Damien moved quietly through the corridor, following the direction he'd gotten from a soldier.
He had received a strange message in the morning from a soldier, a soldier who, unknown to many, had been the one secretly feeding Danika in her cell.
The guard had asked to see him and alone.
But Damien had been busy with matters of the pack the entire time during the day when he did. And only had time this evening to come meet him, and in his home according to the direction the guard who'd seen him gave.
The door to the guard's quarters stood slightly open.
Damien pushed it wider and stepped inside.
The room was dim, lit only by a small lamp in the corner. The air was thick and a metallic scent lingered.
Then he saw a motionless body sprawled across the floor.
The soldier lay on the floor, slumped beside his bed. His eyes were closed and lips slightly parted, and a pool of blood had dried beneath him. His blade was unsheathed by his side.
