~~~ [START]
"Did they really say that?" Alice asked, her eyes now turned to Edward, who was seated on the couch. "How many days did they give us?"
Her question brought discomfort to those seated around.
"They didn't specify," Carlisle shot in, "but they are growing impatient."
Then Alice, as though sensing the intention, lowered her head.
Esme walked to her, sat down, and then hugged her from the side. Alice smiled softly as Esme did this.
"Vlad agreed," Rosalie finally spoke out, causing both Carlisle and Edward to lift their heads in shock. "But… he didn't say when."
Then silence. No one spoke.
"Can you convince him?" Carlisle didn't hesitate. "Can you make him consider meeting us sooner?" Then Esme, as though sensing his uneasiness, walked toward him, placed her hand on his shoulder, and then shook her head.
"I'll try," Alice replied. Esme only faintly smiled as she heard her speak.
"You don't have to do it," she said, perhaps feeling a touch of guilt.
"He knows about the bond," Edward, who had mostly been silent, said, which caused Carlisle to once again raise a brow in confusion.
Yet no one questioned it, and Carlisle was quick to notice.
He turned his head to Esme.
"Alice told us yesterday," she said. He shook his head at her words.
"How?" Edward didn't stop. "Vampire?"
Alice shot her eyes towards him in an instant. Not only she but everyone gathered there.
"Edward, stop," she said, frowning.
He lifted his eyes from her gaze, then noticed the uncomfortable glances that were watching him.
"Sorry," he said, leaning back on the couch he was seated on. Sighed loudly and turned his gaze to the ground.
Carlisle turned his eyes back to Alice, clearly awaiting an explanation.
She smiled awkwardly, nodded, and began to speak.
Perhaps what she should have spoken long ago.
Time drained, and the sun had fallen.
In the darkness, unbothered by its blind.
Eight inhuman figures gathered in a sitting room, clearly bothered by what the short ghoul of a pixie had just announced.
"How big was he?" Emmett was the first to ask, his eyes piercing directly at Alice.
"About 16 feet," she said, and his eyes visibly widened. Fear lingered deep within his expression.
He turned his head around the room, trying to analyse how everyone was reacting, and just as he expected, he could see hints of disbelief showing in their very eyes.
"You know about this?" he asked Carlisle, noting his unshaken expression.
"Not entirely," he said, raising his hand and brushing his chin, "but it isn't far from my predictions."
They all instantly turned to him, but instead of answering, he turned to Alice, walked towards her, and placed both hands on her shoulders.
"Can you try?" he asked, eyes clearly curious, not forcing, not questioning, but asking.
She laughed slightly as he said this.
"He will come," she assured. And uneasiness hit them all.
Was she talking with certainty? They asked themselves.
Or was it the illusion of absolute trust?
One made of something they had all experienced.
Bondage of souls. Of bodies undead. Ghoul.
_______
The motorbike drifted towards a gas station.
Its speed, too sudden for the common eye. Its sound deafening to the deaf.
It was Vlad, and he had decided to take a drive, since life was proving too boring. He felt no need to worry about crashing. With his enhanced vision and reaction time, that outcome would be all in all impossible, even if he tried.
Slowing down, Vlad parked his bike next to the fuel tank and walked towards the building.
Time had struck 7 pm, which meant the streets were relatively empty. Forks was a place commonly surrounded by woods, so if someone didn't have a car, wandering at night would be 'unwise'.
Entering through the gas station's door, Vlad moved to the very back.
A smirk grew on his lips when his eyes drifted to the variety of foods that obstructed his sight.
Well, 'foods' would be an understatement since it was nothing of such prestige.
Ice cream, snacks, and all the sugar rush visible enough to kill an elephant were all stacked right next to his figure—right in front of him.
He was not stupid nor immature. So the sight didn't faze him.
Instead of what teens his age would take, he only grabbed one of each option. Nothing outrageous, just 18 packs of snacks and two buckets of cookies. Nothing a vampire like himself couldn't handle.
Then, before he could run to the counter to ask for a bucket,
His nose started itching, and a very familiar scent flooded him with its smell.
A dog, or rather, one he didn't find unpleasant.
So, he turned his head in an attempt to understand what was happening.
Then he saw it, standing there staring straight at him. Or he saw her.
Immediately, Vlad understood what was happening. Not because Alucard had informed him of his sudden situation.
But because he had experienced it before, with Alice.
The sudden change in atmosphere. The shiver in his heart. A connection.
Was it a coincidence?
Or was he truly cursed?
He didn't know.
But the only thing he could process, the only thing he understood from that very moment was one word. A tainted word that came with a sentence he had grown too accustomed to using.
"Fuck," he said, "fuck me."
