The mutant sovereign nation, Genosha.
Six years ago, after the X-Men, at the cost of Professor X's sacrifice and Jean Grey's disappearance, stopped Stryker from using Mastermind to manipulate the Professor into using Cerebro to wipe out all mutants worldwide, Magneto—who had maybe, possibly, cleaned up his act—disbanded the Brotherhood of Mutants (then Mystique reformed it). He then utilized his powers to lift sunk battleships buried in the deep sea and space debris floating in the cosmos, reshaping them to build a mutant island nation, Genosha, in the Atlantic Ocean.
In just six years, 80% of the world's mutants chose to immigrate to Genosha. The nation is now home to over sixteen million mutants, governed by Magneto.
His daughter, sixteen-year-old Wanda Maximoff, was currently sitting on a wicker chair in the back garden of the Head of State's residence, the "Magneto Palace," flipping through a book. A silver blur, trailing a gust of wind, suddenly swept by. The book in Wanda's hand vanished. She looked expressionlessly at her silver-haired brother standing a short distance away, holding an apple (likely just retrieved from the kitchen) in one hand and the book she was reading in the other.
"'The Social Contract.' Seriously, you're reading this at sixteen? You're only less than half an hour younger than me."
"Pietro~"
Wanda sighed, calling her brother's name in exasperation. The next second, the book was back in her hand, and a plate of sliced apples sat on the small side table.
"I am serving the future Empress of Genosha! Look at you studying so hard, Wanda. Dad is definitely going to choose you to inherit our kingdom."
"Genosha isn't a monarchy, Pietro..."
"Oh, really? Then why did he name the presidential residence the 'Magneto Palace,' erect a colossal statue of himself in the capital harbor, and name the main square after our mother?" Pietro swept out and returned in another whirlwind, holding a sketchbook and rapidly sketching a butterfly. "Don't be naive, Wanda. Our father wants to establish a mutant empire. It's not because I want to be a prince; it's just the truth."
Wanda sighed helplessly. Before she could say anything, Pietro placed his sketchbook in her hand and shrugged: "What do you think?"
"You really don't have any talent for drawing."
"Oh my god, you just stay home all the time, how would you know anything—about drawing talent? You should go out, meet new people, go dancing, attend parties. We're young people; let's do young people things."
Before Wanda could finish sighing, her brother had tucked a pink rose into her red hair. Pietro then completed a new sketch: "Perfect. I'll tell them all how beautiful my sister is."
Wanda had had enough. The next time Pietro dashed off, she raised her hand, and a dark-red energy blast slammed into his face, knocking him backward and making him violently plow a deep furrow in the garden with his face.
"Alright, why are you annoying me here instead of running off to play in Paris or New York, brother?"
"Actually, Dad sent me to find you. We have a guest coming to Genosha, and he wants someone to host them."
Pietro, who was practically buried head-first in the ground, pulled himself out and quickly brushed the dirt from his hair. Wanda considered this and countered, "The X-Men?"
"The X-Men? Sort of. An X-Man is bringing a group of students to investigate a case. But why would the X-Men be special guests? Everyone knows we'll have to deal with them sooner or later." Pietro shrugged and sped over to his sister. "It's an Avenger, a non-mutant, and a celebrity! Father wants to host him well, to show the world, or whoever, that he's not a terrorist, and that Genosha is warm and friendly, or something like that."
"I'll go see Father. Remember to clean up the garden."
Pietro stood up, looking at the deep furrow he had plowed in the garden, and scratched his head.
I didn't do this. Why do I have to clean it up?
The "celebrity" Peter was on a plane listening to Kitty recount the happenings at the Academy. He wasn't particularly concerned with the development of the Xavier Academy itself, as that was mutant domestic affairs, but Kitty was enthusiastically filling him in.
The Xavier Academy was currently divided into two main factions: one was led by the financially backed White Queen, Emma Frost, and her Hellfire Club. Emma already ran a smaller mutant academy in Massachusetts and had even formed a student team called the "Hellions" in imitation of the X-Men. The other faction consisted of the older X-Men and the original staff of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. They had established a student team called the "New Mutants," following the Professor's original ideology.
Kitty was a member of the New Mutants, having received her codename "Shadowcat." The other four members of the team were Sunspot (who could absorb solar energy to gain superhuman strength, flight, and energy projection), Cannonball (who could release energy through his skin), Dani Moonstar (a Native American girl with telepathic abilities), and Wolfsbane (who could transform herself into a werewolf or a wolf).
Kitty was temporarily serving as the leader because she genuinely had extensive combat experience—albeit only helping the Hulk escape a Symbiote and injecting Grendel with molecular stabilizers. However, the most important factor was her mindset; her attitude was surprisingly good, with little reluctance toward combat.
"Of course, not everyone wants to fight. Like, Logan won't let Jubilee join us—and the Hellions aren't as cool as us. Their leader is a telepath, but the others are what, a rock guy, one who can turn into mercury, one who can turn into a sandstorm, and one who can make anything he touches decay."
"It's not very nice to talk about your classmates like that, Kitty."
Logan (Wolverine), who was piloting the plane—or more accurately, sitting in the pilot seat watching the autopilot—spoke up quietly. Ever since he heard from Peter that Weapon X might have created a clone daughter of his, he had been quite distracted, only just now snapping out of it. Kitty reluctantly stuck out her tongue and returned to her seat to chat with her teammates.
However, their time for chatting was running short.
"Genosha is coming up fast. Don't forget what I told you about Magneto. Even if he's pretending to be a good guy now, his nature won't change. Don't piss the old man off."
In the distance on the horizon, a seemingly prosperous island gradually came into view.
