Chapter 39 - As Winter Draws Near

Autumn was bleeding into something colder, a season that Giselle didn't look forward to at the very least. The rains had come harder last night, washing the last of autumn's colors from the palace gardens. What was left of the once–vibrant leaves now clung to the trees in dull shades of brown and yellow, heavy from the damp.

At least a week had passed since the Trial and things were beginning to go back to the usual lull of daily chores and duties. As the rains were becoming even more frequent, the majority of the palace rarely ventured outside anymore for brunches beside the Pavillion or frequent promenades through the surrounding parks. Thankfully, her parents had arrived days before the weather worsened and confirmed their choice to stay throughout the winter. She didn't mind, of course, since she terribly missed them even though they'd constantly written letters with the most recent being merely weeks ago.
