"A monkey?" a fat, middle-aged teacher exclaimed loudly. "A monkey?" he asked again, disbelief clearly echoing in his expression.

"Ahhhh?" The student he was speaking to didn't know how to respond.

"And why is it fat?" the teacher asked. "Why is it wearing a suit?" he continued. "Are you mocking me?"

And Vlad, who was seated in the far back watching the whole exchange happen, couldn't help but giggle—because the student, the one being interrogated, was none other than John.

And Alice, who was seated beside Vlad, stood up swiftly. She walked toward the art teacher and whispered something in his ear. He frowned.

She walked back smiling and returned to her seat.

The teacher took one last look at John—the teen he had been shouting at. "You are lucky, Bones," he mocked, which caused the entire class to giggle—John included.

He frowned at him again, then left the class.

Vlad turned his head, his eyes fixed on Alice, whose expression now housed a wide smile.

"You should really stop doing that," he said.

"Huh?" She acted confused by his remark.

So, Vlad turned his head again, this time his eyes staring at John, whose cheeks had completely turned red, and his body was visibly shivering.

"It might give him the wrong impression," he said.

And John, as if right on cue, turned his head to Alice, smiled, and waved at her.

Alice waved back, and his heat melted immediately.

Vlad just shook his head, which only made her laugh.

"What?" she leaned closer to him. "Are you jealous?"

Vlad raised an eyebrow. Turning his eyes back to John—who, noticing he was being looked at, turned back to Vlad and frowned in utmost disgust.

"No," he murmured. "I'm just avoiding making enemies."

And she laughed at his words, which caused him to do the same.

"Okay, monkeys!" the teacher walked in. "Inspection is cancelled," he said. "We are doing something new."

He walked straight to John, took his painting, and then ripped it in an instant. John felt like crying, but the man maintained eye contact, so the only feeling he could experience was one he wished to forget—intimacy. It felt weirdly too sexual for his liking.

The teacher shook his head and shifted his eyes, turned to the board, and wrote the word *group*. He turned his face back to the class, and as expected, they already had an idea of what he meant.

"Two inspections," he said. "That's all you get." He turned his head to Vlad. "If you had enlisted in this school a day later, I would have given you extra benefits." He turned his head back to everyone. "But hard luck—you are cooked."

The class laughed at his words.

"You will form groups of three," he said. "You have four days left. Enough time to come up with something worth marking." He clapped his hands together. "I'll give you two minutes to group up…"

Before he could even finish, most had already risen up. And the noise had already started. So he sighed in surrender—not because he was tired, but because it was the only thing he could do. He moved and sat down in his seat, turned his eyes to the clock, and waited for silence.

"So?" Alice said, turning to Vlad.

"So?" He blushed, noticing her smiling expression.

Than immediately, both their heads turned to the front, where they saw John—the boy who had sacrificed his seat for Alice—approaching in a sprint.

"Shi…" Vlad didn't even get a chance to swear, as a fat, cute teen obstructed his vision.

"Hey, Vlad." She knew his name. Her cheeks were bright red with blush. "Am… do you want to…"

"He's already with me," Alice shot in, her face faking a smile.

And the fat girl instantly understood the double meaning of her words. She panicked slightly.

"Hehe…" The fat girl backed away. "Sorry." Then she left.

Vlad turned his head. "Jealous?" he asked, smiling.

Alice only pouted, then turned her face to the side—an effort to hide the smile surfacing from her lips.

But they had mindlessly forgotten John, who had now arrived.

"Alice!" he said, breathing loudly. "I… I… join. Team."

Alice turned her head to Vlad, believing he would do what she did. But he only giggled, shaking his head, then turned it to the board—distancing himself from the plea.

She couldn't refuse him. He had given her too much. So…

"Sure…" She regretted her decision but couldn't help but feel somewhat glad when she saw John's cheerful expression. He ran back to his seat to fix his equipment and ready his move.

She turned back to Vlad, narrowed her eyes, and noted his giggles. She sighed, but her breath carried something foreign when she did so. It wasn't annoying. It wasn't a relief.

It was peace… something unknown, even for her.

_____

Near a mansion surrounded by nothing but woods, three cars approached.

A Jeep, a Porsche, and a black Volvo. They all neared its driveway at absurd speeds.

And before the cars could even halt, their passengers dismounted and sprinted to the mansion, leaving behind those who were driving.

They didn't even knock. They just bolted through.

And inside, as if expecting it, Edward braced for impact.

Thud!

Edythe hugged his body with inhuman strength.

Both Esme and Carlisle laughed when they saw this.

Edythe giggled. "So…" she said, moving backward. "How did it go?"

And Edward laughed when he heard her.

"How did you even know? We weren't even talking."

She shrugged her shoulders.

"You underestimate my hearing," she tried to convince.

"Alice saw you in her visions," Roselle shot in, walking through the door and turning to Edward with a smile.

"Back," he heard a voice. Then he dashed out of the way before the two bolting bloodsuckers collided with him.

DOO!

He laughed as they slipped on each other's footing.

And at the end of it, Emmett's large body was lying on top of Jesper's. He giggled, but Jesper didn't share the same fate.

"You are heavy," Jesper tried to push him to the side, but Emmett's body seemed unmovable.

Until Roselle dashed forward and smacked him on the head.

"Ouch," he reacted to the pain, quickly standing and then helping Jesper up.

Alice was the last to walk in. She just smiled when she noticed the atmosphere.

The family was finally together. But she knew deep down inside that it was far from complete.

Was it the truth?

Or the yearning for what she saw in dreams?

Dreams that did not emerge from sleep, but from the curse of ability.

Dreams she saw for centuries.

Dreams of he she yearned for, he she loved.

Demon through inheritance. Through blood.

Fate unending.

The devil.
