She hadn't even typed anything yet. Just stared at the blinking cursor like it might write something for her. Something flirty, maybe. Or casual. Or safe.
But none of it was.
Because nothing about Lux Vaelthorn was safe.
Not the way he looked at her like she was his favorite indulgence. Not the way he moved—like gravity was something he ignored for fun. And definitely not the way he just appeared in her life without warning. Like tonight.
Her heart skipped, then raced. Her breath caught just slightly as her brain caught up to what her eyes were seeing.
Lux stood on her balcony. Dark clothes sharp against the pale stone, his presence stretching larger than the shadows around him. One foot tilted forward like he was halfway into a kiss or a war.
He tilted his head, red eyes flickering with amusement. "Good evening, my love," he said in that dry, velvet voice of his. "Did you miss me?"
Naomi blinked. "Lux…? How do you—"
He didn't let her finish.
