"I've come for our appointment, Verethragna!"
A clear voice cut through the night, spreading outward and echoing again and again. Almost immediately, a fierce wind swept through the area, and Verethragna's figure manifested before Shirou Emiya.
"Ah! The time has finally come, Godslayer!"
"That's right," Shirou Emiya replied evenly. "I've been looking forward to this battle for a long time."
Their gazes met.
In that instant, firm wills collided silently in the void. No weapons had been drawn, yet sparks seemed to leap into existence, spreading invisibly through the air.
This was a continuation.
And it was also a beginning.
This was no longer the chaotic three-way melee of the past. There were no interruptions, no third party, no confusion. This was a far more direct confrontation.
A Godslayer.
A Heretic God.
Two existences with completely different destinies would decide life and death here.
"I truly didn't expect it," Verethragna said, his tone heavy with emotion. "You actually defeated that God King and seized his authority."
He paused briefly.
"Although my injury back then was the result of his sneak attack, that too was a manifestation of his strength."
"That God King was not an opponent who could be easily defeated."
His eyes narrowed.
"But now, he is dead."
Hearing Mekal mentioned, Shirou Emiya smiled faintly.
"Although deicide itself is an act of folly," he said calmly, "who would willingly draw their sword against a god without preparation?"
"Those who do are usually dragged into it."
He looked directly at Verethragna.
"I had a complete plan for dealing with you from the very beginning."
"Is that so?"
Verethragna laughed loudly.
"It seems you're not only a powerful warrior, but also a wise sage!"
As the laughter faded, something else began to rise.
Their 咒力-Juryoku-surged violently.
Invisible pressure expanded outward, pressing down on the land. The surrounding air seemed to solidify, growing heavy and oppressive.
Far away, Liliana suddenly clutched her chest.
"So... this is a Godslayer and a Heretic God," she said, struggling to steady her breathing.
The sensation was unbearable.
It felt as though her heart were being squeezed directly.
Beside her, the other two were no better.
"To be honest," Shuna said quietly, "this is the first time I've felt something like this."
"When Lord Shirou fought those two Heretic Gods before, I didn't feel this pressure."
She looked into the distance, her eyes shining with pride.
"It seems Lord Shirou's strength has increased tremendously since becoming a Godslayer."
In the distance, the two figures stood unmoving.
Juryoku continued to climb.
Their auras clashed relentlessly.
For a brief moment, it was as if time itself had come to a halt.
But this was only the calm before eruption.
With a sharp rupture of air, two figures burst forward at the same time, exceeding the limits of wind resistance as they raised their fists.
Boom!
Iron fists collided.
The atmosphere exploded instantly.
A violent storm surged outward from the point of impact, compressing the surrounding terrain as if trying to flatten everything in its path.
And this was only the beginning.
Using that collision as a prelude, Shirou Emiya and Verethragna launched into pure hand-to-hand combat.
Punch.
Punch.
Punch.
Kick.
Kick.
Kick.
There was no hesitation.
No retreat.
Every strike connected.
Shirou Emiya drove a heavy punch into Verethragna's face, the impact nearly smashing him into the ground. But in the next moment, Verethragna stabilized himself. Exploiting the brief opening created by Shirou Emiya's attack, he retaliated with a powerful punch to the abdomen.
Pfft!
Shirou Emiya spat out a mouthful of blood.
But he didn't retreat.
Instead, he leaned forward, using the momentum of the blow to swing his arm like a whip. His fist lashed out again toward Verethragna's face.
This time, it was blocked.
"I won't fall twice in the same place."
"Then try this."
Shirou Emiya's other fist shifted mid-air, transforming into a gripping hand that seized Verethragna's arm. He stepped in and drove a knee strike directly into Verethragna's abdomen.
The War God was sent flying.
"Is this it?" Shirou Emiya wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. "Is this really all you've got?"
"Are you seriously a God of War?"
The mockery rang out clearly.
Verethragna gave a disdainful smile.
"Godslayer," he said calmly, "provocation won't work on me."
Then his expression sharpened.
"Still, your bravery truly exceeds my expectations."
"After becoming our sworn enemy, it seems not only your physical abilities, but even your martial arts have undergone a transformation."
"Maybe," Shirou Emiya replied with a faint smile.
He knew Verethragna was right.
Through the previous battles, his close-combat skills had fundamentally changed. The Pankration he had learned from Chiron had reached the divine realm.
That was also why he had chosen the authority of "Shattering."
He adjusted his stance.
Verethragna now stood without a single opening.
Earlier, Shirou Emiya had gained the upper hand only because Verethragna had underestimated his hand-to-hand ability.
That mistake wouldn't happen again.
"What a nuisance," Shirou Emiya muttered.
His blood burned.
His heartbeat accelerated.
At this moment, there was nothing else in his vision.
Only battle.
"Then come on!"
With a shout, Shirou Emiya charged again.
Verethragna met him head-on.
Their fists collided once more, and the mythical battle continued without pause.
...
"So this is what a battle between a Godslayer and a Heretic God looks like," Liliana said excitedly, pumping her fist again and again.
"It feels so passionate!"
"No," Erica replied calmly. "A normal deicide battle shouldn't look like this."
She watched the distant figures exchange blows.
"Battles between Godslayers and Heretic Gods are usually contests of authority."
"Hand-to-hand combat is rare."
"And even if one side wants it, the other usually won't allow it."
She paused.
"So this kind of fight can only happen when both sides are masters of close combat."
"And when they share a tacit understanding."
As Erica said, Shirou Emiya, an adventurer blessed by the gods, was naturally skilled in close combat.
Verethragna, as a War God, was no different.
The two had already exchanged blows during the earlier three-way battle. They had both tasted victory and defeat.
That battle, however, had been interrupted by God King Mekal before it could reach a conclusion.
Because of that, from the very beginning, they had both tacitly chosen hand-to-hand combat.
But both of them knew the truth.
This was only the appetizer.
The true feast of this battle had yet to begin.
