"Max Dillon is a mutant?"
"That's why you couldn't find any information, Peter. The MRD locks down its files and refuses to list any mutants they capture in their records."
Janet's words offered no comfort to Peter. He never would have imagined that Electro in this universe was actually a mutant! And one who had already been captured by the MRD! This contradicted every piece of known information.
The multiversal intelligence network was utterly useless.
"His power is to absorb, store, and release electrical energy, and when his body stores enough energy, he enhances his physical attributes, especially speed," Hank analyzed the temporary MRD file they received. "But clearly, his storage capacity has a limit. He previously tried to absorb energy from a power plant and overloaded, knocking himself unconscious."
"If he can knock himself out," Captain America asked, puzzled, "why would he go to a power plant?"
"For the thrill. For this guy, absorbing electricity is like getting a fix. Low voltage isn't satisfying enough, but too high and he hurts himself. He's looking for something that hits the spot. Like modified electric eels."
Tony said casually, but Peter was thinking more deeply. Perhaps out of paranoia, he always felt that anything related to the Super Soldier Project required careful consideration.
"The MRD claims he was assisted in breaking out of jail by a radical mutant organization. While many mutant groups would do that, finding his way to Osborn Tech on the very night of his escape is too unreasonable," Peter stated the inconsistency, then offered his hypothesis: "During their inventory, Osborn Tech found a missing electric eel, meaning Max took it. These eels are test subjects for the Savage Force Project, intended to create Super Soldiers."
If such an electric eel was taken, was it really just for him to absorb its electricity?
"You're suggesting Max wasn't broken out of jail but was recruited by the Pentagon's Super Soldier Project. If he can use those eels to enhance his abilities and reprogram his genes, he might be able to increase his electrical storage limit, thereby solving the problem of overloading when absorbing high voltage..."
Hank followed Peter's "everything is about the Super Soldier Project" train of thought, then posed a critical and unavoidable problem: "But the reports indicate these experiments have severe side effects, and they can't even guarantee a positive outcome. Plus, they inevitably introduce the eel's genes. Current technology makes solving that problem virtually impossible."
That's right, they still can't precisely cut genetic fragments. If only they could do it precisely...
Peter suddenly froze.
Mutants, Super Soldier Project, gene cutting, precise harvesting...
Especially mutants...
"The Gene-Splicer."
Everyone looked at Peter. After a moment of thought, Peter confirmed his idea: "Mister Sinister's Gene-Splicer can achieve perfect gene cutting. It's high-precision, cutting-edge technology that even he couldn't replicate again."
The Gene-Splicer was created by Mister Sinister using decades of contacts and wealth before his first death. It was now practically irreplaceable because the device was simply too expensive, and only Sinister knew how to make it.
There is now only one Gene-Splicer left in the world, located in Genosha.
"And Max Dillon is a mutant, which means he could enter Genosha unconditionally."
Captain America looked at them. While it was only speculation, if Peter's deduction was correct, Max intended to use the Gene-Splicer to enhance his abilities and power. But a normal engineer like him couldn't do this alone; he would need a scientist who understood the field.
And when it came to motive and ability, the inventor of the Gene-Splicer, Mister Sinister, was the prime candidate.
The two sides likely struck a deal, deciding to go to Genosha to get their hands on that Gene-Splicer.
This led to a new problem. Captain America sighed, resting his chin on his hand. "But Genosha, and Magneto in particular, don't welcome outsiders. It's fine if one or two people go in, but it's highly unlikely that the entire Avengers team could enter."
The Avengers finally reached a conclusion.
"So this matter must be entrusted to the X-Men."
"We can't leave it entirely to the X-Men. After all, the Avengers have been tracking this. We need one Avenger to go along to ensure timely communication and information updates," Tony immediately added, further specifying the requirements for this person:
"They should preferably have ties with the X-Men, pose a low enough threat that Magneto won't be overly wary, have the ability to defend themselves, and ideally have experience communicating with Magneto."
As soon as the words were spoken, everyone looked at Peter. Peter was silent for a moment before nodding in cheerful agreement.
"This is a perfect excuse to hide from Gwen and Cindy. You guys have no idea how awkward the last two days have been."
"Spider-Man! Over here!"
When Peter arrived at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, the Blackbird jet was already parked. To Peter's surprise, the mission team was almost entirely composed of newcomers.
He saw Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) and several other new mutants boarding the plane. The oddest thing was that their captain was Wolverine (Logan).
Sending Wolverine to Magneto's territory—Peter wasn't sure if Cyclops did that intentionally or simply didn't think it through. Regardless, he boarded the plane.
Kitty was the happiest. Since they had fought side-by-side before, she immediately started chatting with Peter as soon as he got on. "Cyclops said it's perfect. We need to go out and test ourselves, and Magneto's place is quite safe, so we don't need to worry about enemies."
Magneto's place is safe. That statement was so absurd Peter didn't know where to begin to mock it. Perhaps that was why Logan was leading the team? Because he posed no threat to Magneto?
Speaking of Logan...
"I'm happy too, Kitty. This is my first time going to a place full of mutants. Oh, right, I have something I need to talk to Logan about."
Peter walked over to the co-pilot's seat and spoke to Logan.
"I went to the multiverse earlier and met your children, Logan."
Peter hesitated but decided to tell Logan about X-23 (Laura Kinney). Logan, who was piloting the jet, heard one word from Peter and stopped.
"Child...ren? There's more than just Daken?"
"There's a girl named Laura Kinney. She's most likely being trained as a killing weapon right now."
Logan sighed, lost in thought.
