Eitan froze when he saw the tears in her eyes, which made him shift uncomfortably on his feet. What in the world was he supppsed to say to console her?
"...She wrote you a letter," he started slowly, as he gauged her reaction. "before she left."
Ava pursed her lips. After some seconds, she wiped at her eyes with the back of her hand. "You're terrible at consoling people." She told him, making his lips twitch slighly. When she saw that, her shoulders slumped. "S–sorry."
"It's fine." Eitan said, letting out a breath.
"Where's the letter? Can I see it now?"
Eitan shook his head, and when Ava opened her mouth to protest, he held up a hand. "Listen to me carefully. Giving you that letter now would make you more disoriented than you already are."
Ava seemed to deflate at his words, but he continued. "And I can't afford that. You at least have to look a bit presentable when I take you to the marriage registry today."
