It was only mere days ago that leaves and twigs would've been crunching underfoot, instead it was the shifting of ash. These firefighters had seen the worst nature could offer, lost friends and family, homes and towns, all lost to the flame. These fires were straight out of a horror movie, no escape with endless heat, slowly being roasted.
The fighters could only watch the embers spill into the sky blocking out the stars above, this night would be their last. The ash filled what would become their shallow graves, as they lay drenched in sweat the ash almost seemed to whisper as the crackling flames surrounded them.
