Chapter 13 - Chapter 12

Everything was seriously messed up. First Harriett's saviour was the fcking pedo who still haunts us up until now. Next Josiah, Harriett's bastard ex was that pedo's husband.

"You got to deal with that temper of yours"

"Well, If I had seen that I would've punched him as well"

Haze rebutted as Annika threw me the ice bag I had asked from the nurses. I had thrown in exactly three punches before Josiah fought me back. Anna was mediating between us but all I could do was punch her asshole of a husband.

"They're made for each other"

I mutter under my breath when Annika was out of earshot. Annika didn't know about Anna and what she had done before was something even Haze couldn't remember because he was little so I kept quiet about it.

"Anyway nice going genius, you're lucky you weren't thrown out"

"Yeah but now we need to move Ate to a different hospital"

That was the consequence of me punching Josiah. Maybe it was for the better, getting out of here immediately. But I wasn't still satisfied, I wanted to mess up Josiah's face real bad. If Harriett had known about the two of them then…

Wait.

"Annika"

"What?"

"You said Josiah cheated right? Do you know who?"

I asked as my gaze went to Harriett then to Annika. I was expecting she'd know the answer but she just shrugged at me.

"He did but I don't know the name of the girl. Qian never told me."

My gaze moved to Haze but he just shook his head.

"Ate never really told me that part of the story. She was secretive about it and only said that Josiah had cheated."

Did he cheat with Anna? Was it her? If it was then why had Harriett picked this place? This wasn't a coincidence. Nothing was a coincidence when it came to Harriett. Everything she does has a reason. Even when she was destructive in the past, all of it had a reason.

"Ahhh Qian"

"Ate"

I jumped from the couch to Harriett when both Annika and Haze uttered her name.

"Harriett"

I called softly as her gaze roamed around the room, then to Haze, Annika and then to me.

"Slowly"

Annika coaxed as Harriett tried to sit up. Immediately Haze went to get some water and gave it to her. I sat on the other side of her bed and stared at her. She took it and without another word looked at me.

Her eyes scanned my face as she drank her water. For a moment, I regretted not following the nurses and cleaning up my wounds. But a part of me was glad that Harriett's eyes were on me.

Because that meant that she's alive.

"Ate how are you feeling?"

Haze asked. I thought she wouldn't answer him but she just shook her head. A clear sign that she wasn't ready to talk about it yet.

"Akira?"

Her hoarse voice came out rougher as she uttered her first words.

"Rico took her to the car since she can't be here"

Annika replied to which she just nodded before her gaze landed on me again. Slowly her hand reached up and touched my bruised face. Her touch was finally warm.

I let out a sigh as I kissed her palm that was tracing my bruises.

"Thank you for staying alive"

I mutter and instantly tears bubble up in her eyes. I scooped closer and hugged her tight. It wasn't a moment later when I felt Annika and Haze's embrace and Harriett's stifled sobs became a full blown cry.

She might not want to be alive anymore and she might have hated life more than anything but I can't lie. I am thankful that she is alive. I don't care who saved her anymore, or why she had chosen this place.

All I care about right now is that she's breathing and alive.

A few minutes later, both Annika and Haze gave us some alone time as they processed Harriett's papers. She'll be needing atleast 24 hours of observation period before she can be discharged.

There was no need for us to move hospitals anymore since she'll be discharged.

And I hadn't let her go. My arms still wrapped around her as she hid her face in my chest. I caressed her hair as I placed a kiss atop her head.

"You saw them"

She muttered, a statement not a question. It's funny how she knew exactly what kind of trouble I kept getting myself into.

"Was it on purpose? This place. The reason you chose it"

There was a moment of silence before she said.

"I want to haunt them forever."

And that was everything I needed to know as I hugged her tighter. She knew about them. Josiah did cheat with Anna and that made everything so much worse. Of all the people he could have cheated with, he had to choose the one person who scarred Harriett for life.

If Harriett had died, the two of them would have instantly known since this was a small town. That fact alone would have haunted them. But what if…

"What if they don't care?"

What if it didn't matter to the both of them? That would make her death meaningless.

"I don't care if my death has a meaning or not. I just really wanted to rest. It's just killing two birds with one stone"

If they hadn't cared, she would still have her rest. I let out another deep breath as I placed my head atop Harriet's.

"If you ask me, your life has plenty of meaning."

I felt her shift and when I looked down she was peeking at me. Her brown eyes were so alive and they're staring at me as if assessing what I had just said. And I loved it. I love how warm her body is right now and how she's looking at me straight.

Every indication that she's alive, I love it.

I smiled and placed a kiss on Harriett's cheeks. An action that caught her off guard.

"So please keep living beside me. Because my life won't have any meaning if you're not in it"
