"Vlad!" Jacob shouted, causing Vlad to frown at his words. "We need to talk!"
Vlad turned his head behind him, then stared at Alice, who was now seated on the sofa, looking directly at him. She raised her legs to her chest, slightly covering her face, as her arms held them in place.
She said nothing, but only locked her eyes with his. And there was a shimmer of lust hinted in their spark.
"Give me a second," he said, turning his eyes to Jacob, opening the window, and jumping out of its frame.
He walked near the incomplete hound of a shifter, eyes clearly confused by what he was saying.
"You know doors exist, right… You could have knocked?" Vlad asked, wondering why Jacob would come looking for him while approaching from the forest. "I would have opened…"
"Stop the bullshit, I know what you are!" Jacob said as the wind dried his shirt. "I need you to stay away from Leah!"
"What?" Vlad raised a brow. "Who's Leah?"
The hound paused for a second too long, taken aback by Vlad's words.
"The one you imprinted!" Jacob shouted.
"Hey, hey, hey, man," Vlad moved back, arms raised in surrender as he noticed Jacob's approaching figure. "I didn't do 'shit'," he said, moving backward. "And besides, she imprinted on me… I don't even remember her."
Jacob stopped, which caused Vlad to do the same.
Vlad could hear Jacob's heart fuming with unnatural beats. The heat coming out of his body itself screamed at war, but he stood patient.
He sighed, slightly giggling.
"What did you say you want from me… again?" he asked, truly unaware of where Jacob was going with it.
"Stay away from Leah," Jacob said, his voice now changed from a shout to a simple command.
Vlad sighed in giggling disbelief, truly taken aback by the spectacle.
"Bro," he said, arms still raised. "I don't even know her."
Jacob frowned, and Vlad noticed.
"I promise, man." He raised his pinkie. "I don't even remember her face. And yes, in the name of all that is holy, I will stay away from your girl, okay."
Jacob hesitated for a second, clearly not expecting that it would be that easy.
"She's not my girl," he said, finally breathing out. "She is my sister."
Then he turned his eyes to the building, the same one Vlad called home.
His gaze locked onto a direction, specifically the window.
Where Alice, in her almost gothic state, peeked outside, staring at them, clearly listening to their conversation.
Even if she stood far away, in the cover of the walls, she could clearly see Jacob frown in anger when his eyes met with hers.
"And do me a favor," Jacob said, visibly frustrating the monster who stood before him. "Why don't you stay away from Bella while you are at it?" He smiled, still staring at Alice while finishing the sentence.
"You are taking it too far, man," Vlad said, shaking his head. "It's really getting late." He faked a smile, frustration lurking on his lips. "You should go."
Jacob hesitated, but he could clearly feel the sudden change in the space. How the atmosphere had gotten colder, and the way the trees were blowing away instead of toward the direction of the wind.
He had seen it from shifters, the way anger would turn them into beasts, so he had to learn from a young age to resist making such people angry, because for 'them', great power always came with the loss of serenity.
So he could feel the anger fuming through Vlad, he could feel the hint that he had pressed the wrong buttons.
He backed away, preparing to leave.
Then he turned back, still feeling Vlad's lingering stare.
"Your connections and what you are will put her in danger," he said, walking away slowly, "and if anything happens, I'll…" He hesitated, heart skipping what seemed to be a beat.
Then he left, drifting to the trees and fading into the darkness.
Vlad still stared straight, right where Jacob once stood.
He shook his head, brushing the top of his hair with his fingertips.
Then, they turned back, approaching home.
He did not use the window to enter this time. He just walked to the door, opened it, and shut it.
Alice couldn't say anything. She could automatically feel that all thoughts of intimacy had faded from Vlad's mind.
He sat down, then she leaned toward him, resting her head on his shoulder.
Vlad leaned back, turning his gaze to the ceiling.
Alice kissed his neck, moved upward to his face, until finally her kisses reached his lips.
He didn't resist, he didn't ponder, he just kissed back.
Feeling her upper lip embrace his lower. It felt too cozy.
And then she pulled back and rested her head on his chest.
He breathed out, heart still beating.
Then drifted to sleep, his mind completely forgetting that the very next day would be all drained by Monday classes.
Completely forgetting the root of all his sustenance.
Or, problems that were pending.
