“He’s gone now. You’re wholly free from him and even Petra Liepherr met her end right before my eyes,” Nox reiterated.
It was evident that the person Adrianne had been trying to avoid was Gareth, the man who had relentlessly pursued her.
“So, I simply thought that there was no reason for you not to desire the restoration of your reputation now. I didn’t intend anything beyond that,” Nox explained earnestly. He meant every word he said.
He added, trying to be considerate, “But if you have no intention of getting married, then there’s no need for me to help you win the affections of other men.”
The moment Nox finished speaking, a complex yet subtle smile graced Adrianne’s lips. At first glance, it appeared to be an amused smile, but seeing her serious eyes, it became evident that the smile was tinged with cynicism.
