"After this period of combat, we've already figured out the enemy's attack frequency. That's why I recalled Ushiwakamaru and Benkei at this time."
Facing the boundless sea of monsters ahead, Leonidas I spoke with the seriousness expected of a commander. His explanation was directed at Shirou Emiya, clear and steady.
"So it's time to fight, right?"
Shirou Emiya rolled his shoulders and stretched his body. One foot came to rest on the edge of the city wall.
"It's been a long time since I fought in an environment like this. Today, I'll have a good fight."
The last time he had experienced something similar-surrounded by endless monsters-was in the DanMachi world. Aside from facing the Orc Lord in Rimuru's world, that expedition had been the most memorable.
The fifty-ninth floor of the dungeon.
A truly hellish place.
"Compared to that, these ones are nothing."
Just as Shirou Emiya was about to leap forward, he paused. He turned his head slightly and looked at Shuna beside him.
"I made a promise with Ritsuka Fujimaru and the others. If they call me, I'll go save them."
He added another sentence, calm and direct.
"If I suddenly disappear from the battlefield later, don't think I'm dead."
"I understand, Lord Shirou."
Shuna nodded immediately. She understood his meaning at once.
She was well aware of the effects of Shirou Emiya's authority. Once the ability known as "Wind" activated, his figure would vanish in an instant. If he disappeared suddenly in the middle of battle without warning, everyone would assume he had fallen.
"Good that you understand."
With that, Shirou Emiya pushed off the wall.
His body cut through the air and plunged straight into the monster horde below.
...
The impact was heavy.
Shirou Emiya crashed directly into the center of the monster horde, his descent carving out a deep crater in the ground. Monsters caught beneath him were torn apart instantly, their bodies no longer recognizable. The shockwave from the impact rippled outward, blasting nearby monsters away like debris.
"Come on."
Standing in the crater, Shirou Emiya calmly beckoned to the monsters around him. His gaze swept across them, his eyes carrying a trace of nostalgia.
"Roar!"
As lives born under Tiamat's authority, these monsters possessed intelligence and their own form of communication. Shirou Emiya's relaxed attitude only enraged them further. With furious roars, the surrounding monsters surged toward him.
"Good. Heh."
A monster charged straight at him. Shirou Emiya grabbed its tusk mid-rush and swung it like a weapon, smashing it into the first wave of attackers. Then he lifted the monster in his hand and slammed it hard into the ground.
In an instant, shattered flesh and blood splashed across the area.
But the assault didn't stop.
With the first wave as a signal, the monsters launched an endless attack. One after another, they leaped at Shirou Emiya, piling toward him, trying to pin him down through sheer numbers.
They didn't get the chance.
Each monster that pounced was met with a single blow. A punch. A kick.
And that was enough.
Enough to reduce them to pieces.
When Shirou Emiya ascended to LV.8, he had gained a new ability.
Shatter.
Its effect was simple and direct. It amplified the destructive power of his fists and kicks.
Not penetration.
Destruction.
If the old Shirou Emiya punched a wall, his arm would simply pass through it, leaving a hole behind. The wall would still stand.
Now, if he punched a wall, the entire structure would collapse into fragments.
That was the difference.
That was Shatter.
Under that overwhelming force, the surrounding monsters had no resistance at all. They were pulverized the moment they were struck. Blood sprayed continuously through the air, splattering across the battlefield and dyeing the ground around Shirou Emiya in a deep, iron-red hue.
Punch.
Punch.
Punch.
Kick.
Kick.
Kick.
Shirou Emiya used both his hands and his feet, moving without pause. Monsters poured in endlessly, and he harvested their lives just as steadily.
Even so, despite the precision of his movements, he couldn't avoid everything.
Against Heretic Gods, his fists and kicks had already reached a divine realm. But against these fluid-like monsters, sheer numbers still mattered.
A monster slipped through his range.
Its jaws clamped down on his arm.
The creature bit down hard, its teeth grinding as it tried to tear the limb off. It struggled with everything it had.
And quickly fell into despair.
Because Shirou Emiya's arm didn't move.
Not even a little.
The monster's teeth couldn't sink into his skin. They couldn't even break it. Aside from torn fabric, there wasn't a single wound.
"Done biting?"
Shirou Emiya reached out with his free hand and grabbed the monster by the head. He pulled it off his arm with a sharp motion and smashed it into the ground.
"Then get lost."
The impact crushed the monster instantly.
"You bit through my clothes, you fool!"
Beneath the shredded fabric, his skin was completely unharmed.
This was Shirou Emiya's durability.
In the DanMachi world, powerful adventurers were known for their toughness and vitality. That strength came from durability, honed through countless battles.
Now, under the blessing of that same durability, even if the monster horde clawed and tore at him endlessly, they still couldn't break through his body.
"Average LV.3."
Shirou Emiya felt the attacks landing against him and calmly evaluated them.
"That's a bit too weak."
Individually, the monsters were strong. But most of them hovered around LV.3 at best. There were stronger ones mixed in, but the average level was clear.
To Shirou Emiya, this was nothing more than the standard strength found on the lower floors of the dungeon.
It wasn't enough to make him take them seriously.
"But this is already very strong."
He didn't deny it.
"These monsters are probably just ordinary people among the new humans created by Tiamat."
That thought made his expression settle.
"The Creator Goddess Tiamat..."
He exhaled quietly.
"...is truly terrifying."
With that realization, Shirou Emiya became even more cautious about the enemy waiting behind these monsters.
But for now, that wasn't his concern.
"But first, I still need to deal with you."
The monsters continued to surge forward, only to be crushed. But as Shirou Emiya realized they couldn't even damage him, his initial excitement faded.
Combat required opposition.
A struggle.
A one-sided slaughter was nothing more than a massacre.
And massacres weren't enjoyable.
"Then let's finish this quickly."
Shirou Emiya raised his hand.
A golden spear formed within his grasp.
At the same time, flames ignited.
They spread outward from his body in a terrifying wave, devouring everything in their path. The fire surged across the battlefield, swallowing monsters whole.
In just a few moments, there was no life left around him.
Only ashes.
From the distant city wall, the scene was unmistakable. A large section of the once-dense monster horde had been completely wiped out, leaving behind an empty, scorched patch.
It was overwhelming.
"Lord Emiya! Long live!"
Cheers erupted from the city wall, voices overlapping as soldiers shouted their praise.
On the battlefield, Shirou Emiya turned his gaze toward the monsters still gathering in the distance.
His voice was cold.
"Now."
"It's time for work."
