Chapter 54
“The train to Thisse departs momentarily!” a voice rang out, jolting Chloe from her thoughts. Startled, she leaned forward to peer out the window.
After the performance, Damien had hurriedly ushered her into a private carriage, citing urgent business that required his attention. When she inquired where he was going, he wore a serious expression, explaining that while he knew she could not stand to be apart from him for even a moment, he needed to attend to some matters that had gone awry. His words had left her feeling somewhat sheepish.
Chloe hastily closed the carriage door and ventured alone to the train station. The issue was that Damien was still nowhere to be seen.
Why isn’t he here yet?
As the train was about to depart, the station master, who was wearing a round blue hat, stepped into the compartment.
“Has His Grace not arrived yet?” he asked.
“My apologies. He assured me he would be here on time…”
