The entire pack buzzed with whispers about his condition. His father had tried to silence the rumors, but Kolton allowed them to spread unchecked. Deep down, he harbored the desperate hope that Kimi would hear the news and come running back to him.
Yet perhaps those very rumors about his critical state were what kept her away. Maybe she refused to tie herself to a man dancing on death's doorstep.
Or worse, maybe she had never felt even a flicker of love for him, and now she was showing him a cruelty he never imagined possible.
"Alpha?"
The guard's voice cut through Kolton's dark thoughts as he stared at the sleek sports car before him. The memories threatened to drag him under their weight.
"Alpha, your father requests your presence at dinner. Everyone is waiting for you."
Kolton dropped the half-smoked cigarette and crushed it beneath his boot. His eyes remained cold as he addressed the guard.
"Close the garage door."
