“Do I?” Chloe whispered, her smile as faint as a candle flickering in the wind. Her face began to tremble. Only after a moment did Damien become aware of his own hand on her cheek quivering.
Damn it.
Damien tightened his grip. Upon reflection, he realized it was not his habit to initiate such intimacy with a woman. Yet in her presence, his body seemed to act on its own accord, longing to pull her close.
“You said we were married,” he stated, seeking confirmation.
“Yes.”
This, then, must be muscle memory. “Did we marry out of love?”
