"Is that so?"
Shirou Emiya listened quietly before letting out a soft chuckle.
"To come alone to a country where you don't even speak the language. That's genuinely brave."
Hearing the praise, Godou Kusanagi looked slightly embarrassed.
Shirou Emiya meant it.
Those who became Campiones almost always possessed something admirable. Even in the original course of events, Godou Kusanagi-despite lacking kingly presence and constantly being pushed forward by circumstance-had been an excellent young man before becoming a Campione.
If it were Shirou from his previous life, traveling alone to a foreign country without knowing the language would have been unthinkable.
Just imagining it was enough to make his scalp tingle.
"Brave?" Godou shook his head gently, forcing a wry smile. "I was just dragged into it. I didn't really have a choice."
Then, after a pause, his expression softened.
"But now that I think about it... I'm grateful for that trip."
"If I hadn't gone, I wouldn't have seen the hidden world beneath the ordinary one."
"And I wouldn't have met him."
Verethragna.
The name surfaced unbidden.
The god who had already vanished.
Godou never would have imagined that the friend he met by the Italian seaside was, in truth, a god.
His gaze drifted to the scenery sliding past the window, thoughts slowly knotting together.
"We're almost there."
Shirou Emiya's voice pulled everyone back.
He smiled as he pointed ahead.
The house was already in sight.
They were riding in a stretched limousine-one projected by Shirou Emiya himself. As his strength had grown, his Projection Magecraft had evolved alongside it. Now, aside from living beings, he could project nearly anything.
The driver was Shuna.
After encountering vehicles, she had developed an enthusiasm bordering on obsession. Much like the "madam" from another world, she had fallen in love with them almost instantly. In half a day, someone who had never touched a vehicle before had become a competent driver.
Later, she had confidently volunteered to be Shirou Emiya's exclusive chauffeur.
Since then, cars had become his primary mode of transport.
Inside the limousine, Shirou Emiya and Godou Kusanagi sat in the back, chatting casually.
Across from them, Erica and Liliana sat straight-backed and composed, as if attending a formal lecture.
The contrast was oddly amusing.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
At Shirou Emiya's reminder, the two responded in unison.
As the limousine came to a smooth stop, Erica and Liliana exited first, taking their places on either side of the vehicle. Their posture was flawless, their expressions solemn as they welcomed Shirou Emiya.
Lucrezia was already waiting outside.
Stepping out, Shirou Emiya looked at the group around him and sighed quietly.
"Relax a little."
"I'm not some old geezer left over from feudal society."
"You're making me uncomfortable."
"That's right."
Little Rimuru climbed out from the passenger seat and smiled brightly.
"When Father was in the Monster Federation, he never put on airs. He was always very kind to his subordinates."
"Yes, we understand."
Hearing even Shirou Emiya's daughter say so, Erica and Liliana finally relaxed. The tension left their shoulders, their expressions softening.
Shirou Emiya nodded in satisfaction.
Then he walked inside.
...
"Hehe. So you're Ichiro's descendant?"
Lucrezia's smile was warm as she spoke.
"I received his letter already. I've been waiting for you."
Godou blinked.
"Ah... sorry. Who are you?"
He stared at the beautiful woman in front of him, completely blank.
When he had seen her earlier outside the car, he had assumed she was one of Shirou Emiya's subordinates.
"Oh my."
Lucrezia covered her mouth, eyes curving playfully.
"I'm the Lucrezia Zola you've been looking for."
"You're Miss Lucrezia?!"
Godou's voice rose without him realizing it.
He froze, staring at her in disbelief.
Shirou Emiya couldn't help laughing.
This was probably the humor born from the gap between the ordinary world and the mystical one.
In Godou Kusanagi's common sense, his grandfather's old friend should have been an elderly woman.
What stood before him instead was a mature, composed older sister.
The disconnect was obvious.
"At a time like this, what's there to be surprised about?" Lucrezia said lightly.
"Maintaining a youthful body is a privilege of witches who have perfected their magic power."
"Compared to that, shouldn't the existence of a Heretic God be far more shocking?"
Before Shirou Emiya had returned, Shuna had already explained everything to Lucrezia. She had plenty of time to prepare.
"Yeah..."
At the mention of Heretic Gods, Verethragna surfaced in Godou's mind again.
He smiled wryly.
After calming himself, he reached into his backpack and took out the stone slab, handing it over.
"In any case, this is what my grandfather asked me to deliver to you."
"Please accept it."
"The Prometheus Stone Slabs..."
Lucrezia accepted it gently.
Her fingers traced the childish carvings as she sighed.
"I found this long ago, deep in the Caucasus Mountains."
"It really brings back memories."
After a brief moment of nostalgia, she turned and handed the slab to Shirou Emiya.
It was clear she understood.
His sudden appearance in Cagliari had not been without reason.
Aside from the fact that the slab was useless to her now, even if it weren't, she would still have given it to him.
He was a Campione.
"Prometheus Stone Slabs, huh."
Shirou Emiya examined it calmly, sensing the Authority Lucrezia had once stolen from within.
Then he smiled.
"To be honest, my reason for coming to Cagliari this time wasn't this stone slab."
His gaze shifted.
"But you."
"Godou Kusanagi."
"Me?!"
Godou froze.
At the same time, Lucrezia, Erica, and Liliana all showed clear shock.
Their eyes turned toward Godou almost in unison, carefully examining him.
What exactly was so special about this young man?
In their eyes, he looked completely ordinary.
That only made their confusion deepen.
