sound that reached their ears. It was undeniably the distinct sound of approaching footsteps, near enough to eavesdrop on their conversation.
A sense of puzzlement enveloped them—after all, who would be wandering around the detached palace at this hour? They had already ensured that Petra and her spies were nowhere to be found in the vicinity.
Uriel looked around sharply and soon threw himself behind Apollonia, straight into the bush behind her.
“Urgh!”
A curt cry was followed by Uriel dragging out a small boy with black hair. The boy appeared fearful, attempting to escape, but Uriel paid no heed and forcefully threw him before Apollonia.
“Let go! Wha-what do you think you’re…”
